I agree with an exception: if a person is selling a bottle of some obscure proprietary blend for $100.00 a pop saying that if you take it you too can look just like them. In that case, yes, their claims are misleading.

The answer to the question "Why do you care if somebody is natty or not?" is pretty simple. I don't if they don't lie about it to my face. If you lie about it and compare yourself to me and compete against me, that is dishonest. I don't care what the rules say, it's just plain dishonest. You are then representing yourself in a false light while belittling people who are not in the same category as you to begin with. I know former world's strongest men who have openly told me that they couldn't have gotten the results they got without PEDs and that's ok with me but I also come accross people who use PEDs every day just to one-up other people and then lie about using them or PEDs not being a big deal for performance. That's a spit in the face for all the people who are not using and grinding away to get stronger. Just my 2 cents on the matter

@@bsrkoacar8414agreed but like they mention some people respond much better then others. So in a sense genetics do play a major role. Like your not gonna become Arnold Schwarzenegger by taking steroids I’m sorry lol. Or even deadlift 500kg, truth is most people don’t have the genetics so in a sense they are kinda better then you because even if you took them you probably wouldn’t achieve the same results because everybody responds differently

Anyone who’s been around the weight room long enough knows who the enhanced lifters are. They stand way out. 30 years ago when I was playing D1 football and I said I might be more interested in using Roids if they made you faster and a teammate looked at me and said they do! I still never used, but you could tell this dude did. Not only are users, bigger and stronger than their peers that are natural, but they act a little off too. Again, this is pretty easy to spot whether users like to admit this or not, it definitely affects personality.

It’s not entitlement and narcissism. That’s kind of a myopic way to look at it. The issues people have are those that clearly use and outright say they don’t and make young impressionable people believe that their body is achievable naturally. There’s nothing wrong if people choose to use PEDs but at the same time, being intentionally misleading is fucked up. That, I think is the biggest issue people have.

If I showed you a picture of a completely natural guy who has god tier genetics and said, "You'll never look like him because he has way better genetics" would you just stop training because you can't look like person x? Because you can do the exact same things as a natural person and get nowhere near the same results. So looking at someone else and saying, "Well because he did it I should get the exact same results as him" is a faulty way to go about it. You should take the time to LEARN about yourself and what works for you. Absorb knowledge for others and implement it. Some things may work, some won't. That's the whole point of training: to develop your own individual philosophy and training style. That being said I agree about lying about it or being mislead. But even then, if you take the time to research and gain experience you'll be able to easily discern bullshit from real shit.

People want to know if somebody is natural or not because they want to know if that look or weight is achievable by them. Obviously most people are not working out hard enough for this to even be an issue but people still need to know what they might be able to look like one day, or what kind of weight they might be lifting one day. People will lift for decades and still not be able to lift nearly as much as the people they see online. People want to know if this is because they are not working out hard enough or is it because those people are taking PEDs. That is a legitimate reason.
@radalexander7160
@radalexander7160 2 жыл бұрын
You should focus on what's achievable to you based on your own efforts. The problem with a lot of people training now is they just see the end results of years of training from those on the internet and want it to happen right away, and are obsessed over nuance. A lot of the shit you'll learn about training will come from practical experience and putting things into action. So how do you know if you're training hard enough or dieting hard enough? You train and diet and if you don't get the results you want then you change what you're doing and try something else. Rinse and repeat. There are natural guys who you could train and diet just like and not get their results because you just aren't them...you have different genetics. So why even worry about trying to look like or be someone else? Just learn what you can from multiple sources then combine that with your own experience to make the best blueprint for you. That's what everyone's endpoint should be.

