Elvis said he never got over "stage fright" that he gets nervous before every show. This was the first satellite show by a single performer to be beamed worldwide Elvis knew he would be representing the United States to hundreds of million people who saw the show. SO he was a little more reserved in his performance-he concentrated on showing the range and power of his voice. But remember the young 19 yr old Elvis who started in 1954 was now 38 yrs old and had become a much more polished performer and had increased his vocal range to nearly 3 octaves.

Ths 1973 Aloha Hawaii Show was the first Live Satellite 🛰 Performance Beamed around the World to 40 + Countries, it was viewed by over 1.5 BILLION People Worldwide 🌎 . Elvis was warned to keep the gyrating down so as not to offend people with more reserved traditions, thats why it was more Subdued than usual. Yes, I woild imagine Performing before that many People would make even the most seasoned performer a bit nervous.😆

Elvis was nervous because this was the first ever concert beamed by satellite throughout the whole world Elvis was so afraid of how people from other countries would see him Plus he was told not to move around because people might get offended Back then People were more reserved and didn't like all the dancing, shaking and gyrating They found it offensive So Elvis was holding back In some songs You could tell he wanted to move He would give that cheeky smile So it was a combination of things First worldwide concert by satellite Scared of what people from other countries would think of him And told not to move Oh my goodness I would be nervous, too 😂 Love your reactions ❤

Elvis was under tremendous pressure and nervous because this concert was broadcast on via Satellite around the world, he knew this was a monumental task and would be broadcast worldwide. Also the producer of the show requested him not to move a lot because of the cameras and technical aspects, he did not play around much at all. This was probably the last performance where Elvis was completely straight, Elvis suspended his drug use and was on a 500 calorie a day diet for six weeks and lost 25 lb getting ready for this concert. He was tan, slimmed down and looked amazing. His vocals were amazing for that show. He looked like a Greek God, just flawless.

Elvis suffered from nerves before every performance, including when he was younger. Once he walked out on that stage, his on stage extrovert persona took over, but he was actually a shy introvert & doing interviews was always difficult for him, because then there was no on-stage extrovert to take over. If you see him in interviews, you can see he is nervous, though by the 1970s his knew how to handle the media, so not as bad as in his earlier years. He had a lot of pressure on him to do a really good concert. Not only was there a huge audience for the two concerts he did in the heat of Hawaii over two days, but this was the very first live concert to be beamed around the world to 36 countries, via satellite, & around 1.6 billion people were watching his live performance worldwide. I watched it in New Zealand, & he was just magnificent.

Elvis was definitely slowing down when he made this show at age 38. But never the less .. it was a great show.. FIRST Satellite show seen world wide ...expected to raise $25,000 for Cancer & raised 75,000! I blame his manager for over working Elvis. But Hey! He looked fantastic at 38 .. and Burning Love is my #1 fave of Elvis!

All right, so there’s a couple of pieces to the story that you don’t know about yet. Number 1: Elvis was told before the concert he had to stand still for most of the concert so that the cameras wouldn’t miss him. Normally he would laugh that off, but this time he could not. This was the world's first international close circuit TV concert of an international superstar. Dozens of countries were watching and the audience for this was 1.75 billion people. So, I think Elvis was a little nervous and blown away by the technology (As was witnessed in the pre-concert interview) so take your pick! Was he nervous? Did he have to stand still? I think the answer is both.

Yes, he was told to move a little because of the wide audiences he was reaching he was very reserved. I was disappointed when I saw this performance the first time on TV but l love all the songs he did. His vocals were so amazing. He definitely had changed from the younger Elvis. His voice was deeper and stronger. In his personal life he was going through a divorce. You can see he chose many sad ballets for this concert. He didn’t want to do up beat songs and he almost didn’t do burning love. He still kept performing and gave us his soul. RIP you are forever loved.

Hi Jacob, in answer to your question you just picked not the right song from the aloha from Hawaii. Yes, he was nervous. Why? Because this was the first satellite broadcast in American history. And this concert was seen all over the world for the first time in history by over 1 billion people. nothing was ever done before that or after that it was the only worldwide international satellite performance so he was scared and rightfully so. However, pick a song called what now my love or welcome to my world or an American trilogy from the same concert. Totally different. I don’t particularly like this version of burning love myself I found it for Elvis a little bland. Also, you really have to take into consideration that you’re jumping from a young teenage young youth boy going into a 40 year old man big difference. His style changed as he grew older. If you want action, go to Elvis live Las Vegas and look for Polk salad, Annie, or suspicious minds and boy, you’ll see him move. He doesn’t stop. And remember not too many years later He had passed away, so you really have to take that into consideration. He had a lot of underlying health issues, and he also was addicted to prescription medication which wasn’t so much the case in his early youth so you have to kinda look at the whole picture, but please check out live Las Vegas Polk salad, Annie, check out, suspicious minds all in the same timeframe give or take a year, but like I said, this is not the best song from this concert. I hope that helped God bless take care.

