The Second Impression. Without a doubt, the most exquisite piece of music Keith Emerson ever composed. 🎹🔥 RIP my genius idol 💔

this is when Emerson was at his absolute peak as a keyboard player and composer. almost makes me laugh to see Palmer struggling with a simple phrase , Keith is being very patient with him

I have fallen down an ELP rabbit hole on YT and can’t get up. Don’t want to get up. Amazingly talented men. And Greg Lake…delicious.

I spent hundreds of hours in a hot southern California garage replicating, or trying to replicate this exact song in the late 70's and early 80's as a drummer with my brother a piano/keyboard major and neighbor a bass player. Fantastic insight video. Wiosh we had it back in the day!

I've used KZfaq for most of my life (tens of thousands vids) and this is in my top 10 favorites I've ever found. Probably a tedious watch to most people but to see musicians at this caliber in this great period of innovation in music is so valuable to me. Good to see them not getting mad at each other for constantly restarting. They're so quick at learning Emerson's parts it's unreal. Sad to say, as far as I know, they never finished this piece of music. I don't hear it anywhere in the Karn Evil suite or the rest of the album. If they did put this on a record please let me know! It's a particular sound unlike any other band before or sense.

I first saw ELP, in 1971 for the Pictures At An Exhibition tour in NYC at The Academy of Music (2500 seats) on 14th and 3rd (warmup band, Glenn Cornicks WIld Turkey). They played Side-1 of Tarkus, all of Pictures and half of #1. Going in, I knew not ONE of their songs. One hit of Orange Sunshine and 3 doobs later and my religious experience was complete.

Greg Lake was using this Fender Jazz bass on the studio and it was the same bass that he used to record ELP first album and to tour as well, but then during the Karn Evil 9 tour he started using a Gibson Ripper bass and did so for the whole tour, then he started using alembic basses I think. Greg was well known for using new strings every live date, which is why his bass sounds so bright.
