Pixar’s first full-blown romantic comedy is lovely. It’s not subtle with its fire and water metaphor for characters from different cultures falling for each other but it’s very heartfelt and sweet.

Wade salvaging the Blue Flame speaks strongly to me. Wade loves Ember so much, and knows how important her culture is to her, so his respect for her culture is as strong as his love.

Elemental isn't top tier Pixar, but it was very enjoyable, the world-building is frankly impressive, the animation is of course splendid, and the romance is believable and fun. Really glad that this film got saved at the box office. It started out looking like it would become one of the biggest animated bombs to almost breaking even.

Without a doubt, Elemental deserves so much credit than initially given. What started off as a weak opening weekend, it proved to be a sleeper hit! After the dismal performance of Lightyear in 2022, I think Elemental became the redemption for Pixar. Proof they can still write an interesting story. Director Peter Sohn did a wonderful job!

Honestly, it's a bit more impressive than Puss in Boots: The Last Wish's comeback at the box office. Both got saved by word of mouth, but Elemental managed to still hold on strong in a crowded summer, whereas Puss barely had any competition as well as having the holidays helping it out.

Yeah, and I'm glad. It's a lovely movie which was even better on the big screen. What was bizarre (and a sad sign of the times we live in) certain people were reacting with glee over the fact that it opened poorly. Like, what?

@@nicolasbaron4506Add to the fact that Puss in Boots 2 was a sequel and rooted in the Shrek series. Elemental was an original film and not based on any preexisting IP. IMO that makes its eventual comeback at the box office much more impressive.

I swear, Ember and Wade are just perfect for each other in so many ways imaginable. Their love is just so powerful throughout this entire movie, when they hold hands and kiss, my heart literally melted. I was just in complete awe. One of the greatest couples I’ve seen, definitely one of my top favourites. Well done, Pixar! 100/10!!! ❤🔥💧❤ We need a sequel with them having a steam baby possibly, that would be amazing. Just showing how much more powerful Ember’s and Wade’s love for each other has become.

This is Pixar's most underrated film hands down! For some reason, this movie hits differently than other Pixar movies maybe because of how personal it is to me compared to most other Pixar movies. And the score I just can't stop listening to me. Oppenheimer fans are gonna hate me for this but I think Elemental has my favorite score of the year so far and I'm hoping it gets a best original score nomination at the Oscars even though Oppenheimer is gonna win for sure.

I also loved how in this film, you heard hints of the score from Finding Nemo, especially towards the end which makes sense as it was the same composer, Thomas Newman IMO this is one of my favorite scores by him

21:46 Ember brightening up when Wade compliments her is equivalent to blushing and it's SO CUTE! When humans blush, blood rushes to our face ("blush" = "BLood" + "rUSH") and when she "blushes," more light goes to her face. And she goes purple when she gets angry because real-life fire has different colors at different heat levels. From coldest to hottest, flame colors go from red to orange to yellow to white and then to a purplish-blue. Ember's flames don't go blue because the animators reserved blue fire for the special Blue Flame, but kept the heat=mood theme by making purple her angry color. Maybe that's why it's called "temper-ature?" lol Oh, and real-life fire CAN turn different rainbow colors when you mix in the right chemicals, so when Ember turns different prismatic colors as she steps on the crystals during her date with Wade, that's actually close to the truth.

"The customer is always right when it comes to a matter of taste." Wow, that quote blew my mind. I've always wondered why they leave out the last part of the quote. To me, it was always been "The customer is always right". I've been working at the grocery store for 16 years, and I finally understood the true meaning of the phrase. Weird, right?😂

31:35 Formal attire for Fire People is made of stained glass; It looks like a traditional robe or cloak made out of a colorful lantern! Regular everyday clothes are made from fireproof chainmail-like mesh or paneling, like what fireplace curtains are made from. Ember's outfits are made of diamond-shaped metal-fabric panels, (I kinda want her crop top and skirt outfit, and her purple hoodie) and her mom's shawl is made of the mesh-like chainmail stuff. VERY creative and fitting, Pixar designing team!

34:00 THAT is unconditional love right there. Ember has just rejected Wade in front of her ENTIRE community and her parents, very painfully, and the moment Wade sees that Fire Town, and by extension Ember, are in danger, he immediately shows concern for them as his top priority and makes EVERY effort he can to save them, even at the cost of his own life (even if that was temporary.)

You get to see Ember and Wade visit her family during/after her internship and see some stuff she made, and Ember's parents hanging out with Wade's family, and some other characters interacting! (And you get to listen to "Steal the Show" by Lauv, which is a treat in itself!)

One of the best Pixar movies ever made. The characters were really emotional, many jokes were effective and the history so surprising ! I enjoy how the familial pressure is treated here. Wade and Ember for ever, an excellent couple !

I watched Elemental recently and to be honest, it was alright. Not exactly a showstopper among the latter, but a good film imo. The concept of a water guy and a fire girl coming together in a romantic relationship, I found interesting, pretty much what kept me intrigued throughout the story.

