I love how proud Walsingham looked of her. He was instrumental in guiding her to be the strong Queen she became and it's sweet to see his look of approval as she holds her own.
@joescott8877 Жыл бұрын
For sure! I just revisited the very last scene as well, and noticed how Walsingham seems to be the only one brave? Allowed? enough to NOT keep his head bowed as The Queen moves towards her throne, but looks fairly steadfastly (and no doubt with some more approval, and even awe) on as she approaches.

I like how Elizabeth made that comment, "How can I force you your grace? I'm a woman!" that made me smile and laugh at her own joke. She is trying to convince her council that they need a church that is full of English pride and unity her church to be the Church of England."

The unique open debate of the English Parliament, where there isn't orderly objections and assents, but real time cacophony, a place that makes life or death decisions, where one must be able to wield; charm, wit, flattery, sarcasm, and brevity, like a sword, or fail and face the same at one's neck.

cryingsakura A single Church of England, and the monarch is the head of church, not the pope
Looking back my one gripe with this film is that it did Sir Robert Dudley dirty. Sure he was not without flaws like any human being but in reality he eventually became Elizabeth's closest and most trusted advisor and they loved each other deeply for the rest of their natural lives. The film however makes him out to be some simple-minded manwhore whom Elizabeth had locked away and chose to forget about in the end. Also it is ironic she became known as The Virgin Queen when in truth it is well documented she engaged in numerous sexual trysts during her long reign. But hey... this is a Hollywood film after all.

I don't get it: she asks if a man can serve two masters and be faithful to both? Well I wouldn't shout "heresy" if it's a question but no, if the masters contradict one another, ofc not, and Jesus didn't found the Church of England but upon the rock that is Peter and his successors, the Roman Pontiffs, of whom he was the first; a national Church calling itself "catholic", which means universal, as the Anglican one does, doesn't make any sense whatsover and therefore, any secular power and true Christian must submit to the Roman Pontiff (also, eben Muslims and Jews have the same God, perhaps that's the reason why she rather allied with the Ottomans slaughtering Christians (like she also did) than the Catholic monarchies
