@@kristinaswilleyy and yet Michael Jackson hated him a lot. He said the media only played his stuff cos he was white and everyone didn't get screen time and said he was gonna prove he is bigger than Elvis. Yet he only became the King of Pop and Elvis still remains the King of Rock. And comparing a artist who didn't even do a world tour vs Michael Jackson who did and could get a bigger audience is something. If Elvis would gone around the world he would've gotten more fans. Pretty much everything Jackson did was stuff he copied from guys like Bill Bailey. Tap dancing and soft shoe bits he mixed in with "modern" dance choreography. I grew up watching musicals with my grandparents, and saw Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr and Fred Astaire do a lot of very similar, and even more impressive, stuff. So I never found Jackson's dancing particularly impressive.

Another great one from the king! RIP Elvis gone 42 years ago today 8/16/1977.... He has been gone the same number of years he was on this earth and yet right now at his home Graceland in Memphis there is hundreds of thousands of fans from all over the world there paying their respects with the annual candlelight vigil and celebration of his life that they call Elvis Week! I dont know of any other entertainer that has had the type of impact on the world to get that type of love for so long and still gaining popularity with the younger generations coming along, its amazing to think about really! And actually I said entertainer but idk if I can think of another person that has had the effect Elvis has on the world.
@marciadiehl57335 жыл бұрын
I mentioned the same thing above in response to a different post. It is eerie that Elvis has been dead now as long as he was alive. I was 21 when he passed away. I grew up watching all his movies that they would show on TV during that time. I went to one of his performances when he was touring in 1973...and unforgettable experience. After Elvis passed away, I went out and bought many of his records at a record store. They were selling like hotcakes after he died. Radio stations were playing his recordings back to back constantly for many days after he died and his funeral. One year after he passed, I drove to Memphis and hung out at the front gate of Graceland for two or three days where there were a few fans to pay their respects. Everyone of us there at that time were not able to go the year before to see Elvis in his coffin to pay our respects (the family allowed the fans that were gathered there to view Elvis's body). So I felt compelled to go on the one year anniversary of his death. Elvis and his mother had been moved to Graceland as months before an attempt had been made to steal his body at the original burial site. We were allowed on August 16, 1978 to go inside the gate to pay our respects to Elvis's grave thanks to his cousin who was a gate guard. Those of us at the gate became friendly with him and we asked if we could lay flowers on Elvis's grave. The family wasn't allowing anyone to view the grave at that time except family members and close friends. So his cousin spoke to Vernon on our behalf and he allowed us to walk up to the grave and the rest is history. Afterwards, visitors were allowed to to the gravesite and then Priscilla eventually allowed fans to go inside and take tours of the home. I have not been back to Graceland since I got to be one of the first to pay my respects back in 1978. However, I would like to think that I helped to pave the way for the millions that have come after me so they could visit Graceland. I will never forget Vernon's generosity to our little group of fans that year. May he, Elvis, and Gladys RIP.

@@marciadiehl5733 wow that's awesome. I wasn't born until 1979 so I never got to experience a time where Elvis was alive but it's funny I remember as a kid seeing his movies and tv specials on tv all the time and not just 2 days a year like they mostly do now so I never really realized that he was dead until I was about 7 or 8 and I was watching one of the shows with me dad and asked if he ever came near us could we go see him and that's when I learned that he had died in 1977 and the whole story with that. And because I was introduced to his music as a baby and had became such a big fan I was devastated when I found out. It's crazy really, but I dont remember hearing hardly any other music from my childhood until I was old enough to start finding my own radio stations and watching MTV and that's when I started listening to other music of the 80's like Guns n Rose's, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Def Lepperd and others that were gaining popularity at the time but Elvis was the music I came to love and his music it still my favorite to this day, even though I listen to all kinds of music nothing seems to affect me the way Elvis does
@marciadiehl57335 жыл бұрын
@@rwieber79 I can completely understand and sympathize. I was born in 1956...the breakout year where Elvis gained national and then international fame. So I truly became aware of Elvis when they would occasionally show one of his movies during the 1960's on TV. I actually got to go to the theater and see four of his later movies when they hit the theaters: Speedway, Change of Habit, Trouble With Girls, and Charro. Like yourself, I grew up when music was changing FAST thanks to the British invasion starting with the Beatles. When Elvis started cranking out some really great tunes in the late 60's, I became a real fan. When he passed away, I felt like I had let him slip away from me because I had become engrossed in newer performers and bands. The great thing about KZfaq is that I can go back and watch his performances and recapture or in some ways...discover him all over again. Great to see some younger generations going back to earlier artists and appreciating their music and talents.

Yes Elvis has moves and it was back in the 50's of last century :) They were considered so controversial, that they told TV to show him only from waist up and his concerts were watched by police :) I believe white puritan America just was not ready for black ekspression, because everything what Elvis did he borrowed from black people and brought it to the mainstream :) Thanks and waiting for part 2 - greetings from Poland - Karolina

So I really wanted to catch up on my KZfaq‘s. You have a new subscriber and a new fan! You’re so kind to indulge us. I’m 45 so I wasn’t around for the Elvis days but like I said my mom was lucky enough.... back then they were dinner concerts she was lucky enough to go 2 times. Elvis grew up in what my mom said is called a shotgun house it’s basically just one room. He was very poor and all he had was one pair of jeans and one pair of shoes and he was picked on a lot at school for it. Once he became a star he said he would never wear jeans again and he never did. He associated that with being poor, it was a trigger. Not that you’re poor if you wear jeans. The dance he did was named the pin wheel. You can see it in his younger yrs doing Hound Dog.

I'm enjoying these Elvis flashbacks. I was 5 when he passed away, but I've always been a fan. If you get a chance, and it doesn't get blocked, look up, Come on Everybody by Elvis with Ann Margaret. It's a good interactive foot tapping tune too.

I love watching your reactions. Have you heard his version of the Righteous Bros. You've Lost that Loving Feeling? I know you'll love it. Find the video if his opening night in Vegas, 1970.

Shirley did you hear that pricella is producing a Netflix adult cartoon about Elvis. Its called agent king or something. I fear it will make a joke out of his legacy.

My mom played so many Elvis records, she drug my dad, my 3 younger brothers and I to the latest Elvis movies, after a while my brothers and I were tired of Elvis. Now that I'm in my 60's, I can listen to him without rolling my eyes saying not again.

Elvis was the first of his time. He even spoke about being " blessed beyond this world ." And his closing theme was " 2001, A Space odyssey. " was used throughout his 70's shows. He passed away on August 16, 1977, and added up, 9+16+1977=2001. He truly was a gift from another world

When this clip from the film was first shown in 1957, people lost their minds. Not only was it the first rock'n''roll video, but it is also very amusing indeed. Note the old lags hanging from the posts! As for Elvis himself, what more can you say? The template for every male vocalist. He had it all:- the looks, the voice, the hair, and THOSE moves. Unlike today, no young parent would name their son after Elvis back then. No one would dare to take the King's name in vain........

And that was from the 50s man no one was doing that in the 50s no white performer anyway the beginning of his reign as the king

Elvis once said in an interview (about his '68 comeback special) that the music and moves were in his body, he couldn't help but dance. That's why it was so difficult to choreograph around him because no one knew what he was going to do. Even him.
