(12-5-2014) NEVER trespass on a construction site, this was done with proper clearances. Anyway enjoy a tour of this beautiful 1920s building as it is being refurbished. I LOVE seeing a neglected historic building being brought back to its original splendor. This building is a beautiful art deco building complete with an arcade (mall) and after at least 14 years of vacancy is finally being shown the love she deserves. Also enjoy a ride on a Fraco Construction Hoist as well as the interior vintage OTIS elevators that were modded in the 1980s by Virginia elevator with a relay logic controller.

Love the motor sound on the fraco construction elevator! Almost sounds like an jet or vacuum. Nice old building too! 😀

I remember the day we shot this footage. Probably one of the most interesting story shoots I have ever worked on while working in TV News. Hopefully they keep the original Hall Lanterns, the same as the ones in the Empire State Building.

Before it was condos I was obsessed with this building. I have lived in RVA for 40 years. I was lucky enough to go to a weird art exhibition there and take some pictures. I used to tell myself that I want to die in this building, lol, now I can’t afford to. There is a lot of cool things about this place! The CNB neon sign would tell you the weather and the running joke of building it was that it finally was built just in time for the bankers to jump off it when the recession hit. I love the old vault room and the passenger elevators. I’m sure it’s different now though.

+JoshCraver9000 this was on an older camera. the camera switches to 30FPS in lower light also, final cut and AVCHD dont mix well :(
