It took me a long time to manage to ride the pitch to 90% match. For me on tunes like the one ive linked, i have to just ever so slighlty nudge the platter to fine tune it to 100%

There's is also another trick 33/45 flick on and off to catch up. Works a treat if viynl is on 33. Flick to 45 for quater if a-ser then back to 33. ÷) also thumb and finger over middle hub to to spied up or slow down. With out it jumping forward or back. Great video by the way.

I think this is the "hardest" way to sync 2 tracks, but very effective when you know what you're doin' and when you have to change your track fast.. easiest way is to start playing new track, pitch it up above playing track and gently slow it down with your finger on the platter or wax itself, simultaneously slowing it down on pitch.. then you do the final adjustment when the tracks are almost at same tempo..

I have been DJing on vinyl for about two months now and I have a question. Is there a best practice for when one wishes to mix two tracks that are different in tempo. I specifically refer to the following situation: Lets say I have a record playing and the pitch fader is at 0%, the record I would like to bring in needs to be around +2%. Personally I would speed up the record I want to bring in, but is there any reason why I should speed up the record that is currently playing? Or should I make the records meet in the middle to avoid/reduce a change to harmonic tone? I would do the latter if the difference in BPM between the two records was greater. Thanks in advance.

@@roberttodd2414 Hey Robert, I got a question. I just got my first pair of decks and I’m about to start learning the art of beat matching. However, I can’t wrap my head around one thing specifically. So, let’s say for example the track that is playing is at 120bpms. I want to bring in next the 125bpm track. Now, since you’re not supposed to touch the pitch of the track that is currently playing (since the audience could notice it), it means I have one option, and that is to slower down the 125bpm track to 120 in order to mix it in. Now what I can’t understand is, if I’m going to slow down any track that is going in next, how am I supposed to lift the bpm up during the set (I mean, if I start the set with some easy 120bpm disco house, how to get to the point in the set where I’m gonna mix some 128/130 house/techno/whatever? Thanks!

I have to ask why mix like that? I like to start fast keeping it in time by slowing down by hand as I adjust the pitch until it’s in time, this just looks like it would ware out your pitch fader prematurely

If you get really good it allows absolute flawless mixing without event hearing small pitchbends … also for me personally it allows me to beatmatch them basically immediately At the end of the day I think the best thing is to use every technique according to the situation

Mine sort of never stays in the place. Is that because I don't have Techics, I have some old Omnitronic turntables. Or could it really be just because of the lack of my experience and practice ?
@mother-fng-bonswa3612
@mother-fng-bonswa3612 7 жыл бұрын
Because its vinyl. will never stay for longer than 40 sec, yes some records do. You always need to keep your focus on the pitch, slightly off is not that a problem, its normal with vinyl als long you don't let them train wreck (gadugadugdau). Vinyl isn't 100% flat so you will always have to keep riding. And of course practice is the key to get it more tight, but 100% throughout the whole tune, no way. Get 2 copies of the same record, put them (zero). Start them the same moment leave the pitch on zero. Check for how long they stay in sync, you would think they should be in sync throughout the whole track. But they won't, cause they are never 100% identical cause its vinyl, no 0 and 1's (Digital). And even your technics aren't 100% identical. Yes: Turntables do play a roll in this part, wow and flutter is the tightness of the motor, Technics got a wow and flutter (0.01%) its almost nothing, so it means the motor rotates very acurate. Wich Onmintronic you got, will check the wow flutter for you. For how long your mixing? How much you practice. And how much is off , off to you? Look up sets like pioneer djs on vinyl old jeff mills car cox, they also go slightly off some times, its not an issue

hey can someone help me with this so basicly when i do a mix i either do it by mix of drops or when the music slows a bit put the start of another song in but when i mix it doesnt seem to be like dj elaskins like he can get 1 song to play with another song all the way how do you know that the different parts eg. the drop parts after the drop etc. how do you know that you can beatmatch it and everything will be fine or dont you and if you do how do you do this.how do you know everything will fit together. do you count all the different part of the song or something because i dont know?

+Reece Johnson - yep, you get to know your tunes, you can count too... When you practice, try experimenting... Just like ellaskins, you can practice many different ways of performing 1 mix... what happens when I release the record here, what happens when I drop the tune in there... It's all practice... Counting helps and knowing your tunes too... once you get a few in, you will see how many tunes (esp with dance music) follows a certain formula.... Just have to know your tunes! :)

@squigglegames8171 8 жыл бұрын
+Dan R thanks dan for the help one question though i heard how as you said the formula is the same eg. dance music,club music etc. but i looked at this with some club music when i tried this (the formula is the same / prhases) it wasnt the same eg. both songs changed at 8 bars either that or i couldnt tell of the differences eg. might have been a small difference like a small thing added to the beat such as symbol but when i looked at 2 songs one kept changing after 8 bars and the other song wasnt regular at all it was like 4,2,8 etc completely random from what i could tell. you see it wasnt regualer would you know why this is am i looking at this the wrong way (am i looking at prhases the wrong way not just the song)
@TheSkratchmaster
@TheSkratchmaster 8 жыл бұрын
+Reece Johnson Yes, you're probably right... these rule (esp in music) are made to be broken! - that's why you did right, you counted the bars of the phrases and concluded that 1 of them doesn't obey "that rule" What I meant was very general, but more often than not, dance music kind of follows an 8 or 16 or 32 bar "rule" but sometimes this does get broken, esp when dealing with radio versions or even the main recording... the point is though, to get to know your tunes like this... keep experimenting and counting... once you know the phrasing of a tune, you should be able to know when to drop it so it alignes for your mix (and maybe even you are restricted to only being able to mix for 2 or 4 or 8 bars... (or even, you might find that you could drop the tune that goes 4,2,8 after 2 bars, leaving you 6 mars of mix for the 4 and 2... then drop on the 8 (or maybe even the final 8 you mention can be played with your tune...) Hope this helps... I was being very generalizing when I said about the rule... but the point really was to get to know your tunes...) - wich tunes obeay a rule... like "this is a 16 track", "this is an 8 or 32 track" then when you next mix it, you know both tracks rule and you can go! :)

yeah I definitely remember reading about this technique (and pretty sure with the same name) on a DJ related email list in the late 1990s (when people used listservs lol). He says he came up with this in 2005? As for the technique itself, people were definitely doing this as early as the late 1970s; some of the old disco clubs had belt tables (Thorens TD-125 mk2); no way you could beat match those tables other than pitch riding since if you put your finger on the platter it would take 10 seconds to come back to speed lol. All that said, props for a good tutorial, just gotta give credit where it's due.
