Back in late 2022, Electrifying.com managed to get an exclusive first drive of a concept car called the Citroen Oli. We loved it - and so did you. It’s the most watched video on the channel! At the time, were promised that all future Citroens would take their inspiration from that bold show car… So, has Citroen kept that promise with its latest new car - the Citroen e-C3 Aircross?
So, where does the Aircross fit in? Well, it’s a bit bigger than the dinky e-C3 hatchback, and is intended to offer a more practical, family-focussed electric SUV offering while still keeping things compact and affordable - hence a starting price of £25,000 and a range of up to 250 miles. For that money, we think it could be a big hit.
We haven’t driven it just yet, but you can find out everything there is to know about the Aircross, right here. Check out Nicola’s video of the Citroen e-C3, too, as it shares a platform, motors and a lot of its styling with this new, e-C3 Aircross.
The Citroen e-C3 Aircross uses the same basic bits as the e-C3, and also the Vauxhall Frontera. and that means a new 113bhp electric motor powering the front wheels along with a 44kWh or 54kWh battery pack, giving between 186 and 250 miles of official range.
The smaller battery is a LFP - or Lithium Ferro Phosphate - pack which is more bulky than the usual lithium-ion NMC batteries used in a lot of electric cars, but it’s also cheaper to make and should be more resistant to degradation too.
Both of the e-C3 Aircross’s batteries have 100kW DC fast charging capability, which means the battery can get from 20 to 80 percent capacity in 26 minutes on a suitable rapid charger. Standard AC recharging can be done at up to 11kW, or plug into a normal 7kW home wallbox and the battery will be full in 7- or 9 hours depending on which battery you’ve got.
Now, we need to talk about that motor, because 113bhp doesn’t sound like a lot. But, it's more power than was offered in the original Nissan Leaf and about the same as a 1.4-litre petrol engine, so should be adequate, if not exciting. I like a bit of performance, but I actually admire that Citroen realises that we don’t all need 600bhp in a family SUV.
Join Nicki as she checks out the Citroen e-C3 Aircross for the first time. Has Citroen built a winner? Let us know in the comments below.

Why do reviewers have a preoccupation with "cheap plastic" ? It's a budget car, what do you expect? I like hard plastic, stands up well to grandchildren and easy to clean. Of much more importance and interest would be warranty period, efficiency (miles per kw/hr), service interval period and probable insurance group. Less scratchy plastic please and more informative reviews please.

Exactly! Getting tired of these so-called car reviewers! To make it affordable & lightweight they need plastics or they could use carbon fibre & squishy materials & make it expensive & even more heavy! No common car buyers go out of their way to touch the extreme ends of the dashboard or under the glove box to scratch their nails. Been driving for 14 years now, never did that stupidity, what matters is the immediate/regular touch points are okay not. Plus people want reliability & if it's maintenance is affordable or is of long overhaul one.

100%. I'm getting a bit tired of reviews that talk about hard, scratchy plastics that are hardly touched - as long as the touch points you do use feel decent, the hard-wearing nature of the rest is fine and better suited to a family car. When was the last time you jumped into a car and rattled your nails on the dashboard? Cheaper cars - and EVs - come with such compromises. We can't have it both ways.

This car kinda highlights the question: why are EVs so expensive? It's not the batteries (any more) or the motor as far as I understand it. At home we got a ´23 Renault Clio and a ´23 Polestar 2, and when i get in the Clio, the first thing that comes to my mind, is not the cheaper materials compared to the Polestar. I never touch the interior of my cars, so when the steering wheel feels nice and seats are comfortable, its basically all i need. This car is not for me, but i think it is great that there are coming EV´s that people can afford. Also, whats with the obsession over storage and plugs? I really dont get it, are you bringing all your stuff in the car? I know im a simple man, but i have my phone and me keys with me, nothing else. Going to work i have a small backpack with me, but that goes into the trunk anyway. Phone goes to wireless charge pad, so why you need so many plugs? I´ve never used any of them in my Polestar 2.

