@@BisscuteReacts took Elton about 20 min to write a song. If he couldn't come up with anything in roughly that time frame he would move on to next lyric. In a diary entry from 1969 he wrote: " didn't do anything... Wrote Your Song"

Bernie Taupin answered an advertisement in the music paper New Musical Express placed by Liberty Records, a company that was seeking new songwriters. Elton John responded to the same advertisement neither were taken on and neither knew each other at that stage. The rest is history and probably up there with John Lennon and Paul McCartney's meeting at a School Fete Here's a short video about it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNKqZKySysmrhKs.html

Hello again Bisscute , It's pleasing anytime your delving back into the 70's & where it all started for Elton John , so heartfelt with its tender lyrics & memorable melody, who would have thought a simple song about writing a song from that early pr film in a field ( if you're seen it ) would launch such a prolific run to international stardom for him & Bernie. Your curious for more that's lively & rockin there's ' love lies bleeding ' 'burn down the mission ' ' street kids ' & 'susie' from the same album ' honky chateau ' as rocket Man , there's plenty more well known ones that have already been sent in. Having surfed the net here's some of the best trivia on Elton for you: He taught himself piano around 4 years old playing ' the skaters walz' came up with his new name when he was coming back from a long John baldry gig with sax player elton dean with their band ' bluesology' , his middle name is Hercules also a horse from steptoe & son a popular comedy show back then. Growing up as a fan of Buddy Holly he liked wearing glasses, didn't need them but eventually couldn't see without them so they became a big part of his image & had around a 1000 pairs. When he performed ' Pinball Wizard in the rock opera movie ' Tommy ' the who took issue with covering their song & later got payback by covering his hit 'Saturday night's alright for fighting' Elton made a bet with John Lennon that if ' whatever gets you through the night' made it to number 1 which he contributed on, he would have to come up on stage at Madison Square garden (on KZfaq) he made good on his promise & it turned out to be his last before his terrible death , later on elton released ' empty garden ' as a tribute. During 73 to 76 there was 15 hit singles & were always in the album charts every month, has performed over 3, 500 concerts with 56+ top 40 singles second to Elvis which has to be a record. Elton was the first westerner to perform in the Soviet Union in 79 , russians thought that how they dressed in the west which led to the luxury clothing market. Someone saved my life tonight was about his real life suicidal attempt. Having been good friend's with Freddie Mercury, he received a painting at Christmas the last gift sent before his passing & they both knew & hung out with Princes Diana who sometimes went out in disguise. Candle in the wind with its changed lyrics is the biggest selling UK / US single of all time with 33 million copies. There was a prank with Rod Stewart during their rivalry that went to far involving a sniper bursting balloons. On a final note, phew! Believe it or not Alice in chains ( just a coincidence you did a reaction afterwards) did a album with Elton to honour Layne Staley with one of their songs' black gives way to blue' , it struck a chord because of his past struggle with addictions, elton was the first he went to see as a kid , they have always been big fans. Wasp & Nickelback have both done Elton John covers. That about covers it , hope you found it interesting, sorry I sent it in late , I was preoccupied with a loved one who's in hospital, I'll kept on showing my support & doing more when I can, you do look lovely with your make up & daisies , take care. 😃 🌼 💛

Elton John is one of the very best songwriters and artists of all time. The man is a living legend and a style icon. "Your song" is one of my favourite love songs and I have known it my entire life. One other song I also really like is his "I am still standing" ... but there are plenty of other songs I could recommend. Elton John performed live at the funeral of Princess Diana and the song Candle in the wind was only ever performed live at the funeral. Thank you for bringing this song back to my attention. ~ vals

There's a record he put out, a live album from his first tour of the U.S. called 11-17-70. It featured him as his band at the time, of Elton on piano/vocals, Nigel Olsson on drums/vocals and Dee Murray on bass/vocals. To hear the show that blew the world away and made him an instant hit, listen to the album. The energy and talent from all three were amazing. Later Davey Johnstone joined the band on guitars/vocals, and that was the sound that took the world by storm, with Elton, the band Bernie Taupin as lyricist and Gus Dudgeon as producer. Part of their magic was they could write and record music very quickly. The band doesn't usually get the credit they deserved...each wrote their own 'parts' of the songs (usually with zero input from Elton) and the band wrote and recorded the backing vocals themselves. The allowed them to create two full albums a year. So for the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, they wrote and recorded 22 songs in two weeks.

