Is a peep really necessary for shooting a bow accurately? I did some testing to find out. I removed the peep and in this video, I'll talk about what I did to ensure a consistent anchor point and if I was able to shoot consistent groups.

I'm strictly a hunter and have never used a peep until last year. It was great target shooting where I had all the time in the world and plenty of light. Come half way through the hunting season I took it off and threw it down the side of the mountain. Absolutely not needed.

Awesome video! I haven’t bow hunted the last two year because of sight problems when using a peep. I am Whitetail hunter on the east coast, I practice at 50 and 60 yards, but a 30 yard or less shot is average out here. I have been kicking around ideas to get myself back in a tree. I run a peep with an EZV bowsight. Awesome how much it opens up your sight picture. You can shoot and arrow and literally watch the arrow fly down the center of the V and hit the target. Pins blocks so much arrow flight and ill never go back. Lots of guys run the EZV and peepless and can get some awesome groups.

Thanks for the video! Man, you wouldn’t believe it I literally just figured this out about 3 hours ago. I don’t have a bow press anymore and didn’t really want to stick a screw driver in my cam like old school to install a new peep but I thought I’ll put my kisser on, get my dloop right and shoot a few arrows just to shoot.. I shot an inch group of 6 arrows at 10ish yards. I was like well, that went better than expected. Walked in the house, put my bow up and was like woo wait what?! I’ve accidentally over the years worked myself into a hesitation that causes me to jerk. I knew something felt different without the peep but couldn’t place it, I took it back out and shot 6 arrows at 25, and 6 at 40 and oh my god where has this video been! Man, you absolutely nailed it. It’s like your brain is thanking you, “now we can see the sight picture and target this is much easier!” You can clearly focus on your pin. Maybe it’s not for everybody but anyone who’s getting discouraged or wondering why it feels stressed, consider this and give it a shot. The world will open up for you it feels at full draw. Maybe a peep would still be good to build a fundamental good anchor point but if you’re solid, take that peep out! Gotta see it to believe it. I immediately searched does anybody else do this?! Haha! Glad to see I’m not the only one.

I discovered I could shoot better with no peep by accident. Bought a new bow and wanted to shoot it a few times before getting peep installed. Using a 3-pin front sight, I shot a few arrows at close range and was drilling the 10 ring. I can’t get a kisser to line up right so I’m just going with 2 anchor points using a thumb release. May try and put a small piece of serving at the sight point for reference. I keep one eye closed and sight to left of string. Need to keep string lined up as close as possible over pin or shots will drift horizontally.

I know what you're saying. I don't like horizontal multiple pins but I bought an IQ for a while. Since then I have purchased 2 EZV sights for 2 bows & the open sight window is what I need. I basically with the EZV never shoot left or right. If my elevation is right I'm on my spot. I actually had a peep on my bow early season a few years ago. A deer was very close & it moved very slowly. After 15 minutes I shot & of course it moved right when I touched off the thumb release. The movement was towards me & I ended up hitting it a little high & to the right. Nowhere near that shoulder. When the animal is very close any movement u can't pick up do to sight restriction is hard to see. That animal is a doe & she has had twin fawns the last 2 years. She has a younger sister but I did take her very old mother away from her later in the year I shot her. When I shot her it was like she went 20 yards & stopped. No blood, no blood on the arrow & 2 days later she was eating crab apples in the evening just 300 yards away. I have shot winter indoor league & won trophies. It's all about anchor & consistent shot execution. Next time u watch a good QB in a NFL game check & see if u see him using a sight?

Ok, I understand the anchor points, and I'm gonna try this, this season. What I don't understand is, how you use 1 single pin at various distances. It seems to me that the single pin would be for one single distance, and you'd have to guess where to aim on the deer and hope you're aiming in the correct height (top of shoulder, spine, tree behind the deer, or further distances where you're aiming at the cloud, etc.). Whereas with three pins, each is set (on the heart) for their own distance, and you put the pin on the vital V every time and you know its gonna punch that spot. I'm trying to understand but I need help. Thank you!
@ElkCallingAcademy
@ElkCallingAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment. The single pin is an adjustable sight that has a sight tape with the different yardages based on the speeds the bow is shooting. When shooting 3d courses I’ll adjust the sight for each shot. Hunting is a little different. Before hunting season I will set my pin at 30 yards and then shoot from 20 and 40 while aiming at the same spot with the single pin set at 30. This will show me where my arrows are hitting at those distances and this give me my hold over/under for 20 & 40. It’s basically aiming using the Kentucky Windage approach. For me I hit an inch high at 20 and about 3 inches low at 40. I have used a 3 pin adjustable sight in the past and they will work for you also. I just prefer the sight picture that a single pin adjustable sight gives me. Best of luck and keep me updated on your progress!

i shoot a fixed single pin for aiming and i run a second pin in the sight window for ranging, if the torso of the deer fits just between or outside of the two pins its in range if not no shot. if there are branches in-between the top aiming pin and the top of my housing the arrow does not have clearance to fly. took a bit of trial and error to find what my acceptable drop was for my bow and arrow setup but it is the absolute fastest setup for mobile hunting with minimal equipment.

Until just a few years ago I didn't use a peep for hunting. You're not trying to score points. 99% of time you just need to hit within like 4" maybe 6" diameter spot on the side of a deer, elk or hog. Usually not using a peep is good enough to hit like a coyote at 30 yards +. The single most important thing is your form and release position consistency.
