I swear by the Optiwebs - they don’t feel “coated” in the same way that other Elixir strings (or other brands’ coated strings) do, they just kinda feel like if a pair of uncoated strings never got gummy, sticky, or uncomfortable to play. More like if there was just a permanent layer of GHS Fast Fret or something, but without the unpleasant oiliness. They probably feel underwhelming since you’re used to the feel of the Nanowebs, but compared to uncoated strings they feel heavenly IMO - makes playing guitar feel effortless without too much of an adjustment period.

Yes! I've been using Nanowebs for over ten years and love the slippery feel. I've been intrigued by the Optiwebs but never tried them. I have a feeling I won't like them since normal strings feel like playing on sandpaper most of the time for me.

Another great video, I tried the optiweb strings and I like them had them on for a month and what I thought was dust was the coating from the strings, never the less they still sounded good. But I switched back to the Dunlop 9 to 46 I really like this brand and guage.

Believe me. You will LOVE them. I play quiet a lot but i don't change strings more then 2 or 3 times a year, sometimes even less! Yes they do get some tear and wear as well and are suffering mechanical, but they will still sound dynamic and bright!

i have very (VERY) corrosive sweat, a common set of new strings ( D'Addario etc )does not survive an afternoon of rehearsal with me... so i gave the elixir's a go about 8 months ago and its been 8 months since i don't change strings ( and i play EVERY day ) the Nanowebs are awesome , the slippery feel is what i love the most . even tho here in Brasil they're very expensive they're worth it every penny. Ps: i just broke the high E string lol

Great vid!👍👍👍👍for sure. I have poly webs on all my guitars, can’t go wrong with Elixir, I’ve never had a problem. I tried EB paradigm, they corroded as did a set of clear tone. Just my 2cents.

Will need to try these out. I went from 11's to Billy Gibbons brand- Willy"s lottery 8's and will never use heavy gauge again. Much easier on my hands with just a bit of adjustment on bends. Strings last a long time too. I do use a heavier gauge on the low E string though for drop D stuff.

I've recently compared Optiwebs and XTs on 3 electric guitars and an acoustic guitar. Optiwebs are what I wished my first coated strings felt like : no noticeable coating, only slightly higher tension. With heavy gigging/rehearsals/demo recording, 9-46/10-46 in E std and 10-52 sets in D std last me about 1 month and 3 weeks before I feel the need to change them. Daddario XTs are a whole different story: been using XL then NYXL almost exclusively for the past 10 years. XTs are in the lineage of the NYXLs: sturdy, superb stability/intonation and slightly fuller sounding than the latter. I vastly prefer the sound of the XTs to that of the Optiwebs which seem to lack bottom end and midrange in comparison. That being said, in comparable conditions 9-46/10-46 sets in E std last about 3 weeks before the sound goes dull and the 10-52 set in D std lasts just shy of 4 weeks. Both sets feel similar in that their coating's barely noticeable (Optiwebs having a tad more tension), I love the sound of XTs but they die from my acidic sweat way too quickly so I'm starting to settle on the Optiwebs... Has anyone had the same underwhelming experience with XTs?

When you have more than a handful of guitars Elixirs are a must or you will be changing strings all the time. I love them because I can change a guitar and come back to it a month later and they are still good. Thx

I tried them out a while back. I really liked the tone vs. the Nanowebs but it didn't take long for the coating to wear off and I can't stand that rough feeling on my fretting hand. Back to the Nanos for me.

To me, the Optiwebs sound like a set of uncoated strings after they've been broken in and the harshness in the highs has died down a little, and then they just stay that way for a month or two. Really dig them.

I heard from a lot of Guitar store owners and employee that the Optiwebs seem to sell quite badly which I don't understand because I love the natural feel. In my experience they stay fresh and keep the "new strings sound" for very long and to me they sound pretty balanced. The Optiwebs are definitely my recommendation!!! :) By the way: I really hate that soupy, slippery and artificial feel of the Nanowebs :P

Hey mate. Funny, I was just checking new string options for my acoustics and electrics when this popped up. D'Addario have the new XT series out which would be great to compare to the Elixirs. I can't get away from Thomastik-Infield Plectrums for my 6 and 12 string acoustics. Bloody expensive though. Cheers Leon.

Hello Leon, I have used the Optiwebs for a bit now, I like the polywebs as well.. Guess I am not picky. I like them after a few days of play & love them for the long life. I was going to email you but I didn't see an address. So I will muddy the water here... I have a video topic if you would like to tackle it. I am an old Axe Fx II user and recenly received an Axe FX III & FC6... I have figured out most things and your videos are great. Having 8 years Helped a ton with the FC Controller layouts and so on. The one thing I can quite get my head around is the USB In, What do we do with this block?... I am a Mac User and have Itunes and KZfaq running the the AXFXIII as the interface no problem. I bought a cable lightening bolt with USB on the other end to run an Ipad for backing tracks when I am away from main computer. Any thoughts on that? I have looked around and there is very little that I have found regarding the USB in. Thanks again for all the great info.

I've always liked the nanowebs (tho I get heaps of crap from guitar friends who hate the coating) - I sometimes get sweaty hands so I like the way they last as well as feel - be interesting to see how the optiwebs are after a months - also i see you thread all your strings first and to little winding - another thing for me to try! cool stuff

Loving that shirt sir.. I couldn't get used to the coated strings. They chipped and flaked off all over where I picked when I tried them.. I have always used Slinkys. Since like 77. 😂👍 God I'm old 😂😂 Loving that custom PRS. Interesting sir. If they don't feel coated I would like them... Your guitar needs a haircut now. 😂😂 On another subject. Please please please sir do a review of the Line 6 Go. I'm confused about it. Like does it have the same chip power as the helix oriented small solutions? The advertisement says helix amps, etc. Doesn't say how many blocks, etc, onne can use. Not that I would need too many. I'm pretty easy. Would also love to see you do a shootout for lack of a word with your original ADA mp VERSUS the new model. Just some thoughts on ideas for vids my friend. As always I dig this channel no matter..👍💝👍
