My mom saw him in Philadelphia 1974.. My father wasn't a fan of Elvis he bought tickets for Mom.. Mom apparently did nothing but cry watching her teen idol..But Elvis put on such a great performance.. My Dad came away a huge fan. I remember dad saying Elvis put on such a great performance. Already, you are one of the best commentators I have heard on Elvis. You really pick up on all Elvis embodied-he was music incarnate. He always viewed his voice, talent as a gift from God that he had a responsibility to make people happy with…which is why I think he was humble. He also saw his stage performance as a total collaboration-it was “we” never “me”. He would always tell his backup singers and musicians thank you for letting me share a stage with you-especially his dear friend JD Stamps, who sang base, and was a dear friend from back when Elvis was 14 years old.

Good reaction to Elvis, thank you, Elvis's favorite music was Gospel music and loved to sing it, check out this song he made his own and loved to sing called "How Great Thou Art" 1977, very powerful even though this was his last concert, and he was in pain and very tired, his faith pulled him through, he never lost that legendary voice, thanks again.

He recorded Suspicious Mind at American Sound studios in Memphis in January 1969. It was his first #1 in quite a few years. You are spot on when you said he conducted everyone on that stage. In many interviews his musician pointed out that they had to watch Elvis’ every move for the cues for what he wanted his musicians to do.

People were not really asking you to react to this song. It was to get your reaction to Elvis himself. The energy, the stage performance, the charisma, the vocals and finally to his looks. Always a reaction to the King himself!

In those days going to a Vegas show was suite and tie as though you were at the opera. He was directing the band. He'd been doing Vegas in the 50's, as he said it was 3 shows a night in the lounge. I believe the black singers were Sweet Sensation with Sissy Houston. He'd lose weight on each performance, twice a night.

The orchestra is The Joe Guercio Orchestra which comprised of approx. 25 or 30 musicians, not counting his band. Regards the audience, yes they were not kids, but you have to remember this was a different time when people, even kids were more well behaved; even screaming teenagers just screamed & jumped up & down & didn't do much more than that.

I seen Him in 1974 when I was in 4th grade and seen Him again in 1976 and I've been the biggest fan since.The band follows His lead and They had that down to a T esp the drummer Ronnie Tut.Thats why He is in 5 Hall Of F ames and sold over 1.5 billion records and recorded over 750 songs. Did you notice he was wearing the Concho jumpsuit but @ very end he was in the Chain suit w-brown leather tabs -- I guess MGM thought no one would notice. It is August 1970 & is one of the performances filmed by MGM & on a DVD entitled "That's The Way It Is" also known as TTWII; filmed over 6 different performances in the Main Lounge of the International Hotel in Vegas. He had the best of the best -- singers, band, orchestra -- an amazing group. BACKGROUND INFO: Written by Mark James in '68, it is based on one night when James was fooling around on his guitar & came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James' wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."

You should checkout the 1968 comeback special. He channels that voice and magentism through that black leather suit he was born to wear. I find the vegas years hard to watch knowing how he was enslaved to col tom the fraud. Elvis was 1 in a billion talent, he was desperate to grow and travel with his music and band. I don’t mind you talking through it, or even stopping & starting it, but it’s not great when it’s fast forwarded in two or three spots, especially as this is a performance considered to be iconic, & was even included in the new Elvis movie. Elvis was actually at his peak in the early Vegas period. He was performing incredibly well, physically, vocally, emotionally, & mentally. It’s in his latter Vegas period 1975 when he was suffering from clinical depression, due to his decline in health, leading to weight gain, & 1976 & 77, leading up to his death, that some people show just how cruel human beings can really be. You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling in 1970 Las Vegas, is a great performance …. Also, another athletic action performance is Polk Salad Annie in 1970 Las Vegas …. & there are some wonderful performances in the Aloha from Hawaii 1973 Live Concert, such as My Way & You Gave Me A Mountain.