Elvis was very ill at this point. He was still in a lot of pain when he was performing. The pain pill are not working well at this time. He told his longtime confidant that he almost passed out in the middle of this show. His suit is made with semi-precious stones and weighs close to 100lb, 140lb with cape.

There are many performances, where Elvis' doesn't move around too much, even back in the 50's and 60's. Some 70's performances, like Fever (awesome performance) and when he is singing Jerry Lee Lewis' song, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, he stands very still, but every now and then will just shake a leg or move his shoulders and that's enough to make the crowd go wild. With regards to his hand, he did that a lot, it's not unusual. 😊

This was a historic concert- 1st ever to be beamed around the world live via satellite (over a billion tuned in) so he wanted everything to roll perfectly so he restricted his moves and was very also nervous. This was 4yrs before his death and his movements on stage were slowing down. Some say his divorce to Pricilla marked the beginning of the end for Elvis

About the drugs, there is a book called, Elvis Presley, Destined To Die Young. The author did a lot of research, and it's a well known fact that Elvis was born with medical problems, due to his material grandparents being first cousins. Elvis' mom passed on August 14, 1958, at age 46. Many of her siblings passed in their late 40's to early 50's. Elvis' daughter passed at age 54, just days before her 55th birthday. They all passed of similar problems. When Elvis passed, 9 of his 11 organs where damaged or diseased. The prescription drugs his doctor prescribed for him helped with a lot of his medical problems, and were necessary to help him through his lifetime of pain. His medical problems were hereditary. The media have twisted the truth and said he passed due to his drug intake (prescription drugs). Very little was known about the dangers of these drugs in those days, and yes, some of them were addictive, so near the end, Elvis was addicted to some of the medication. He suffered with anxiety and insomnia most of his life, along with other hereditary medical problems. They say he was destined to die young because of these medical problems, and that he could very well have passed in his late 40's to early or mid 50's, even if he were not on the prescription drugs, however, the unknown dangers of those prescription drugs ended up cutting his life shorter. I hope this makes sense. 😢

THAT RAMP from the STAGE: Producer/director Marty Pasetta told Parker (Elvis' manager) that he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no. Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to because Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis but Parker still said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Pasetta told Elvis he wanted him to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Without that ramp the concert would have been very different if Elvis did not have the option to get in close touch w-the audience. He was advised to "keep his movements down" since the concert was going to some countries that would not appreciate some of his movements. I also think he was not feeling very well. He looked extremely tired & uncomfortable in his demeanor. He seemed to be on the beginning of a little downhill slide at this point. Suggestions: the water throwing incident 1972 Hampton Roads, Virginia when @ extreme very start of the video Elvis called out “Please Release Me” but the band began playing “I Can’t Stop Loving You” - he didn’t stop them, he went right into the song, he then walked over to his glass of water, picked it up & playfully threw it at Glen @ piano -- a fun, energetic, powerhouse at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grSkg5h4yZ61d3k.html -- make sure you hear him say Please Release Me & then the water incident will make sense; also note his little irritated look @ beginning. "Blue Suede Shoes" from his '68 special - the longer version from sitting to center stage w-a great finish kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9FlfqiTzp6ykZc.html (2:50); "Jailhouse Rock" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bp1-abSSlaqbe40.html center stage (1:50). This is Elvis unleashed, doing what he did best. Since they are both very short you could do one then do the other for a total of just 4 min.

Elvis admitted to going through stage fright with every live performance. You wouldn't think so, because he always looked so comfortable on stage. Although he did mention that he felt more relaxed after performing a few songs. I sent you a link to another one of Elvis' performances on The Milton Berle Show, in your comments section on your last reaction of Heartbreak Hotel. I mentioned a few things you should look out for during that performance, which many reactors don't seem to notice when they watch it. I also mentioned about Elvis' twin brother in that comments section. Please would you check out the comment. I'm sure you would enjoy the performance I linked. Audio is good too. Thank you so much.

I am numbering my comments so I can keep track of what I am trying to say. Don’t read anything negative into it. 1. I am sure Elvis was terrified. This was the very first satellite show ever. It was broadcast to countries all over the world. It has been reported that a billion people saw this show. The possibility of technical issues were real. The producers had filmed a few performances just in case. He , also, could not stop if he made a mistake. During the 70s he had no problem starting a song over if the band or he messed something up. On one Las Vegas performance he famously made the band stat over. Elvis in front of the audience: Hey, we got to act like we know what we are doing. Led Zeppelin is in the audience. 2. Because this was being broadcast to countries with different societal standards, things had to be a little bit toned down. 3. Elvis’ style changed in the 70s as music had changed. The Rolling Sones, Three Dog Night, etc were what was popular. People expected a more mature Elvis. 4. Elvis did still move around on stage, but he had moved to karate type movements and pelvis thrust that left nothing to the imagination. 5. Elvis didn’t particularly like this song. For whatever reason, he had a difficult time remembering the lyrics. He played it because he knew the audiences loved it. 6. You have to watch Suspicious Minds live in Las Vegas. That’s where you will see the movement.

