Stock, from the factory - they would likely beat out any other truck at that competition before mods. Larger tires and added weight could definitely go a long way. As much as people like internal combustion engines, electric easily beats them in every way except range. We're watching a dying breed of motorsports, and that's okay because the future looks interesting.

Why not? Decent alternator, pure sine power inverter. Maybe a couple auxiliary batteries so you don't have to run the truck non stop. Without running extension cords to every appliance anyway.

@@caddyguy5369 I think the Ford power station that charges the BEV truck can also work in reverse to power the home with same plug? You just have to get the home power station installed and have a switch that turns off grid power when the BEV truck is supplying power to the home. No cords other than the one to the truck. If you have solar, you can power your home and truck at the same time. Then you can use/store the extra power in your truck's battery if the weather is bad or at night.

To drain a 130kwh battery pack at 600kw takes 13 minutes. My guess is that it's probably only able to put 200-300 horsepower to the ground before the wheels start slipping. Why did they use a solid hitch hookup for the rivian and a swivel hitch hookup for the lightning? More weight on the rear end for the rivian means more traction off the line.

The lack of wheel spin at the end makes me think that the computers are pulling power from the motors in an attempt to maintain traction. But just like with gas powered traction control systems, they interfere with user input and can prevent the power train from really doing what it should.

My thoughts exactly. Would be very interested to see back to back pulls with traction control on and traction control off. Also I'm not sure if these two trucks have locking differentials, but the Hummer does. That could help as well.

You need proper tires, a bunch of weight in the bed and on front and turn off any traction control and put in off road mode.

It's funny how many are against EVs. There's no reason for them not to offered to the public, there are some advantages. The torque output and power curve are completely different from a gas vehicle. The love of gas vehicles is partly the beauty of a machine doing impressive things. EVs are machines that can do some impressive things.

Love the hate for the Rivian! Feed me! Just think what my Rivian could do with some seriously knobby tires! Fun fact: supposedly, you can put the Rivian in 4WD-sand-dune mode and do a 4 wheel burn out on pavement. That's how much torque. :) GASP That mode I don't think existed back when this video was made. I wonder if it would make any difference now?

I believe the hitch needed to be setup a bit better on the Rivien so that it doesn’t squat on the rear axle which would tend to limit the power that could be put down on the front axle,

A couple robotic engineers i work with bought new rivian trucks. Got a ride in one. Peppy and torquey as hell. Very cool, but way way out of my price range. My bro bought a new Ford maverick ecoboost for $24k out the door. Its a great little truck. Thats more what I can afford, and sport mode in that thing hauls ass

To produce huge amounts of power for short periods of time, is right in the "wheelhouse" of electric trucks. They're perfectly suited to this. Rather than comparing trucks, I think this was more of a contest between TIRES! If you could add ballast to the Ford, and make it as heavy a s the Rivian, I'll bet the results would be more similar. In both cases, the trucks stopped because of traction, NOT lack of torque. It might be interesting to try fitting the trucks with tires more similar to the successful trucks in this class.

They may have plenty of power but as soon as you pull a trailer on the road with an electric truck they run out of battery way more quickly than a gas or diesel. Then you need a lot more coal to charge them back up again.

There is no denying the Rivian won, but I am way more impressed with the Ford. The fact that ford can come close in this event when you consider 2 less motors, 255 less HP, 133 less torque, street tires instead of the off-road rivian tires, 1,000 lbs. less towing capability and only lost by 15 ft. To me is impressive as hell.

Nice Video!!!!! But now I want to see the Tesla Cybertruck with its 1020 HP, 1200 pounds of torque, and 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, but we have to wait until the mid to end of 2023!!!!! But the video show the future of trucks, specially when these two trucks came plain from their respective companies with no modifications at all, and using unmatched tires, compared to other ICE trucks that were heavily modified either in engines, or tires, or both!!!!! But again, a very nice video!!!!!!!!
