Decent tutorial. For those hating, I think this would work really well for an open format type DJ spinning a wedding or something where you have to cater to a lot of different people and you're bouncing around different genres constantly.

Great explanation - loving this video nine years after it was made. :) If you cater to clients who want soul / funk / disco sets and not the tidy 120BPMish tempo of house you need to get good at this. No matter your set-up you can't really get away without an ear for music when playing old school.

Oh thank you! Definitely not MY time wasted! I was helpless how to mix tracks with e.g. 90 and 125 bpm, my controller allows me like max. 15 bpm manual difference or so, and I don't want to use sync button neither. I have aside of those two options for matching the tempo also some other manual option called "TAP" button - you tap more than 4times and you manually give a new tempo to the song, I still haven't had investigate how this works in a practical way for me (speaking about Numark Platinum, so if you would have any hint how to use it, please let me know:).This is simple (I have no idea how to do it - I just know you can skip right to the another track with totally different bpm but didn't know exactly how) , easy to understand and just genius! Don't listen to haters, I appreciate your tutorials!

I find this the best way and sometimes the only way to mix disco (aka live recordings).You could try mixing for more than 2 bars but no one these days wants to hear a track's pitch fluctuate like that. Thanks Jon.

Great explanation! That was precisely my question. And you are absolutely right about the audience being able to hear the track going too fast or slow. You could just tell, even if you have not heard the tune before. :)

Can you do a video on some tricks you can do with JUST the EQing? I run into problems sometimes where I've practiced a mix on a mixer with certain effects and even sometimes plan to edit songs with certain effects that I then need to rethink because the mixer I end up performing on doesnt have the effects I need. Love your videos!

It depends on the software. For example if you have serato itch or seraro dj you will need a controller or system. But if you have Algoriddim's Djay you can mix and start djing strait from your computer. Hope that helps

Guys i'm kind of a beginner in this whole world of mixing / producing music, I personally enjoy and I prefer to mix basically EDM, House, Electro etc. Do you recommend me an all -in-one digital mixer with two decks, or to build progressively my set with a good mixer, and 2 (or more) turntables ? I'd appreciate an answer.

Ok, so I think this is basically what I have been doing. If I am not mistaken, you simply don't change the tempo of either song, but rather have the change in tempo due to changing the song come in on the end of a bar. Anyone please help explain a bit more if I am wrong. :)

I am a little confused. At 5:30 you said you were going to wait those 2 bars until the vocals came in, and then switch the crossfader over, but when you mixed it near the end I didn't hear those 2 bars I just heard the vocals immediately. Maybe I am not hearing something, or did you mean that you already were at the point you were going to mix (past those 2 bars in the intro) and just crossfaded? I get the point I just got lost
@peterbradley2359
@peterbradley2359 10 жыл бұрын
If he started mixing in two bars before the vocals come in, the tracks wouldn't keep in time because of the different bpm.The trick to this is not to drop mixes at the count of one of a bar because sometimes vocals start at beat 4 as in this case ,others start on beat 3.

more or less than plus or minus 3 is really going to make the pitch kinda wonky innit?but with master tempo, it's easy..i do minus 33% with Virtual DJ ..on the regular.. I.e. if i'm on 90 bpm, i slow that one down towards the end to 60 bpm and then mix in a 120bpm track on top of the 60..if that makes sense, or in a similar situation , do 140 to 70 or a 180 transition to a 90..or vice versa
@Tygron
@Tygron 11 жыл бұрын
Correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems that the seconds song there isn't being brought in on 1. Now I know that's not always a big deal, but in my head at least it seems it would have sounded a little better if you had the count of 4 come in with the other track playing, and then bump it over on the count of 1. I know the songs aren't playing the same speed so maybe there's some problem with that. But meh. Just a thought, I suppose that's why we practice and n'joy right?

there's a difference between a Dj and a poducer/musician. a Dj just does what a dj does. a producer/ musician creates music, with the ability to play an actual instrument, but performs their songs as a dj would.
@marayarodriguez2100
@marayarodriguez2100 8 жыл бұрын
+JustA502Boy I totally get what Ü mean, I myself DJ, and I have a passion for it, but it is different from playing an actual instrument, I play drums along side Dj-ing and that is truly feeling music, when Ü can actually play a beat created by someone using software, Ü feel the music on a whole different level. there's nothing wrong with being a DJ without instrument expirence, but it keeps Ü from the "button pusher" stereotypical group
