I'm using Nanoweb, last time I changed my strings was 3 years ago. They aren't rusted, they still have a good tone to them. I've only had to intonate them twice since putting them on, they don't sound dead yet. The coating is just now barely starting to peel underneath. Just barely. Strings will last a long time as long as you oil your fretboard and strings every 3 months or so with some lizard spit or some lemon oil/orange oil. I live in a high rain, high humidity area where regular strings like D'addarios would have corroded and rusted already, even with fretboard/string oiling and care. I picked up another pack of Elixirs 2 days ago. I'll probably change the strings after I break one of them or after I notice actual corrosion on the string. I can't believe they still have gloss and shine to them. If it were another brand like Ernie Ball or D'Addario they'd have corroded and broken already. I use to use D'Addario a lot, and I swore by them. But then after my experience with these strings I think these Elixirs are my go-to.

Great vid, been watching your vids for quite a while, firstly with your EVH head comparisons for research and currently own a 5150 III 50w 6l6 & El34 and love my 6l6 as my main gig rig through a mesa traditional slant 4x12. Also a long term (@ 15 year) Elixir string user. My gig guitars are both Ibanez 2120xxv prestige models (one used only for gigs, one only for practice) with seymour duncan blackout pickups. Years ago I tried a lot of different string brands (all .009-.042) and at the top end of market the main difference for me was down to feel and longevity as the "tone" was minimal. I change strings between 3-4 gigs (4 hour "sweaty" gigs at the top end of humid Australia) and am a bit heavy on the trem stretches at times and never broken a string. The tone stays, they stretch/tune well and the feel stays constant. I prefer the nanoweb, I do not use "finger ease" or anything similar as I slide a lot when lead playing (slide as in finger movement not with a "slide" guitar style) and they detract from natural feel. For me, the Elixir nano are my favourite, great tone, perfect reliance for gigging and tone quality. My only recommendation is they may last for 10+ gigs but... for 4-5 they are perfectly reliable. Golden rule, never break a sting at a gig!!!!! Love your vids man, look forward to what you shoot next.

Strumming the guitars unplugged IMHO the Nanos are dull sounding and the Optis are louder and a bit brighter on the wound strings. I can not hear a difference on the unwound i.e. smaller strings. I have also found the nanos to have more coating on the wound strings making them easier to play and very easy to slide, however after time the costing tends to peal where you pick. If you pick like a caveman like ME! ha ha Hope that helps a wee bit. Try em I think you will like them! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I use Optiweb 9-42 on my 25.5" guitars and 10-46 on my 24.75" scale guitars. I use 9.5-44 on my 25" PRS, sadly Elixir doesn't offer that gauge so I have to go with D'addario or Ernie Ball. :( Come on Elixir, give us a nice set of 9.5-44 please.

Thank you Eddie Lykins! Yes very subjective for sure! I love learning about what other players like and use. What are your thoughts on Elixirs and what made you choose Curt Mangan strings?
@eddielykins
@eddielykins 2 жыл бұрын
@@X9Eric, Sorry it took me so long to reply. I've been out of town working (to pay for my strings...lol) I like Mangan strings for the variety. Materials... Monel, Nickel, or Stainless...any gauge. They build you custom sets with any gauge you want including half steps..9.5, 10.5 etc, etc. So you can have equal tension if you want, cater to your body resonance if you are that detail oriented or fine tune to the pick-up resistance on a string by string basis as well as dealing with how each players amp responds. I tried the Elixers when they first came out and the coating peeled pretty quickly for me. I just had a bad taste and never went back.
@eddielykins
@eddielykins 2 жыл бұрын
@@X9Eric...Oh and let's go back to the materials. You can order a custom gauge of 3 different materials and have 3 totally different tones based only on the strings....it's a really cool tool to have if your pick ups are dynamic enough to play with that.
