A tip that I have is to hold most of your money in your savings account instead of your chequings account! So when you go to spend money, you are forced to look at your bank account to transfer money over and it almost makes you feel a little guilty. It's also slightly annoying which deters you from spending more lol

I did this! But I transferred a little at a time, which led to like 6 transfers a month so they closed my savings acc lol😩🥲

a lot of savings accounts also have incentive to keep your balance higher at the end of the month than the beginning! mine has bonus interest rates that are dependent on fulfilling that condition

Figuring out my "guilt free spending" amount was the MOST empowering and helpful tool when I started budgeting. It feels like parenting yourself a little bit, but it's literally an allowance and it makes me so much more relieved to know that I can afford to buy the things I want sometimes! It also forces you to be more conscious in your purchasing decisions, and intentional. Do I want to buy this now? or next month? Will I still want it then? etc etc. Great video!!

I just spent 2 hours making a budget of the past 3 months. I keep telling myself I need a budget but haven't found my platform to keep track of my spending. Yes! The word budget also doesn't have to be a negative word - it should be thought of as a neutral and something you are in control of! It doesn't just mean it's restrictive - it's just how your money works for your life!

Elena, in mint, if you filter each months transactions by category (ie restaurants) there is a small link at the bottom right to export all the transactions to excel. which you can directly copy and paste into your custom spreadsheet if you delete a few of the columns. Would probably save you some time, instead of manually inputting every transaction individually

Elena, just wanted to share how I use mint and deal with the whole Venmo situation (Ik its super annoying). I understand why you have mint + the spreadsheet at the end of the month but tbh it sounds a bit redundant to me to do all the categorizing in mint but then have to copy paste everything in excel. I simply manually categorize my venmo transactions, and for everything else I have set "rules", so its pretty much automated. I only do this twice a week and it takes me ~5 mins to categorize all my venmo transactions in the correct budget category. After which, you can export everything into a spreadsheet already categorized in the correct place if you wish. Also, mint already has the feature where you can compare any month with any previous month as well. Just sharing my two cents! Thank you for the video, always enjoy watching your stuff!

Loving all your personal finance content!! -- Question for everyone: I'm curious, when budgeting, do you all compare your earnings from last month to this month's expenses (since you're technically using the money you got from your paycheck from last month) OR do you all compare your earnings that you will be getting this month to this month's expenses? (I hope this makes sense)!

Hello!!! I personally compare it with money from last month, since is the money that I have available. For example: 1st of Sept I get money into my account from August, and I make my budget from there for that month. Otherwise, I would be playing with money that I don't have, which could lead to a disaster hahaha. Hope this makes sense!

Have a goal Look at your bank statements for the past 3 months Break down expenses 50 to needs (rent, bills, groceries) 30 goes to wants (restaurants, games) 20 goes to savings Spend less than you earn
