I have been using an Anycubic Wash and Cure for a while, I had read online that you could use simple green to clean resin prints. Now while it did work ok... the simple green completely deteriorated the magnet on the fan assembly at the bottom of the wash tub. So now I will only use IPA. That said, Wash and Cures make life so much easier

Wow, that’s good to know because I was considering it at one point.

I am glad you are still into 3d printing. Resin is messy to work with. Couple of tips for you which have learned through experience. Use lunch trays to keep the mess contained. Use denatured alcohol as it cleans way better. I get the denatured alcohol in 5 gallon drums/buckets from a local hardware store for a reasonable price.

Great review! I bought a Saturn 3 Ultra bundled with the Mercury XS kit that should arrive in a few days and I wanted to see what to expect. That trick of using the UV pen light and wet resin to fuse broken parts back together is brilliant! I wonder could that trick also be used like Bondo to fill in the gaps between two connecting pieces and blend them together by filling in the seam?

I have the smaller Elegoo cure station which has worked well but am thinking of going to this larger one so thanks for this review of the XS bundle. One suggestion, consider using eye protection when working with the alcohol. I've been an eye doc for many yrs and I've seen my share of painful chemical splashes. It's just something most people tend to not think about or overlook. Thanks again. Happy printing

this has been very helpful thank you, how often do you change the alcohol for printing models
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching 🙌 I change the alcohol when it gets very discoloured or oversaturated with resin/resin cured bits which is dependent on how much you print. A trick I do is to have a pre-wash in a separate bucket with a toothbrush where I scrub all the resin on the surface area prior to putting it in my main bath. This will keep your IPA from getting saturated too quickly :)

One thing that could help you get the supports off extremely easy is soak the print in warm water for about 1 to 2 minutes and the supports will just peel right off.

Found your channel through a KZfaq recommendation. Great stuff! I have the same wash and cure machines and had a question: Are you still doing 10 minutes generally in the cure station? I can't find any good consensus on how long to cure things roughly the size of those shells (maybe smaller) using it. I think I might be over-curing and my final prints end up more brittle than they should be. I've tried a bunch of different times and I either end up not curing it well enough or too much. Any tips you can give from your experience would be super helpful! Thanks!

I now cure standard resin for 3-5 minutes, I find that does the trick!! If you’re looking for a more durable resin, I would check out ABS-like resin or a tough resin to get that extra strength! I find standard resin, especially Elegoo, EXTREMELY fragile and brittle no matter the curing time.

So I play tabletop games and am looking to get a good printer for terrain (little buildings and stuff). High resolution and print area size are generally the most important factors. I have had the Prusa i3 recommended a bunch of times, but is it still the go-to for that sort of thing?
@FacilityD20
@FacilityD20 Жыл бұрын
Prusa is great, Creality as well its a less expensive machine. I just got one myself.
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian Жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron! There are many options available, it just depends on what you want to spend. The Prusa is great for filament based printing as it is super reliable, but there are many more affordable options like creality. If you’re looking for very clean finish with no layer lines and high resolution, the Elegoo Mars 3 Pro is a great starter resin printer :)

Thank you, and does it fit the Saturn 4 Ultra?
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian 4 күн бұрын
I would assume so but I’m not 100% sure. I recommend taking your resin prints off the plate before washing, this will avoid saturating your alcohol too quickly.

My washing station is dirty after a few prints. How do I get the hard resin out of it? It's on the surface of the bottom
@Gibbbrayden
@Gibbbrayden Жыл бұрын
i have seen people leave it in the sun and it will solidify the resin and you can strain it out. Then you have clean alcohol
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian Жыл бұрын
I’ll seen some people filter it out and also leave it out in the sun as Brayden suggested.

so is this one machine in the bundle or 2? images show 2 and you have 2 but i'm assuming you already had a station and this is a second? in which case what is the difference between the X bundle and the XS bundle and WHAT makes them a bundle if only one station? 😅
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian Жыл бұрын
Noo I unboxed the bundle with both the wash and cure station, it’s two separate units😁 At 4:30 I unpackaged both bases :) I’m not entirely sure what the difference is between the X and XS bundle is but I know the addition of the UV probe is new and it’s made to fit the Saturn 2👌
@WarpaintStudios
@WarpaintStudios Жыл бұрын
@@nicolebalian ah must have missed that haha. So the wash station is separate to the cure station (unlike the elegoo mercury plus). Are they inter-usable? Or is one dedicated to wash and other to cure? Sorry for all the questions, it’s just they got a sale on elegoo and am wanting a resin printer setup 😁
@nicolebalian
@nicolebalian Жыл бұрын
@@WarpaintStudios No worries! They are both separate units (unlike the plus). One is dedicated to washing (has a propeller that circulates the alcohol) and the other has a turn table and two pillars that produce UV light for curing. It’s really easy to set up and definitely worth the investment :)
