Both Queen and Meatloaf were brilliant with Rock Opera. Probably why they sound similar. However, Nobody does a rock ballad like Meatloaf. ❤

The difference being that Queen wrote theirs. Meatloaf only exists because Jim Steinman lost his voice and hired Meat to sing his songs. Jim sounds almost identical (not *as* good, but very close).

You're watching rock royalty. The first Meatloaf album(Bat Out Of Hell) is one of the best selling albums of all time. I highly recommend you check out the title track. Jim Steinman, who wrote all the lyrics and music was a songwriting genius. There's only 7 songs on the album but every one is a masterpiece.

So true; in the 70s I had the album and played it all the time. In the 80s I had it on cassette tape, I had it on CD in the 90s, and even to this day I have it on my playlist lol. Never gets old.

Despite how much it rocks, which it certainly does, it almost seems more fitting for Broadway than the record store. It'd feel more appropriate for it to win a Tony than a Grammy. Hell, throw in Meatloaf's performance on stage and the resulting music videos, it could practically garner an EGOT all on it's own, if it was ever released in theaters.

No matter who was about to sing, as soon as I heard the first few chords, I would instantly recognize a Jim Steinman song. It was obvious to me instantly with "All Coming Back to Me" and my friends couldn't understand how I knew, while I, on the other hand, couldn't understand how they could not realize the genius of his style.

The lyrics typified a generation. I bet 90% of all men aged 30-60 relate. That said, have you guys heard Bat Outta Hell??? If you want the music, check it out. The last minute especially; the man could just. Plain. WAIL! Later, after kind of self-destroying his voice, not so much. Odd note: Google Meat doing the national anthem at the MLB allstar game in 94. Classic.

I think the song is a universal experience. Every guy and every girl has been there. 17 years old, parked at night and making out with teenage hormones going crazy. For the guys, we're just trying to have sex. For the girls, they want love and not just be a one night stand. This little dance has been going on between young guys and girls forever. It's a part of growing up, and I suspect it always will be.

Back in the day, when you were driving and the DJ announced after the commercial break, they would be back with Meatloaf but didn't say which song it would be, it didn't matter - you didn't switch to another station because you knew whatever song it was, it was going to be incredible. He just had an off the charts level of energy, much the way Queen did. Some people do more than sing, they own the stage the moment they step on it, and he did, without fail.

I was lucky enough to meet him. The summer of 79 at age 12, I visited my sister in NYC. She was a waitress at Barrymore's, a restaurant/bar in the Theater District. I sat at the bar during her shift. Sometimes she sent me off to Broadway shows with some of her theater friends or let me walk to a movie. One day, Meatloaf sat right next to me. We had a nice chat while I drank cokes and ate olives from the garnish set-up. He was super sweet. I'll never forget that.

Those were good times and we did grow up in an amazing time! Way back in the day, front seats in cars were bench seats. So, put yourself in the place of a "revved" up teenager out parking in a car, then paradise is the object of your sexual desire and you can see them because of the lights from the dashboard. The guy wants the girl to give it up, she doesn't want to at first. you know, they're talking about it, then start making out and the baseball game is what is on the radio, then ... the lyrics are pretty self explanatory from that point on.

Paradise by the dashboard light - they were talking about be barely dressed and in a car on a "lover's lane" where you go and make out and we know more than that happens there. They were young teens being alone and getting to the edge of a teenage sexual experience. The bases are a bit of an older reference to stages of having sex. Right before she engages in sex - she stops the whole thing and demands that he loves her till the end of time. That's pretty dramatic and you're not gonna have much fun being so serious. Paradise equals sex Dashboard light - they're in the car at night - the key is on and radio is on.

I've seen 5 or 6 reactions to this great performance, and I have to admit that Y'ALL were the first ones that actually "got it" and understood what this little play was all about! Well done! Carry on!

You guys should really do “Blinded By The Light” by the Manfred Mann’s Earth band. It will completely disintegrate everything you thought you knew about song writing! And Meat Loaf is a legend!

When I was a kid my parents would always blast this album and other classic rock albums at home on Saturdays when they we're both off work and we were cleaning and doing yard work etc.. when this song came on they would grab each other and smile so much. They were married for 34 years when we lost my mom to a botched surgery. This song will always have a special place in my heart.

This was out when I was in school. It was HUGE! The whole album, BAT OUT OF HELL, is awesome. Meatloaf was a big theatre guy and thought songs should tell a story. He's always theatrical like this. You should see him in ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Fantastic! Please promise me y'all aren't getting your info from Wikipedia. They suck. ❤