But now that the one thing she was worried about isn't a problem and she can hold Wade's hands and dance with him, she's hopelessly smitten and it SHOWS in her face! 29:50 And Wade has always looked at her admiringly, but THIS look in his eyes is PURE ADORATION! 29:56 GYAHHHH they're such a cute, wholesome couple!

i love the way this films subverts the typical gender roles in films. in keeping with their elements, ember is hot headed and has anger issues (a typically male trait) while wade is emotionally intelligent and cries easily (typically feminine). wade especially holds a special spot in my heart because of his softer brand of masculinity, which i just love

Yay! This was a highly anticipated film to see you react to! I knew you’d enjoy it, as IMO it’s my favorite Pixar film in years and the first film in a while I’ve seen several times within a short amount of time. I saw it twice in the theater and now several more times since it released on digital. For this film, it was a home run on everything from the animation, characters, voice acting, themes, heart, humor, score (especially since it was done by Thomas Newman, I did hear some hints of Finding Nemo in it) and the main song “Steal the Show” by Lauv. Ember and Wade are now arguably my favorite animated couple. It’s also the first animated film in a whole to hit me in the feels as hard as it did, and the first in a while to feel relatable. I’d give it a 9/10. PS This film had the comeback story of the summer. Despite its slow start at the box office it eventually had a massive rejuvenation. As of this writing, it has netted $468 million worldwide. It is now officially Pixar’s highest grossing post pandemic film, and for an original film that’s quite impressive. Here’s to hoping this will encourage more original ideas down the road.

I thought this movie was so emotional beautiful. I have seen so many situations Where people similar to ember have to deal with being a first generation, person amongst parents of immigrants trying hold on for their conditions but figure out who you are.

I don't know if I am biased, but I loved this movie so much. Like Ember I am also a first gen on my father's side. (First gen meaning first generation born in new country a parent has immigrated to for those who dont know, its what Americans call it at least). And to add I am mixed race cause my father is a mix of a couple races and my mother a mix of another. I grew up and experienced racism for what I am, what my parents are, and more. This movie shown light on something I grew up with. Instead of hiding or ignoring it we learn from it and embrace positive change.

I’ve seen that, and yes it would’ve been cute (it likely would’ve been an epilogue or post credit scene) I do think it works better for a continuation down the road. Such as in a short or miniseries which I do think is a possibility.

38:36 Hey, if the love of my life just told me they loved me as much as I love them, after a LOT of uncertainty (and rejecting me in front of their entire community) and brought me back from the dead to tell me they want me in their life, I'd have a huge happy grin too! Plus, if their dad had previously hated me and suddenly gave me the dad-equivalent of "Ok, you make my child happy and you're good for them, and they love you. So approve of you," I'd be crying tears of relief and joy just like Wade.

1:44 Ngl, this film definitely makes me think of ATLA & LOK. It makes me wish Firebenders could be light 10:34 19:40 25:11 36:48, & Airbenders could bend electricity - they just feel like a perfect fit lol. Also kinda makes me wish Firebenders could bend molten substances tbh (i.e. glass 4:43 18:44 19:02 21:09 35:13, metal & lava).

This movie is probably the best Pixar romance in my opinion because it’s more relatable, it’s over an hour long more than the opening to Up it has characters that actually speak unlike Wall-E and there’s no filler Pixar has tried this before and this time they got it right

I thought this was gonna be a basic love plot but this story felt like it was written about my life minus the romance part. 36:03 The first time I watched this movie, I wondered why Ember didn't let Wade go first when climbing up the chimney, if he was the one who was close to dying/evaporating. Then I realized that if he went first and she went right after him, it'd be the equivalent of putting water over an open flame. He would've just boiled faster. She had to go first so her heat, which travels upwards, wouldn't speed up the process of overheating him... Of course, the blocked chimney was a blessing in disguise because without the rubble stopping an evaporated Wade from floating away into thin air the way steam does, she wouldn't have been able to bring him back from the water trapped in the chimney and in the stone and mortar/plaster of the ceiling/walls. I'm just glad the lack of oxygen didn't make her extinguish, too, and that she was found soon enough to be ok. Water can never be created or destroyed, all the water on the planet has always been here and always will be, in different forms. Bringing Wade back was possible as long as you had all parts of the water-blob that made HIM up specifically. Ember will likely never be resurrected if she dies, because although you can relight a fire in the same wood, it's not the same flame anymore. Ember can never be re-constituted, the only thing she can do is add more fuel to herself if parts of her are damaged, but it'll probably never bring her back to life unless there's one live coal of her left that can reignite.

What people forget is that water people can still basically die from water, as we see in the movie water people can separate they're body but, if they are separated too far, they won't be able to come together again and essentially will become regular water

28:37 Gale wouldn't have been able to go underwater because air is less dense than water. She's too buoyant, or "floaty," to go underwater, she'd rise like a bubble. If an Air person wanted to go underwater, I assume they'd need to be inside an airtight container/vessel/vehicle that's heavy so that their buoyancy is canceled out. But the movie never really mentions this, and there's usually no reason for an Air person to even go underwater. This is just my theory based on physics lol

While it’s box office comeback was impressive ($468 million as of this writing) IDK if it’ll be enough for a sequel. But if they make a short(s) or miniseries I’d be okay with that too. I see either of those being more likely ; there’s just too much potential in this world not to further explore and make a continuation of some sort out of.
