Great information presented here. I have been using Elixir's on my Acoustics for over 15 years now. I love them. I use the Nanoweb 12's on my Taylor 414ce-R and the 11's on my Ovation Legend. oNe LovE from NYC

Why do you think the optiweb are better than the nanoweb? What’s the real difference between the two of them?
@Knosferatu
@Knosferatu Жыл бұрын
They're not. Nano is longer lasting brighter and less scrape sounds when shifting so better for recording and also faster obviously. I'm actually considering polywebs but might go down a gauge since the extra coating although increases all the good benefits more than nano, increases tension.

I actually ran Polywebs for a bit switching form Daddarios because I was looking for strings that didn't 'chirp' so much when I was shifting positions on the neck. Good strings, and they lasted a long time, but not the solution I was looking for. To be fair that's not what they're designed for, so no fault of the strings. I'm currently running Daddario Half Rounds and much happier with the results I get from those. Elixer strings are worth checking out if you're looking for coated strings. BTW, I did have to adjust intonation a wee bit on the wound strings. The lighter coated sets may not need that.

Thanks for the comments on Elixir Strings, I bought a Telecaster a few years ago that had a new set of Nanowebs on it and was blown away at the tone and feel. I actually play my tele for at least 1 hour a day and have not had switch out the strings for over a year now. I also recently bought a set of polywebs for a Strat that has some bright pickups and those strings sound phenomenal and took off the unwanted highs. I was a Ernie Ball Slinky player for many years and had the mindset that strings are strings ( my bad ). Ernie Ball Cobalts are nice too but I am hooked on the Elixir strings right now big time

Great video, thanks! Been using elixir strings for years (no ideas which coating I chose, just the ones the fella behind the counter gave me!) But recently tried another coated string, don’t really want to put them down but it rhymes with B’Abbario and I just couldn’t take to them, I’ve really got used to the slippy feel and my acid’y fingers just ate through them, only had them on 2 days, ah well! Back to Elixirs for me :)

The so-called 80/20 "bronze" on wound guitar strings is actually BRASS, consisting of 80% copper and 20% zinc (copper + zinc = brass). That's why it has that light golden, brassy colour, instead of the more reddish "bronzey" colour of phosphor bronze strings. The phosphor bronze is copper with, if I recall correctly, about 7% tin (copper + tin = bronze) and just a tiny pinch of phosphor added to that.

I use polywebs lights on my Taylor and same for my Ultra Telecaster. They last longer than conventional uncoated strings and on an electric guitar there’s no noticeable sound difference. I use the acoustic for writing so not really concerned about sound difference. To each their own.

Elixir optiweb is BY FAR best sounding clear string. Tried various EB slinky's, cobalts, Daddario NXL, Hgs Boomers, and others... gauges 9-46, 10-52... NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO ELIXIR. Thing is just that you haveto replace them often... afterall who the f* plays same strings for two months?😮😊
