In the movie Planet of the Apes based on Pierre Boulle's novel La Planète des singes, I don't think it was ever fully explained how the apes became so smart. Although this was explained in Stanley Kubrick's movie 2001 A Space Odyssey. Apparently, one group of apes was exposed to advanced technology that made them smarter than the ape group that was not exposed to the technology. Scary!

So sorry to hear that. But Elon won't be our saviour from what I gather. But don't worry, smart and hard people are working on it every day even though they don't put out videos and such. Don't let your legs get in way of doing what you want. Anyone can do anything. The world is crazy. Elon is literally defrauding entire world by showing a fake video where he claims he literally cracked human animal communication. You are special too, though you don't have to defraud anyone to do awesome things. Also, sorry for discouraging and posting a comment like this when you were excited. I didn't want you to have a false hope because of a conman preying on our collective suffering and dreams for better future. I work in electronics, but in telco but have lots of fortunate friends working in robotics and from what I gather good cheap prosthetics are still some time away at least 20-30 years. But there is lot of good stuff happening in neuroscience as well and although scientists literally have no idea what they are doing -- they are making progress. I am also hoping to get a phd in a bci and maybe learn smth. Have a great day, hope you get all that you dream of. :)

I'm curious - how groundbreaking is this? We've seen demos for some time now (years?) where humans can control a cursor or make a selection on a screen using their "thoughts". But as far as I remember those devices did not interface directly with the brain. I remember one device that sits on the side of your neck and detects tiny movements in your jaw that correspond to signals your brain is sending when you want to speak. This allowed the user to think about speaking and the device to translate into words what they were thinking of saying. And I believe we've also seen devices that interface directly with muscles so a robot hand can move its fingers based on the user thinking about moving their fingers. This seems in line with those demos except in this case the device is interfacing directly with the brain rather than the arm, for example. No doubt this is an incredible achievement! I'm just curious whether Neuralink has had a complete breakthrough here. Or has something like this already been attempted or even done before by different researchers?
@TheFootballPlaya

@@johnokean8216 is it for sure going to be powered by the brain? A machine could do the same, it'd just detect the patterns of the pixel change. But i wonder is that all it's doing? (again, didn't watch the whole thing, so if you know, can you explain?)

So they can read the output of you brain? They can technically read your thoughts then. Sure you might say they cannot interpret this info in that way at the moment, but it still begs the question. What can they do when you literally have a computer in your head? Call me paranoid but I think it's scary how casual people are being about this.

Nah, it’s purely for the Governments. NSA taps were supposedly because of terrorism... The pandemic supposedly helped advance certain technologies... The next thing is Neuralink, as if smart phones weren’t to get in some highs out of this reality. If you learn about yourself, you’ll notice the more organic everything is around you, the better you feel and heal. Technology is marketing for things we don’t need and will further hinder us spiritually. It’s a trap and they’ve set up someone people think they can trust in all this. Alluding to a new world order cause that’s what it seems they want, a new reset, go listen to klaus. Once everyone gets up and says no, await a response from the overlords, and overthrow them either way, consequentially taking back our free land, then a new course to the utopia we vision can happen

Not that I know much about Neuro-Science or Neural link. But if it sends stimulating signal, I assume you could just send random/irregular signals, which would basically interrupt brain function in that part as far as I understand. I mean it could be as simple walking up and putting a degausser(magnet wipe) over it.

That's the thing. Once you become one with their false system they can implant any belief and rewrite history and you wouldn't even be able to stop it. They could wipe your memories, make you believe anything they want you to believe and you wouldn't be able to know the difference. The last place the governments have no control over is the human mind and body, but once they put that chip in your head it's over. Bye bye free will. No more resistance. They'll have complete control over you, your thoughts, memories, emotions, and maybe even your body's biological system. Once every human being capable of tearing down their plan has been controlled then they'll be able to rest. As long as free thinking human beings exist outside of their control it will make them fear for their own downfall. Every mind uncontrolled is a loose end that can topple all they've been striving to achieve.

Completely breakthrough. We've had device that measure brain wave activity externally but never internally as such. The precision in reading brain activity to move a mouse cursor is far greater than simply measuring when the brain is active or not. It requires completely novel ways of interpreting action potentials (brain signals) and decoding what information they are actually signifying. It is rudimentary in some ways. But the idea is that one day, once the technology to decode brain signals has been sufficiently developed, you will be able to seamlessly control a computer implanted in your brain, listen to music, send texts, recieve calls, browse the internet. All instantaneously through a single thought. We would become cybernetic beings at that point. Pretty scary stuff. Not as scary as artifical intelligence though. If general artifical intelligence was to one day be created it could be disastrous. A computer that can think and be conscious completely like a human while at the same time having the processing power of a million humans at once is suddenly the most dominant form of intelligence on the planet. If let loose on our infrastructure of factories, industries, electronics, there's nothing we can do to stop it from surpassing humans as the dominant species on this planet. Elon musk argues that the greatest goal of neuralink will be to safeguard agaisnt the extinction of humanity. If general artifical intelligence is one day created, hopefully by that point humans will be so intimately and biologically connected to and in control of all of our technology that anything born in it would require us to direct its actions. In essence we would become the brain of any artifical intelligence because they would rely on a technological infrastructure that is completely biologically controlled and dependent on the human brain. And thays when the fun begins. Once the human brain is cybernetic, It can be updated with new software, faster software, smarter software. It can be upgraded with faster hardware. All the while having the processing power of an artifical intelligence symbiote to run calculations and ideas in a fraction of a second. There would be a monstrous exponential growth of human intelligence that cannot be compared even to the first fire and cooked meat. But that's all a dream. For now. Enjoy watching the cursor move.

I've got a question, can these monkeys do it without the feeding tubes? i can fully imagine the monkey applying pressure to these tubes like a joystick and the neuralink actually detecting the signals being sent to the neck muscles more than any abstract thought of the cursor moving, it also makes more sense for an animal with the intelligence of a monkey to repeatedly try this mode of interface, I'm not sure if the monkey could ever separate the abstract thought of the cursor moving and some kind of physical action to accompany it

From what I’ve seen, this is nothing new. Neuralink is just reading your brainwaves and then interpreting them into orders for something like moving a cursor. This technology already exists, albeit never in such a portable and convenient form. It kinda makes me wonder whether this *needs* to be a chip, but I guess it probably has other features that require the implantation. As for right now though, even if the chip malfunctions it won’t cause any severe damage to you as long as it doesn’t explode or something.
