In those days most singer entertainers did not write their music. Many had writers do that for them. Parker had Elvis under the umbrella of RCA and movie contracts. He had all the resources of these corporations to write material. He did not need to write music. Elvis was more of a producer as he was in chargee in the studio, selected his support people, musicians etc and ran the show in rehearsals and how he wanted the music to present itself. He did an amazing work in that area, and it rarely gets noted.

It is true that Elvis never wrote a song during his entire career, but he did have some songs that were written just for him. For example; Suspicious Minds. Mac Davis wrote both 'In The Ghetto' and 'Don't Cry Daddy' specifically for Elvis. American Trilogy, my most favorite song, was also written specifically for Elvis. If you really listen to the first verse, it is about his own beginning. Mississippi was considered "Dixie" country and being that Elvis was born on January 8th of 1935, the song is about him being born, "In Dixie Land, I Was Born, Early Lord, One Frosty Morn" It is a three part song, hence the name, American Trilogy. Trilogy meaning three! Please correct me, if I have left any songs out that were written specifically for Elvis to record. TCB always!

Elvis could not read music. He did not write any songs. He covered songs that he liked, that meant something to him and expressed how he felt. Singer/song writer Mac Davis wrote 4 songs for Elvis, and If I Can Dream was written for him as well. Every song Elvis sang he did in his own style and made many of these songs his own. Elvis' voice is probably the most imitated, but there will never be anyone like Elvis. It wasn't just his voice, but his looks, his clothing, style, personality, sense of humor, humblenees and ability to command the stage. He was the whole package. He never wanted to disappoint his audience or his fans. He always gave 150%. You can't take your eyes off of him when he's on stage. The consulate performer, needing no distractions on stage. The older I get, the more I appreciate Elvis.

I'm not sure why this always is emphasized regarding Elvis. Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift are some other artists that couldn't/can't read or write music. They still wrote songs. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Cocker, Karen Carpenter, Roy Hamilton, Sammy Davis Jr, Dusty Springfield, Perry Como, Tony Bennett are some other singers that didn't write their own songs. Like many artists back then Elvis had a team of professional songwriters, and many of the songs were his original recordings, other songs were covers.

You would have to know how musicians worked in the 50's. Frank Sinatra all were encouraged to use union songwriters. He signed with RCA who had a writers bank that send songs to him. He did start with songs he knew but the writing your own songs and singing them was never encouraged then. Many country singers did that and were thought to be corny. That was the practice and when Elvis got famous, writers from all over the world wanted him to sing their song, because they became instant hits. Funny this one performance was actually a dress rehearsal for the satilite world performance which was for chartity , A Cancer fund. He went back and watch playback of this rehearsal footage and had his hair dresser cut an inch off his hair. Thanks, will you react to a song which is the audio studio recording, "Without Love" (there is nothing". So beautiful . I appreciate you

The song is sadly quite tragic -- his woman left him and that turns his world upside down, "there's the sky where the sea should be", strips him of his heart and soul, destroys him to the point of suicide. "No one cares if I live or die, nothing left but my last good bye"... damn.

It has been well documented that many artists wrote songs specifically for Elvis to sing. It became a win/win for Elvis and the writer. But, once Elvis had the song, he did it his way. Elvis deserves the recognition as a composer, he knew exactly what do do with a song to turn it into a hit.

Although ELVIS was not a songwriter, he never just sang a song either. Previously you stated "Everything about the man screams music" and I agree. I think his early childhood exposure to the music around him invoked strong emotional feelings & a connection to music which continued to resonate internally throughout his life. Elvis had an intrinsic ability to hear a composition, zero in on the raw emotional energy it invoked and draw it all in. This was portrayed so well by Austin Butler in the movie ELVIS. (SEE CLIP BELOW) For those of us lucky enough to see Elvis perform live, on stage, the ELVIS magic was like he really did channel all that raw emotion in, only to release it on stage; a projection & transferrance of raw emotional energy that he drew in and poured out on stage so his audience could feel the emotion too. That's the magic or "something deep" within Elvis". His sincerity, desire & rare ability to emotionally connect with us all. ⏬️ watch⏬️ m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iq14jKRlvpnJhmQ.html#bottom-sheet

Elvis took songs and make them his own. His version is always different. And most of artists at that era did not. There were songwriters. Sadly today too many artists try to make good songs and fail. Best artists/songwriters lack usually not always good songs. Elvis has around 800 songs what u can react. It could not be possible if he would have been also songwriter. He of course influnce many of his songs was also making few of them but did not really write them.

You weren't wrong when you thought this song was about a lost love, either by a break-up or by death but more than that, it is also about a man contemplating Suicide, because he doesn't want to go on without the woman he loves. Elvis just seemed to be able to tap into the emotion and meaning of the songs he chose to sing and make you feel what he was feeling, It was his Super Power! Some of the songs he sang were written by writers and friends that knew him well and wrote songs specifically for him. ❤ When he sang this song, He and His Wife were going through a Divorce. After getting out of his movie contracts, he said he would never perform a song he didn’t believe in again. Thanks for showing this, this was the rehearsal concert. After EP watched this back, he thought his hair was too long so he had it cut for the broadcast concert. It is so common for artists to sing songs they haven't written. Funny how everyone comments about Elvis, like he is the only one that ever did this 😂. Same thing with his medication use, he has been pilloried for that (and indeed it is only recently that his medical history of disease is being understood). How many other singers/actors have OD'd? It's like Elvis is held to a higher standard than every other artist. I think it's unfair and I'll never understand it.

This was in a period of his career at a younger age where even though younger than the Aloha Hawaii concert you can see and hear the differences in his voice but still the passion and force he had and charisma when he sang any song. It was always like thru his career that each song he did with his style was like it was his own song.

Makes sense… just like a great actor who didn’t write the script but interprets the story from deep within themselves. A writer once wrote that Elvis was the greatest interpreter of the American songbook. . I believe it.

The original French version, "Et maintenant" (English: "And Now") was written in 1961 by composer Gilbert Bécaud and lyricist Pierre Delanoë - some of the singers who recorded this song were Jane Morgan, Shirley Bassey and Ben E. King. Any song that Elvis covered became his. This was the rehearsal show before the one which was aired 2 days later. Never stop getting chills every time I watch it. Suggestions: The water throwing incident from '72 Hampton Roads when at the very, very start of the video Elvis called out “Please Release Me” but the band began playing “I Can’t Stop Loving You” - he didn’t stop them, he went right into the song, he then walked over to his glass of water, picked it up & playfully threw it at Glen @ piano -- a real fun, energetic, powerhouse kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grSkg5h4yZ61d3k.html -- make sure you hear him say Please Release Me @ extreme beginning; also note the little irritated look on his face @ beginning. 2 from '68 stand-up segment: "Blue Suede Shoes" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9FlfqiTzp6ykZc.html (the longer version from sitting to center stage w-his wonderful finish (2:50 min.). "Jailhouse Rock" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bp1-abSSlaqbe40.html (1:50 min.). This is Elvis unleashed doing what he did best in his 2-piece black leather. You could do both - one followed by the other since they total just 4 min. long. Btw, your voice is so low -- I have my volume all the way up. Thx.

i believe this is from the rehearsal show, which was opened to the public paying offcourse, my reason is after the show, elvis complained that he did not like his hair as it was eg the fringe. check the aloha version to see the diffrence
