I have the upmost respect for Sheldon! He took responsibility after the loss to Boston and today his video of gratitude is everything in my opinion! He is not solely responsible for this mess! I wish him well and have no doubt he will find success.

Most definitely a good chunk of the failure sits directly on his shoulders. His poor decision making mixing lines up for no other reason than just because. He has failed to getting the best out of his players regardless of what your opinion is when it comes right down to it his job is to get the best out of his players at every stage. This is an opportunity for the leafs. JT and Mitch's contracts are up. Make some moves with players whos contracts are up. I think if the leafs lean out the roster and add the depth they need they could go to the cup finals next season. Sens did a similar things in 2006. It takes one summer for the team to reboot and start working well together. I wish you well.

JT and Marner both got one more year. This should be the time to shake things up. If you can somehow unload JTs contract and Morgan Reilly that clears surmountable cap space. Not to mention Murray and samsonov are off the books as well as Brodie. Move marners contract too and they’d have over 30 million in cap space depending on returns. It’s all a pipe dream but this is the chance to right Dubas’s wrong with the JT signing

The leafs may need to have a Colorado moment (where duchene was traded) which ended up allowing them to draft makar. A step back may be required for this team and to trade away a key member of this core to obtain something better for the long term and allow them to get to a final

What I saw was a team in Game 6 that played the perfect game against Boston. They used speed, toughness and a relentless full team defensive effort that pushed the Bruins off the tracks and to the brink. They had the formula. Then a few days later they lost it. It was up to the coach to pull the Game 6 success into Game 7, but they fell back into their old habits of seasonal play. Boston was happy for the gift because the Leafs had their number and then they threw it away.

Quick point….management doesn’t seem to recognize character players…the team at this point has no chemistry and very little character….they don’t seem to have the playoff mentality ( never take a shift off ) needed to win playoff hockey….. I’ve said this since forever; management of leafs get rid of character players like Hyman then sign floaters like Nylander….its like they dont recognize solid committed hockey players…..I’ve given up on the leaf organization ….very sad.

The original mess up was paying JT what they did. Understanding they wanted to get a senior guy to take the pressure and be the Capt but then signing the other guys to huge bucks? The big guns should have been signed for max $8 mill each and get overall better players. Too much to too few Keefe had a solid streak in every league he has coached. Bring coach Q.

Because it’s been 57 years of mediocrity and ownership that knows by putting a sub competitive team on the ice then they will fill seats. Not to mention Toronto has some of the most outrageous ticket prices. Too many guys on this current roster that are just there for the paycheque. I think it says something when the guy putting in the most work these playoffs was a rookie

How would this team look if Lou was still the GM? Would Willy and Mitch have gotten moved by now? Babcock probably gets fired but i dont think he would hire Keefe. I think he makes some moves to make the leafs look like the early 2000s devils. Shanahan would have lost the power struggle and hired Mark Hunter as the GM. Lou would be promoted to the President of Hockey Ops. Bennett, Hanifin or Chychrun moves happen. Boeser or Konecy moves as well. Leafs probably have a different payroll structure and more depth as a result of that.

Islander fans already hate Lou. That being said I don’t think he’d have signed Tavares. That has been their #1 problem since they signed him. Sped up their rebuild and forced them to trade away prospects to try to be competitive year in and year out. Losing Trevor Moore and Grundstrom hurts as much as anyone.

Here’s an idea for a reality show. “Who Want’s To Coach The Leafs?” Let’s pick a fan to coach the Leafs for a season. Regular season = $250K. Get to 1st round = $1MM. Escalating pay during the playoffs. Win 1st round = $250K, 2nd round = $500k, 3rd round = $750K, Stanley Cup finals = $1MM. Stanley Cup Champions = $3MM.