For me it's not about being entitled or narcissistic about wanting to know if someone takes PEDs. It's not about 'owing' anyone an explanation either. For me, as someone who's lifted hard for 45 years and never taken PEDs, it's more about understanding what it takes to get in the best shape and become the strongest I can be through trial and error and discipline. When I see non-competitive dudes on Instagram who are obviously on some form of testosterone and or HGH (I've been around long enough to know who is 99% of the time) I find it misleading to the average kid or dude who has no idea how to train hard naturally first. I wrestled for 7 years before I started my lifting career so I knew how to train really hard. What I didn't know in the beginning was how to train with weights hard and not over train. That's the art of strength training to me. The average guy may not know that taking testosterone allows you to train harder without over training and it seems like nowadays a lot of people are in a hurry and don't want to or aren't willing to pay the hard price for a great physique. I personally never took steroids because I have an addictive personality and didn't want to go down that path or have to come off of them. I also don't like crutches. I don't judge those who take them as long as they're disciplined.

This conversation is fit for 40 years ago,not now. The reason I say that,is that William lewelyn wrote steroid guides in the early 2,000's ,he wrote a guide for each year in that decade. Going back further to the ,80's, Aids patients openly talked about steroids playing a major role in preserving their lean weight. Add to that all sports champions,pro and amatuer who were busted for steroids in the 80's. Guys everyone for years has known that athletes take steroids. Only thing different these days is the click bait steroids provide on KZfaq. But as a topic this is super old, how many know who Dan Duchaine was ,and what he did,also Patrick Arnold's and Victor Conte's role in the Olympic and baseball doping?

amen. great conversation. Why is marijuana, sarms, peptides,...legal (in most states)..but anabolic / androgenic steroids illegal??? Because the government wants people weak, drunk and high. This makes them easy to control. WTF would the US government do if all X Navy seals, Marines, Ranges, banned together??? think about it. In med school we were taught almost nothing about anabolic steroids. Yes there are many "studies" but most are very weak evidence when you read the details of the studies, not controlled, not long term,.... Yes this shit is very dangerous but so are many prescription medications and even over the counter products. Bottle of Tylenol will kill an adult but we allow any age kid to buy it at CVS. Heck, super easy to cook cyanide at home but apples and almonds are still legal. Problems is, no one fighting for steroid rights. Lifters are not standing up and voting with their money to fight for the rights to use these products. Stand up and be counted or forever hide in the dark. For the big drug companies, No money / profit margin in many of the steroids, many can be cooked at home and are, just ask,...(name intentionally blank, jejejeje). However millions of lobbyist dollars spent on lipid medications, blood pressure medications, over the counter insulin, and the list goes on and on.... funny side note, many items that are "illegal" in the USA or by "prescription only" are free sold without prescription here in South America and yet people are not dying in the streets as they are in the US. Plus, if that is not enough, most of the items are sold at HALF the price as they are in the US for the same name brand ! Even something as simple as Cialis is only available by prescription in the USA. Anything that gets you "hard", illegal, immoral or prescription only.

While I generally agree with you, this absolutely should be legal, the conspiratorial part is pretty stupid. If anything, it would be better for the government to have everyone on PEDs. @@tarzanizcool Marijuana (MJ) has been illegal for generations and is still illegal at the federal level despite certain states decriminalizing/legalizing it locally. You don't need to complicate your viewpoint on steroids with big T conspiracy theories. MJ has a complicated racial history with regard to the law which would be fair to label as a legitimate government conspiracy from record. Government reduction of access to certain goods to reduce the risk of overthrow is certainly in the government's interest if relevant, but banning steroids for that as a primary, secondary, or even as a tertiary goal doesn't seem particularly relevant. Moral panic is a much simpler explanation and has a lot more evidence in my view. Also, armed forces have been on many different drugs at basically any point in recorded history for both combat effectiveness and recreationally. That's just a silly one. I actually agree on the mismatch between risk and prescription status. Tylenol is actually far more risky than it is perceived to be. However, this is not actually necessarily a strong argument because two things can be risky while having different legal status'. One being better than a thing that is dangerous is not actually an argument that this thing is safe. Make the argument on its own merits. That said, the risk of both MJ and many steroid is overstated historically. It would be better if information around these topics was less sensationalized and more accurate. Your reasoning for this however, is less convincing. That's my take on it at least

@@peterdearborn Absolutely agree. All I’ll add is, drugs like insulin and heart condition medications are a business made out of necessity as these problems became more and more prevalent due to a multitude of factors to lengthy to discuss in a KZfaq comments section. @@peterdearborn Yeah, I agree, but that's not my point. I think we probably agree overall. It's definitely a moral panic thing, and I think the fact that steroids are also not really "recreational" in the same way as say cannabis contributes to that. I can't just take gear every once in a while, it's a real commitment, which is a HUGE barrier to entry and thus why there's not much of a "steroids rights" movement and probably never will be.

