4 жыл бұрын

Elizabeth Galton is well known in the fashion industry and has entered the Den seeking an investment of £110,000 in return for a 20% equity stake, but Elizabeth's luxurious creations worried the Dragons...
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

I know it's hard for a westerner to appreciate, but the Chinese have a strong history of thousands of years of craftsmanship. All you need to do is look at some of the Imperial era jade carving to see the Chinese are capable of beautiful artistry. Just because they also make your McDonald's Happy Meal toys, doesn't mean they're not still capable of higher quality items. Cheaper labour costs doesn't necessarily mean poorer quality. www.christies.com/img/LotImages/2015/NYR/2015_NYR_03711_0267_000(a_chinese_spinach_green_jade_octagonal_lantern).jpg

The business was dissolved in March 2008 and the dragons both resigned before the end of 2005, so they were involved for less than 10 months. She created an online platform to sell her jewellery in 2011 but it closed down in 2012. In 2017 she started a jewellery consultancy firm and is still doing that today. She is also currently head of marketing at Radley, a UK based jewellery company. Although she isn't making this eccentric jewellery anymore, she is doing quite well for herself it seems.

30% is quite close to the 20% she'd started with. I've seen people accepting much bigger differences than they'd started with. Could have maybe seen about a buy back if it made the money she was meant to. But then I've seen some people trying to negotiate and the dragon declaring themself out. That being her only offer, one of the two dagons involved declaring themselves out would have been the end.

I can see her jewelry doing well from a sort of mordern fashion approach. I think her pieces have her interest on the fact that they are so different. My first impression was that they were ugly but the advertisement of the even large piece kind of persuaded me, along with her sales. I personally think this kind of people can be marketed towards someone who wants to show a statement and be different and communicate their eye of fashion. It’s difficult to explain but that’s my opinion, let me know how you guys see it.

The title is wrong. A markup of 1,400 percent is not the same as margin. That just means she is charging 14 x cost of goods which is around 7% for cost of goods. Great COGS but she's not giving a ridiculous margin at all. Gross Margin would be 93% (plus other COGS) and then NET margin after operating costs and depreciation/amortization, and taxes. Her markup isn't unreasonable at all.

Ageism is rampant and she evidently realises it. By saying that she's 28, she's revealing that she's mature enough to be competent, but still young enough to be a creative visionary, at least according to generalisations.

@M M @M M that's business. That's how you make money. She's very well spoken, her margin is ridiculous and she's been incredibly successful. How do you know what the average earner of China earns? How do you know whether she pays the workers in China well? The UK outsource the vast majority of their products overseas, we are a service nation. We manufacture nothing in this country unless you go to boutique places in the heart of London. You're probably wearing something made in China / Taiwan, the hypocrisy. At some point we have all contributed to these countries and they're economy is the fastest growing economy, whether its buying something from Nike or buying some form of pots or pans. We all contributed at some point into these big companies who outsource to developing countries. Should these countries stay in poverty or grow too? If we wear these branded clothes or buy from developing country, we too contribute to these companies, I guess we all have no class by your logic.
