I was a teenager and listened to this record then too and it was known as Theatrical Rock , as a rock opera is a actual rock opera production with a specific story being told on the stage like “ Age of Aquarius “ Jesus Christ Super Star “ and more recently “ Rock of Ages “ …. Of course they actually did a “ Bat out of Hell “ stage show or rock opera in London a few years ago , and that’s when Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf ‘s music became a “ Rock Opera” musical 👍🏻

This song came out in 1977 a year after I graduated from college. We were still in the era of album rock. There were rock radio stations that came on after 11:00 p.m. and they played entire albums. They also played Long play songs on AM & FM radio so music could be more than just three or four minutes long. This song was on the charts and it was crazy popular and I still love it today. Meatloaf is a great entertainer. In the late 70s we still got most of our music from either a radio station or possibly an 8 track tape. No internet yet no streaming no music that you carried around in your pocket. But I had an AM/FM radio by my bed and went to bed a lot of nights listening to an entire album by some of my favorite artists still today!

I’ve watched a bunch of reaction videos tonight to Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Nobody seemed to get the significance of the baseball sequence; they seemed to be watching the action or just talking over the speaking. On the record, of course, all you could hear was the speaking. It was by Phil Rizzuto, an All Star player for the NY Yankees. He won seven World Series. After retiring from baseball, Rizzuto famously broadcast Yankee games on radio and television for the next 40 years. His popular catchphrase was "Holy cow." In the song, Meat Loaf says, “We’re going to all the way tonight tonight, we’re going to go all the way tonight.” At least in the 50s, a guy tried to get to first base (kissing), then second base (boobs), then third base (fingering), and then “go all the way” home. Get it? RIP Marvin Lee Aday.

Since you didn’t seem to get the baseball analogy,I’ll explain it to you:1st base-mouth to mouth kissing, especially French kissing;2nd base-skin-to-skin touching/kissing of the breasts (in some contexts,it may refer to touching any erogenous zones through the clothes ie not actually touching the skin);3rd base-touching below the waist or manually stimulating the genitals (in some contexts it may refer to oral sex);Home Run(home base or scoring)-“full” penetrative sexual intercourse

I grew up on this one I was in high school about 16 or 17. This song made me cut class!!! Meatloaf got his name due to him being a very big boy growing up. He played football and stepped on his coach's foot one day and the coach said get off me meat. This name stuck with him throughout his life He was very active in the theater it was his first love. He has played in many movies such as fight club, The rocky horror picture show, Wayne's world and many others. As a child his father was an alcoholic and beat him often, although he forgave him. He said in an interview this made him want to be someone else and movies was his first love just so happened he best friend wrote songs and then he started incorporating music and theater together. He claims to be very very shy but you would not guess that. His concerts were extremely amazing however he never felt he gave 100% He sang and performed till almost 70 yrs old coming off stage and immediately having a physical there at all times to administer immediate oxygen. He will be greatly missed.. I wish I was 17 again listening to paradise by the dashboard light. What the you Tube documentary of him telling about his life its so sad..

This is what we called back then(theatrical rock). The original female singer was Ellen Folly. But when the film clip was being done, she was in the studio with the producer of this song recording her own album. So they used someone else. Back then everyone knew the lyrics, if it came on at a nightclub, everyone got up to dance, All the girls played the female role & all the guys played the male role. This album was super popular and had so many hits(It is one of the biggest selling albums ever). Meatloaf is also in a stage production, that was eventually made into a movie called. The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a little weird the first time seeing it. But it became a cult thing. Every Friday night we would get dressed up as one of the characters, & go to the theatre at 11pm to watch it. We would put our name in a hat and those drawn would get to act out the movie as it actually played in front of the movie screen. Quite a few songs from this show, also packed the dance floor at nightclubs). Rocky Horror is a must-watch at some stage in your musical journey.

This is literally like theatre, Carly Devito is the female in white- they were both stage musical people before Meatloaf( that dude singing) wrote a few songs and his career took off. They are both great performers and this is just fun! ❤️🎼🎶❤️😎🔥

Meat Loaf started out on Broadway. He plays Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show, which y'all should check out. His songs are so theatrical, and change tempos so much, because they are written by Jim Steinman. He uses classic composition in popular songs.