Now this is more like it Citroen! I’ve seen the reviews of the e-C3 and for me it was a little too small and needs a bit more range (we already have a Stellantis EV and you can take 20% off claimed WLTP range in real life). If Citroën can get a 250 mile WLTP version out there for under £30k fully specced up, then this goes to the top of my list for our next family car. Don’t need neck-breaking 0-60, just a comfortable, roomy EV with a reasonable range for a reasonable price.

A useful preview, thank you. A practical car for the money at £25k a bit like the old 2CVs. We need more of this sort of thing. I like what they have done with the driver display instead of a head up, and they could lose the ten inch infotainment screen if they needed to save more money. Instead of infotainment how about a simple iPhone dock? I do not like the lack of power but then I never bought a 2CV. PS. Where is Kilowatt half hour?

Why is the projected display a cost saving? How’s it saving money? That needs explaining. The central mounted screen that you say “looks quite nice” actually looks like an after thought added to the dash, like so many today. And even at £25k it is a ‘budget’ car so you have to expect it being a bit cheaper in places so why mention the plastics? Journalists always scratch plastics in almost every car and declare them cheap, but nobody ever touches those plastics anyway. This is a great car that is helping bring the price of mainstream family cars down; it’s great that it doesn’t try to beat everything off the line, it’s honest, and it looks a bit rugged which, for the SUV crowd, makes it cool. But I still don’t understand how a projected dash has saved money.

People in comments complaining that she shows lower aspects. That’s the point of review. You show all good AND BAD. It’s up to viewer to decide if they can handle the lower aspects in their use case. When watching I want to see all cost cutting choices to know if it’s worth considering. The car is cheap, yes, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it has lower quality elements. You make a good point. On retirement I went from a BMW 5 series (company car in UK) to a Toyota Avensis estate...The former had a wonderful interior but was not that reliable and cost a fortune to maintain...The latter was totally reliable, rattle free at 130,000 miles and was put through 5 years of being used like a builders van while we moved to France and renovated an old stone house. For the past 5 years we've been driving a Kia e-Niro, totally reliable and a lot cheaper to run than any ICE car but with that same practical Toyota-esque interior. In my experience so called 'premium' brands are a waste of money.

Sounds okayish for the price. I think it sounds more the price because of the(assuming) larger profile. But I am expecting 25000 euros max for the 52 kwh model, otherwise I think th eC3 cross is still too expensive for the price for what you get. The basic Citroën luxury is there, but I am missing more EV centric details, that makes me think this first gen eC3 is not a value proposition for an "affordable" vehicle. In the first glance I am missing more technical specs of EV value such as battery warranty, one pedal driving support, a good non ping pongblane assist, adaptive cruise control and preferably 3 kw V2G support. Other things I was missing in this review is if the front passenger seat has a glove box or not. A general trend I see luttle in the EV space is the adaptability of the rear seats. I think I am missing a more involved design of making the rear seat more functional. I think most people, including myself, use the car for one person transport and cargo most of the time. For me and many others it is often making the choice between more passenger space vs more cargo space. It would be nice to see a better trend in more adaptive rear seat benches that could be moved on rails or collapse like origami to either accomodate for more comfortable passenger space and seating at the cost of less boot space or vice versa with a flush boot space. I think this feature would instantly imcrease the functional value of an EV in any segment of EV. I think if these featires were also standard with the eC3 and cross version it would be worth the current msrp price.

It took an entire 80% of the video before anything useful was actually said about the car, such as battery information, which is what most of us EV buyers are interested in. Far more than whether the dashboard is like your yoga pants... This channel seems to be selling to a particular market rather than being helpful journalism, unfortunately.

I have never seen such a ill informed psuedo auto expert. You gotta review the car according to its price tag.

Stellantis are killing any brand originality l. It’s Agonisingly dull. This is just a rebagged Vauxhall Frontera / Fiat Panda grand / Citroen C3, it’s just so boring I couldn’t be bothered to even watch. 🥱