@@tarzanizcool Sorry, I meant to link my reply to OP, specifically addressing the very shaky "the gov't is trying to make you weak by making steroids illegal" argument. I'm sure that sounded cool in their head, but is pants on head silly. I do agree with your points on why we don't see a similar cultural push with steroids as we do with MJ. Additionally, unlike MJ's status for a long time, TRT and the like do have legal avenues with prescription, so the highly motivated do have some options there already. Additionally, steroids tend to require a fair deal of personal research and commitment to regularly having lab tests to do with relative safety, whereas MJ (while not completely harmless of course) isn't going to cause organ failure just because you dosed incorrectly.

In some contexts it is important to know. And you shouldn't obfuscate the underlying reasons why with hyper responders, etc. Good to know Kelly Branton was using Sarms while prepping for IPF worlds when he was popped in out of competition testing. Then a month or so later at IPF worlds, Ray had "food poisoning" and has never been the same lifter he was before that. Now he's sus. Barry Bonds is iced out of the Hall of Fame, but how many others, including pitchers, were using steroids at the time. A lot people selling their supplements or training programs saying those are the things that helped them achieve their bodies/result, but leave out their PED usage, that's a problem also. I think people want to know, because they want to know what's actually real, even taking PEDs is real but it's a variable between an ATWR and not. Maybe there is a guy with the genetics and commitment of a Jim Wendler, but he's a total natty. It be good for him to know that specific thing he might be missing beyond the "mystical work ethic" Jim may have had. Then there's actually letting people know the pros and cons of PED usage, what to look out for if you're having to go black market on some of the compounds and so on. Clearly PED usage is often illegal, one of the cons, but that's the only reason to maintain this cult of secrecy, not some type of morality/ethicalness, like people are violating HIPPA. Amazing how no cares about sharing their diet, or training program, but whoa, don't ask about my PED usage that's out of bounds man.

PED's - my chuckles are due to folks who think that if they take them they get instantly very muscular and strong. That is BS. If you don't work hard, PED's will do nothing for you. What most PEDs do is increase your ability to recover and that includes repairing muscle fiber damage done under workloads. In general PED's will give you a slight edge over a natty athlete but you have to work hard to take advantage of it. Think of Lance Armstrong as an example - all the doping he did was to heavily oxygenate his blood so he had more endurance on those 10,000 foot climbs on a bike. He still had to train - he still had to work like a dog in climbing and that 2 or 3% edge in endurance may have given him extra wins in some stages. I asked myself - what the long term effects were - and I didn't know.

@kozmo7
@kozmo7 2 жыл бұрын
@Björn Jansson You have to understand burn victims are hyper metabolic. There’s a reason why certain supplements have different outcomes based on what is happening inn the body. Muscle protein breakdown in burn victims is unchanged, but it does help increase muscle protein synthesis. This stuff is much more complicated than, inject roids, get muscle. Someone sitting on the couch that isn’t muscle wasting and isn’t lifting weights will not notice the benefits of these drugs, as there is no increased net need, which is created when say, healing from a burn.
@brianhickey5949
@brianhickey5949 2 жыл бұрын
@Björn Jansson Let's just look at it simply. If you could sit on your sofa doing nothing and use PEDs and gain muscle mass - everyone would be doing it. It doesn't work that way. Anabolic steroid dosing keeps protein scavenging at bay, so you could perhaps retain some lean mass and slow atrophy, but there is no muscular gain. I have been through extended hospitalization with cancer and there was no indication for steroids at all. I don't know about every situation, but from my experience it isn't useful. One interesting note - the athletes at the top actually do not use much in the way of anabolics. These athletes are genetically gifted and don't generally need any assistance - seems counterintuitive doesn't it?
