It killed me how the person filming slowly panned to the left to reveal the 2 people in the pool. I cant even begin to imagine what it would be like to be faced with such a massive beast in such a casual encounter. Elephants are so majestic.

What's amazing about these huge animals is how fast they can disappear, blending into the vegetation. I've seen a herd of about 40 (Umfalozi National Park in S. Africa) disappear into a thicket of tall brush and you'd never know they were there until you walked into the middle of them. And... I was within 10 ft. of one at a campground. I crawled out of the pup tent, turned around, and there he was, right behind the tent. Scared the shit out of me, but he was perfectly calm and wandered off. This was a wild elephant but obviously habituated to people. An unbelievably strong presence. And... I've been charged by an angry elephant (also Umfalozi) and THAT'S an experience you never forget. So angry he's shaking his his trunk left to right as he runs right at you. We were in a Porsche Cayenne, driven by a race driver, who was driving backwards away from the charging elephant, steering by looking into the rear view mirror, which meant his brain had to reverse what is eyes saw every time we went around a curve. Eric said "I don't think he likes the color of my car". Jeezuz, I'll never forget it!