It was also said that he went on a strict 500 caloric intake a day diet to loose 25 lbs before doing this concert which also can add to why his energy was low during certain songs. Now add the nerves in of possibly forgetting the words to this song which wasn’t his favorite and having over a billion people watching him.

The show's producer, Marty Pasetta, went to see Elvis live in Vegas before this production. He told Elvis that your music is great but you don't do anything. Elvis laughed. Marty then had the idea of the iconic light show for Aloha which gave the show some movement. It's interesting to watch the pre show press conference footage. In one, Elvis is medicated, in the other, in Hawaii, he seems very reserved. Contrast that with his New York press interview a few months earlier where he is on top form. 1973 was a turning point for Elvis. He became more inward. IMO.

Jane H commenting …. Because this concert was being beamed to 36 countries around the globe, Elvis had been told that he had to do a more subdued performance, because he was obviously going to be seen by different cultures & religions. He was told he could not do anything that could be deemed offensive, so that is probably the main reason his performance appears to be ‘tame’. He would not wanted to have been condemned by the Pope, as then he would have lost a lot of European fans, & if this was televised in Albania & Serbia, which were Moslem countries, he could not afford to offend them, so he was quite restrained in what he could do, but his voice really did rise to the occasion. Elvis did all of his own musical arrangements, & if you watch An American Trilogy in this Hawaiian 1973 concert, you will see a stirringly patriotic performance, one of his best to my mind, as the song combines three Dixieland tributes, & Elvis was from the South. Another song I enjoy from this concert is You Gave Me A Mountain, & Steamroller Blues is another good one. If you want to see a much more active Elvis the 1970 Las Vegas performances of Suspicious Minds & Polk Salad Annie will give you a good view of an athletic, playful Elvis, who was also very good at changing the words in one or two lines of lyrics of songs like Are You Lonesome Tonight & also Suspicious Minds in those 1970 Las Vegas performances …. & if you really want to see how different things were back then for someone of a superstar status like Elvis, compared with today, take a look at his Love Me Tender performance in that 1970 Las Vegas concert.

I believe he probably was toned down in this concert because at the time it was the largest audience ever. The first ever live world wide by satellite. Right after this concert, he recorded 5 extra songs for the record album and he was still in great condition after the concert. Look up the song "Early Morning Rain" by Elvis. this was in 1973 in 4 years he would be dead. He was not well and was determined to perform anyway, as I have mentioned before he Had Alpha 1 gene, as researched by journalist Sally Hoedel, "Destined to Die Young". His mothers parents were first cousins, no body even knew what the disease was back then. He inherited a double gene as did his mother who died at 46 and her two brothers who also died in their 40's. Elvis was 42 and had the same conditions which killed his mother, heart disease, Liver disease, lung problems. Elvis was born with a twisted colon in 1935, his identical twin was still born. He never got medical attention they were too poor during the great depression. He never wanted his fans to know he had health problems and never talked about them. In 1969 he had emergency surgery to save his right eye from early onset glaucoma. The glasses were necessary . He did take dexatrine in the Army along with the guys on night duty. the heavy pain killers really were used in the last 4 years of his life. He had a heart attack in 1975 as referenced by his hair dresser Larry Geller who witnessed it and Elvis grabbed his arm and said, dont tell anyone. His liver was failing and he began to look ghostly and bloated. Toxins were not being filtered properly out of his body. when Elvis died of a heart attack on Aug 16, 1977, his father requested the autopsy be sealed to 2026. His personal doctor said that 9 of his 11 bodily systems were blocked. Elvis told his grandma the night before he died that he had to go to his engagement in main and felt bad but everyone was depending on him. Thanks, learn true history

He also never liked this song. He was getting towards the beginning of the end and he seemed to enjoy the big ballads and gospel songs rather than the rockers.

Elvis was always concerned he would forget the lyrics to Burning Love. Given the significance of this concert, on show for the whole world to see, added that extra bit of pressure. Also, this was only the 2nd song of the concert so he had not quite settled in yet. Finally, I’m not sure Elvis was ever super comfortable performing this song …….. he was very reluctant to record it in the studio in the first instance and really needed to be talked into it by those around him. Not one of my favourite Elvis songs for that reason.
