Amazing rehearsal footage of a brilliant piece. There will never be another ELP. Most people in the newer generations have no idea what they missed.
@CollapsingRealities Жыл бұрын
I strongly suggest that you listen to After Crying 1990-1996. No copycats whatsoever, but they have cited ELP as their biggest influence along with King Crimson. What they did between 1990 and 1996 could make ELP and Robert Fripp (and anyone else) envious.

He was a fabulous bass player and much underrated as such. Of course he wasn’t the typical standard rock’n’roll grooving bass player but just listen to those basslines he played. He really broke ground along with the likes of Chris Squire.

When I first heard about ELP it was 1974. I remember hearing that he was considered to be the best bass player in the world. To think that he wasn't even a bass player to begin with and he reluctantly picked it up because one of his previous bands needed a bass player!

This is what master creation looks like in a music studio. They're writing this stuff on the spot. Insane.
@turquoiseblue2283 ай бұрын
Sorry but it was not written on the spot. It was rehearsed on the spot. Everything was already written in Keith's mind. You can clearly see that he teaches the other two the parts that he wrote for them. If you need evidence look at who is credited for the piece on the album.

Three talented musicians that were brilliant at taking classical music and making it accessable to the masses. They were all in their 20's too! There aren't too many in the new generation who can even get to this level. Rest In Peace Keith and Greg. Bless you Carl for carrying on the legacy. ❤️ Keith is a genius in all levels. The man just excelled in whatever he chose. Greg, was a beautiful singer and guitar/bassist ( and he was so handsome)! And Carl is just a beast on drums and today can still play at this level. He is also a very good artist.

It is so fun to watch the process of working out the various parts of a recording that mean so much to so many of us. To think they put that much work into their songs, the intricacies of what they were doing, with so much care and lack of ego.....not knowing if what they were doing would even resonate with an audience. I'm a big fan of their patience with each other. I sure wish there were other videos available of my other rock heros from back then.

Having just finished recording this tune, Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression, with an International Collaboration band (featuring Rachel Flowers) I can truthfully say with confidence that this is one complex piece of music Keith composed! The part where Keith and Greg are working with Carl on Carl's high-hat cymbals is indeed tricky, and takes time to perfect. The video of the band playing this tune will be posted in the near future. Rachel, of course, nailed it on the piano!

The way Keith plays it for Carl with the sticks on the hihat is a little confusing I think. He's playing L-L-R, L-L-R, L-L-R. If he just said, 'Count it as 2 4 beat measures' I think that would've made it easy. It works if you count it that way. Greg is having a little trouble too, but they're creating this on the fly and changing it as they go, so that's understandable.
@ytnsanw2 жыл бұрын
@@allancoe7900 I think that even though it is 2 4-beat measures, KE wanted that tripleted feel - hence the L-L-R, L-L-R business..
