I’m no where near the caliber of Dave, but this is almost exactly how I program my speed bench. I think it has really allowed me to continue to make progress in my 50’s. I’m interested in the chain philosophy as to “not really counting it” ? I don’t have access to anything except some ridiculous foundry chains so I never use them for dynamic effort.

I actually use a velocity sensor (Beast) for my DE work and ME work to track my speed and power output, force output and volume. Speed bench at the correct speed/weight has been awesome for all of my pressing power in bench and overhead

I'm referring to individuals different speed work, not specifically the chalking btw rather than going off prescribed percentages finding your own

So if you take out the band tension at the bottom equivalent weight from the barbell, does that mean you ramp up with straight weight if you're figuring out your weight for speed work or would you just do the ramp up like you did with chains and apply lesser weight for bands since they still have tension at the bottom?

What about speed work on deadlifts? I've added it on days when the squat is my heavy lift. I'm curious to see if I see any benefits. Still too early to tell.

Can’t recall the type/name of bench Dave is using but it’s similar to a floor press. With the ROM he’s using, is that specific for Dave or is the recommendation to use a similar ROM? Or floor press? …since I don’t have access to the same bench.

This is just specific to Dave's 3 week circuit! A standard bench works fine

@@eliteftsofficial I can't believe Dave is still benching. Bone on bone? His feeling on this must be the more common idea that he needs shoulder replacement and they can't get much worse at this point..."nothing to loose" mentality? I love that guy and "Elite FTS"

What exactly is the point of "speed work" for powerlifting? I've had coaches program speed work for me and coaches that didn't. As far as I know, you're not judged by how fast you do the rep, as long as you get it.

Good point, I'm a powerlifting hobbyist, and not too bad either considering the restrictions of my newer stupid lifestyle that I forced into yrs ago lol! anyways....I'm not sold on it either, I would totally trust Dave and say it works, if there wasn't so many dudes out there with the same or similar knowledge saying it doesn't work....haha, so after using it, and not realizing it's benefits, I stopped, after listening to the other crowd, and now I'm doing it again (just started), for my lower body mostly (due to my current slight elbow trouble from benching) and so far I feel like I'm noticing good results, still too soon to tell , been running through good morning prs left and right since starting it up again. Yeah the idea is simple really, if u think of it like this ....if u bent over to pick up a 50lb db , is it gonna be lighter to u going slow , or picking it up quickly? Which attempt is going to " feel" .... lighter? Thats why. The quicker u can move a weight the easier it is, that's why basically.

Dynamic Effort Training (40-60%) is used to improve technique & increase force production. It is most beneficial when utilized with bands. Some argue that Dynamic Effort with straight weight is equally effective, but i think that it’s pretty much just technical training and is useful until you are technically sound. ALTHOUGH, extended ROM DE training is definitely beneficial, for obvious reasons.

According to the Soviet sport scientists who came up with the method, it's not supposed to be used to increase maximal strength, only the rate of force development. Basically you might as well do straight sets if you're a powerlifter.

I like the set up on the rack bench to make it more like a floor press. Question is how to get a set up like that ?
