How to plan a trip around the world by motorcycle, ever wondered how people do it, just take off & live the dream by traveling around the world? In this vid I'll show you how to plan a trip around the world by motorcycle, giving you hints & tips about route planning, visas, what to take, how to ship, & lots more.
I get asked all the time about how you go about even planning an adventure like this, so I've decided to do a vid series on just that. I'll break it all down into easy steps with lots of practical tips on where to find more info, & what to ask. In this episode I cover the actual planning of your around the world trip by motorcycle, but in the next episode we'll cover how to work out your budget, with a few ideas on how to match it thrown in!

I just got onto your channel and story. I bought your book on Kindle. I love the story. It’s cool because I tour on my gixxer and some days are long. When I saw you went around the world I thought this guy is a bad ass tough guy. One gixxer. I couldn’t believe it. Suzuki giving you the cold shoulder pisses me off. Anyway, cool thing. I would like to learn and hear more from you on the topic route planning, border crossings and shipping. Can you learn us how you planned your route in your satnav: e.g. what were your discissions to take a certain route and what about the routes which are not on the map (if you had that). Border crossings: e.g. how does it work, what forms do you have to fill in/have with you, any tactics for smooth crossings? 😊

Ok, a lot of these topics like route planning etc there isn’t really any set way to physically come up with the route, you just decide where you want to go and... go. But I can certainly cover route planning into a satnav, and cover the general border process etc. Will take me a few weeks but I’ll get them done for you 👍

teapotone teapotone I know ha ha. I Need to look more into costs I’m fine with a certain amount but I have just put together a cost for kit I need and that’s high. From what I’ve seen on costs of being on the road that bits fine. It’s the equipment cost on top that’s making me slightly wince.

It’s early days as I’ve not been able to get out in the field with it recently, but just testing it indoors, the most recent firmware update seems to have settled most of the reliability issues. I’m hoping to use it to film the next part of this series actually.

Like wise a world tour but it will be in stages . Headed to the top of Norway, Finland , Sweden a couple years ago and got the bug . Next trip will be a loop of Italy and Croatia . Real life gets in the way at the moment . If you are Devon way feel free to look me up for a place to stay

Man you did that trip on a sportbike!? I don't think most people have any idea how much of a savage you are. I did a couple of 15,000 mile trips in SA and SE Asia on a KLR and thought i was rugged... You must be a complete animal brother 😂 Thanks for the videos!

Hi Hepcat, I’d do it all again if money wasn’t an issue for sure. But it was a once in a lifetime thing for me, I literally sold everything and put all I had into the trip, so I’m still paying it off to this day - totally worth it though. If I decided to go again, I’d do the same general route but more like my original plan which included Africa, the Middle East, Kazak and Mongolia, as well as India, Nepal etc - pretty much the entire planet actually! I was gutted to not do Mongolia as that is somewhere I’ve wanted to ride to ever since seeing the Long Way Round. Unfortunately the bike frame broke again about a day’s ride from the Russian border with Mongolia, so I made the decision to miss it out and carry on East to Vladivostok. Basically, once you’re out of Europe, there are ways and means to pretty much do anything and go anywhere. You just have to know who to deal with, be able to cover the price, and exercise a great deal of common sense regarding who you tell about it! 😉

yes that bleddy subframe, still I doubt any bike would go full circle without problems, so much diversity with substrates. Hope you get out there again, I can tell you want to. At 56 and creaking like a Hammerhouse movie door I feel it's too late for me but you go right ahead and I'll stay here and watch the marvellous footage :)

Ha Ha, Ah c’mon Hepcat, don’t admit defeat!!!! The warmth of the sun when you’re lying in your tent on desert sands is just the best nights kip you can have! I really suffer with my joints but loved sleeping on the warm sand, I felt great in the morning 👍

Hepcat Harley you are never to old mate, I am 57 and will be in my 60s buy the time I get the chance to go, live the dream. There is a guy that rode the BAM and road of bones with Walter of Sibirsky extreme on a f650 BMW, he was 67, age is not the issue if you have the desire. Think positive.

I got an international driving licence but it was never an issue, I just showed my UK one whenever I was asked. No dramas at all 👍

Insurance is only an issue in a few countries. Some African countries use it as a means to make you spend more at the border, Australia was strict on purchasing insurance on import, as were a couple of other places. But the vast majority of places just let me in either with no insurance, or it was just included amongst the various paperwork you complete at each border point. It really isn’t a problem for most places.

It was this morning my other half was watching Employable Me on BBC 2 catch up and there was this guy on who had had a stroke and was considering inspirational speaking. My wife explained he was well into bikes and was called Andy Ibbot then it came back to me that I knew of him from journalism.