Birth of Theater ROCK!!! Nickname given to him when he was younger. JC is right the entire album is FIRE!!! That's the way his concerts were, they were like an entire rock opera all the way through with full sets and everything. They were GREAT!!! "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)"

He got the nickname 'Meatloaf", in High School. He was on his school's football team ,and one day in practice, he happened to land on his coach's foot. The coach yelled out, " get off my FOOT, you meatloaf!", and the name stuck. And back in the seventies (When I was in my teens/early 20's, sometimes at parties, the girls would start singing the girls part, while us dudes would sing back, " Let me sleep on it...", good times, lol.

He was called Meat Loaf by his high school football coach in Texas. Meat was always a big guy. He actually would have to use oxygen on stage sometimes because he would get so worked up.

Meatloaf was a nickname he got in high school. His father called him meat because of his size then the kids in high school added to the name. I loved that he made such a success using a name that was supposed to be a taunt.

Sadly Meatloaf passed away this morning from complications due to Covid. His voice was unique and his talent and stage presence was awesome. So glad to see he is still being appreciated by a new generation of music lovers the world over. Keep up with the tributes Recklezz, I'm sure you'll enjoy reacting to every track on Bat Out Of Hell, truly a sublime album. A very sad day to be sure. 😞

This is a Classic short Rock Opera. When Marvin Lee Aday was born. He was so red that his father said he looked like a pound of Meat. The Nick name stuck and when he was playing football in High School as a Defensive tackle he coach call him Meatloaf hence the name. He was absolutely wonderful man very kind and generous. R.I.P. gone to soon.

Thank you for the reaction and so glad you enjoyed the musical drama that was presented for your viewing pleasure. It is one of my favorites. The problem is, a lot of folks get caught up in the moment on both sides of that. This to many is the path they find themselves on. Wild and young and the thought past the nest few moments just doesn't come thru. To those folks I certainly wish the best for them, and their kids. Peace to all.

His name was Marvin Aday but MeatLoaf was his lifelong nickname. Her name is Karla DeVito who toured with him in concert in this video. Actress/singer Ellen Foley was on the recording. The vibes definitely change in this song a few times! You got to check out the whole concept album. Bat Out Of Hell. Theatrical rock, it's all amazingly intense, emotional.

Fun Fact: Featured on 1977's Bat Out Of Hell, “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” showcased the vocal talents of singer Ellen Foley(she co-starred in the sitcom Night Court for one season). ...Ellen Foley, who sang on the album, declined to go on the tour. Karla DeVito assumed live performance responsibilities, so the music video was created by syncing the video of DeVito's performance to the audio of Foley's vocals.

Meat Loaf is the nick-name the parents gave 'Meat Loaf' when he was born. He looked like a blob of red meat-loaf - pre-coooked. The baseball commentary was by Phil (Scooter) Rizzuto ( a NY Yankee Shortstop) turned baseball commentator. Rizzuto had no idea his commentary would be included in 'Paradise By The Dashboard Lights'.

Meat Loaf said in an interview once that part of this song is based on a date he had with the daughter of the mayor of Dallas, I'm assuming in the 1960s when he was young and ... well, you know what I mean! The music is so good here! The drummer is Max Weinberg and the keyboardist is Roy Bittan, both regulars with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band for eons now. The guitarist is Todd Rundgren. This song is 45 years old! The female vocalist is Ellen Foley and she is 70 years old now! Believe it or not, Meat Loaf was offered an understudy education by an opera company at one time back in the 1960s (I think) paying him around $60,000 per year. _Believe you me, that was a princely sum in the 1960s and 70s!_ Then he would be added more or less permanently to the opera's roster. He declined the offer. He had that rare classification of voice, a heldentenor, and they were eager to get him into the company. He actually sings opera with Pavarotti in a video here on KZfaq from 2009! I am not kidding! Here it is: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eqyih6SlqNDelZ8.html 🛸🎸👌😎
