I recommend everything you say as usual. I retired twenty years ago, but with some part time work to boost my pension I have been able make long trips every year. My wife doesn't mind me going away because I keep coming back. I have travelled in 60 countries on five continents. Sometimes I find it easier to source a different type of motorcycle in different countries rather than take my own though.

Hi Pavlin, You are absolutely right, and agree with you, from the financial side is easier to plan a long trip. For me is more the problem the time, which is not really mentioned in this video. Long motorcycle trips over a month needs in an ideal case (with bank holidays and your yearly holiday) at least 15-18 days off from work. Depending on which country you live, and how many days your employer offers you as a paid holiday, this number days off could be not really enough to manage all your holiday needs in a whole year (family holidays & motorcycle trips & 1-2 days unexpected ones). Yes, if you are an employee, this can be a difficult question, how to plan your paid holidays with your dream. And yes, you could ask for unpaid holidays too. If you are self-employed this could be a bit different, but for that you have to establish your business first. So time-wise I would say I could „afford“ 2-2,5 weeks (paid) off, and maybe this is a more realistic case for a rider, who has 25 days paid holidays, a family, and other duties too. Very wise point of view Pavlin. Last yr I travelled in canada for 12 days crossing most of canada. I planned on camping half the trip and hotel the other half. I finished the trip having stayed in a hotel only once and camped the rest of the time. What is my point? I realized that I enjoyed camping a lot more than hotels and at the same time it was nice coming in way under budget. Let me share my experience as well. I'm 43 years old and 2 years ago I the first time in my life seat on a motorcycle. After two months I got my motorcycle license and after 12 more months, I go on my first long trip. It was a solo 6500km trip across Europe (mostly Balkan) and it was absolutely amazing (I've also published a video on my channel if you are interested). This year I found a way how to combine my motorcycle adventures with my family. I just bought them plane tickets to the point in the middle of my trip, where we will spend together one week. And after they flight away to home and I'll continue my adventures. That's the plan how to combine adventures with family ;) So nothing is impossible guys! if you want you can do it!

With us, it is different. I have to convince my husband to do an adventure with me. With my daughter, it is no problem. But he is a bit hesitant (although I consider him a much better rider than me). We do not intend to visit the whole world, Germany and maybe a bit outside is enough right now. We will start little by little, not too much at the beginning. Maybe he will catch the fire...if not, it is also okay for me. You have to make compromises in a relationship.

I am a Service Technician that travels around for my company and I subscribe to your 50€ a day number. Of course its a lot easier if someone else pays for the hotels but being away for some time from home is something truly awesome. During the summer I was able to go to sweden for 2 months and able to explore the region on the weekends. I found several places during work trips where I want to return to with my motorcycle

This video and the message just strikes home. This is exactly what a lot of my followers ask me, and I tell them exactly the same thing, but didn't make a video about it! Thank you. I'm sharing this with my community.

My only problem is coming back from that long trip. If the trip is very long, say, one year, I will loose my business, clients. So... no money for living. Setting money aside for a long trip is not an issues for me, depending of the sum I need, it's only a matter of time, as it is for mostly everyone. But, beeing on the road for a really long time will hurt my business in a way that I'll have to more or less, restart it. I don't have kinds, and my wife is going with me in all motorcycle trips. At least I got that part covered :)

My dream was always I'm going to get myself a bike and finally 6 months ago I passed my provisional and got my 125cc just for the commute and to get the experience. But I have always has this idea of traveling long distance on the bike, currently I'm getting my full motorcycle license and hopefully I can start traveling in Europe first and then moving toward east. Thank you for sharing your point of view and on the advise on how to plan it and get it done.

So right Pavlin! It's always a matter of choices. When I tell people I spend 550 euros in a 20 day jouney througout India in 2018, nobody believes it, but it is true! Of course I skiped 5 star hotels and Michelin star restaurants ;)

Great advice Pavlin, I only have one but to add to that, you still need to have the extra cash to do it. Depending on your living situation, if you live with parents not a problem, if you live by yourself and have a mortgage or are renting those costs go on, electricity, water and gas supply charges are still added on, the actual cost of the trip is not that great it is on going costs at home that add up and for the time away you have no income. I am not saying don’t do a trip but it is something to allow for when you plan a budget, no good having a great trip then only to get home and have the mailbox full of bills and not having the money to pay them. Just because you are not using something the bank or the landlord still want you to pay.