This was one of the first songs John wrote with Bernie Taupin. They met after a publishing company gave John some of Taupin's lyrics to work with. They met and eventually, they both moved into John's parent's house, where they started working together. Bernie Taupin: "I scribbled the lyric down on a lined notepad at the kitchen table of Elton's mother's apartment in the London suburb of Northwood Hills, it was breakfast time sometime in 1969. That’s it. Plain and simple." The original lyrics have coffee stains on them. Elton wrote the music in about 20 minutes, as he often did with Taupin's lyrics in their early days.

Sir Elton John is one of the is one of the most successful artists of all time. Still going strong at 75! He's sold over 300 million records worldwide. Elton John and Freddy Mercury were dear friends for many years. He regularly visited Freddy during his battle with Illness. Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote a song about Freddie Mercury after his death. John said that he was crying all the time he wrote the music. A couple of my favorite songs is I'm Still Standing and Crodile Rock.

This is from a 1971 live TV broadcast in the UK I believe shortly after this song was released, so its a fresh new take when he was young. That was over 50 years ago! I thought you'd talk more about your thoughts of this iconic song, you didn't seem to have much of a reaction to what is Elton's signature song. I take it you don't like slower quiet songs? IF you like EJ and want to hear more of his best, I'd recommend: 1. Madman Across the Water 2. Someone Saved My Life Tonight from Capt Fantastic 3. Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding from Yellow Brick Road, a 10 minute EPIC that is EJs "Proggiest" tune, and it rocks. 4. Candle in the Wind (about Marilyn Monroe) 5. Normally I would recommend the funky Bennie and the Jets, but since you seem to prefer rocking songs, Saturday Night (alright for fighting), a blistering "heavy" rock and roll tune. Another one from the great Yellow Brick Road double album.

Nuta Kotlyarenko, professionally know as Nudie Cohn was an American tailor who designed decorative rhinestone covered, Western Style suits. In music circles known as "Nudie Suits" His music artist customers ranged from Porter Wagoner, Gram Parsons, Elvis and Elton John. And that's just a most small number of his customers and suits. The cost of the suits were in the range of $1000's of dollars each. ZZ Top also donned the famous Nudie Suits. He was also known for his famous, outrageously customized automobiles, "Nudie Mobiles" I'm no music expert nor am I a musician. I just listen to a lot of and a wide variety of music. Old, new, popular and a lot of lesser know, truly talented and most unique lyrics and voices. There is so much forgotten and seldom listened to songs and artist out there. I just noticed in your Elton John video, he was wearing a Nudie Suit.

I grew up on Crocodile Rock (as well as his other hits, but Crocodile Rock was the hit when I was a kid). It references a track called Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley and His Commets that was released about 20 years earlier, but it was also big in my house as my mom loved that song and it was one of the theme songs to a famously fantastic 70's sitcom called Happy Days. (Bill Haley also did the actual theme song to that show, and the track is called Happy Days.) I hope you'll react to both those Bill Haley tracks.

Elton has A LOT of hits: Sacrifice, Tiny Dancer, Candle In The Wind, Don't Go Breaking My Heart (Really Energetic), I'm Still Standing (Also energetic), Bennie and The Jets, Daniel, Can you feel the love tonight, Blue Eyes, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Sad Songs, Crocodile Rock, I guess that's why they call it the blues, Sorry Seems to be the hardest word, Philadelphia freedom, etc, etc.

I wrote a paper in college about Brian Wilson. While researching it I read Elton hated his own singing voice. Brian encouraged him and told him just feel the song and it will work out just fine And apparently it did...

This is his older voice. He's very young here, If I'm not mistaken this is before the yellowbrick Road album. He was my favorite artist growing up and "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road" was the first album I ever bought with my own money in 1973 ( I still have all my EJ Albums and they all still play as well as they did when first removed the cellophane wrappers ( or split the cellophane wrapper on the right side of the album just to get the album out.

@@rwood3168 I took that to mean his voice when he got older, not the song being older, which is in the other direction. I think I agree that I liked his voice as he matured more but before he started losing his higher notes.
