From my perspective, punk and thereafter were a severe reaction to the profound degradation of music that was Disco. Simply escaping from the dull repeating single thud beat of Disco was a revolution. It could not have been more wonderful to those of us appalled by what corporations had done to music, the nausea induction of their 'Power Pop' garbage. - - We require another music revolution right now, a revival or ART over financial gaming.
