this is why i love my Katadyn-Filter; you pump by hand-power, very simple, just wash it back once in a while, and don't put the probe for the dirtwater into the mud (but let it float in somewhat clear water) and it will work almost forever. it's small, it's light, great storage-possibilities, what more does one want...?

The simpler any system is the more reliable it is. Complex, battery operated systems seem convenient but open the opportunity for critical failure. This is why I would only use a filter like this for controlled scenarios like a camping trip.

I think it would be nice for family camping, four wheel driving etc. Obviously you would always have a back up. It could also be handy when you get a boil water advice because of complications with the city water plant.

I recently had a boil alert for one week. Fortunately, I already have countertop gravity filter. Without that filter, this would be an option. For long-term use, I would put a Sawyer on the end of the line, and use BKLES just as a motor.

This filter is a joke ... the grayl geopress filters water much faster , with zero batteries ..

Hi. Does this also filter parasites and bacteria out of the water?

@@RickLionello It has an activated charcoal filter, so it should filter out the parasites and bacteria.

Nice concept but if it's unusable without power, then it's a liability. Something happens with its battery or pump and you are in big trouble.

I agree. I definitely would not use this in any survival kit. Only in a camping bag.