I just become a licenced motorcyclist in 2019. My wife is not motorcyclist, however she supported me a lot and helped me to choose the motorcycle and approved the budget with a big smile. I return i never leave her alone with the kids for long trip, she come with me or i don't move. One day when kids will grow up we will go together for a long trip on summer. 😍

YOU can't afford not to ride that trip you've thought about, life is very short. Sure you need some basic funds but taking the time is much more valuable. I was actually encouraged by my son to the 6 week 12.500 mile ride to Alaska after planning for several years. Best move ever. 👌

Pavlin, this is one of the few videos where I disagree. First of all, you are right. When travelling in Central Asia, for example, about 15 to 20 Euros a day are enough. Including fuel, hostel & food. But when you take all the costs into the calculation it is much more expensive. Visa, Mandatory guides (China), Insurance, Motorbike maintenance (more km, more maintenance) and - in my case because I only had 2 month time - shipping the bike back & taking a plane myself sums up to about 8500 Euros / 8 weeks. Without China - guide, shipment & flight it would be half of the amount....

We still have to support our family and afford a trip that’s hard . Thanks 🇨🇦👍

This review was made to order! Thanks Pavlin. I am hoping you would tolerate an unrelated question that is particularly relevant to this long time gen 2 KLR 650 rider?? My 2013 KLR (30000 km) has been a great bike on many levels. However, it’s equally “great” fault is the unhappy combination of seat height and top heavy weight distribution. I am 180 cm tall and have dropped this bike many times.......just nursing a bruised ribcage now because of the latest misadventure. I have simultaneously owned a 2015 Super Tenere (64 kg more than the KLR) yet in its 19000 km have never dropped it???? So here is my question: Given your Australian experience on the same model of KLR, your long time ownership of the Tenere 660, and your limited experience on the new Tenere 700, how would you compare these 3 bikes strictly with respect to the issue of the centre of gravity and thus, the relative ease of keeping them on their “feet”. the question that rises in my mind is how in the world can i afford to leave for two weeks, let alone a full month? since if i stop working im done...travel does require not just money but time, lots of time. so we know that we convert time into financial resources (work), it looks like is either one or the other. having a personal business is the worst of all since ive seen people that took this path and if they stop working the business stops too, they have to be at that restaurant, hotel, whatever they do constantly. As a regulard corporate worker, money might come but you can not leave for long periods of time. Currently in moto school and after buying my touring moto im also thinking on how to begin with Europe. The hole Planet?! haha, maybe at retirement. but taking it step by step EU being the closest and affordable from both time and money perspective.(not all of it at once though id be leaving my home for a full season on 2 wheels) I dont know how some people do it but its good to see its possible.

When I was on my travels, my daily budget, fuel, parts, oil, travel, food etc, was calculated and I broke it down into daily amounts. I NEVER went over my daily budget. In fact, if something needed four days money for example, I would stay put for four days. I guess that sounds ridiculous,but for me, if I’d broken my rule once, I would have broken it again. That being said however, it only came to that once. Most times I was way under budget, so the excess for that day was carried over to the next. When I came home three years later I had underspent significantly, which was a great position to be in, but I did lose a wife in the process…..(not dead, just gone)

Thanks for all your all valuable advices... I am inspired by many of you great bikers to go around the countries where I can afford my trip. But started dreaming to bike around since last June 2020 though I don’t have even a bike license. But because of wish and determination I booked to have training and test for a learning license on this coming 28 October. Very excited 😆! Then thinking to buy a bike that will me around Australia by this time next year. I am looking for one or two like-minded to see the wonderfulness of Australia on bike, but most probably it seems it will be a solo adventurous bike packing. Could you give me a good bike that could take me around considering all Australia dessert, otherwise roads here are mostly good?
