I think it's great. If you took all that machine does into individual items you would lose a lot of shop space. Emco products are new to me as I've never owned one till now. Thanks for sharing. Love seeing tools ive never seen before.

A very nice acquisition. Looks like you could just replace those long rails with a couple of pieces of short bar stock to make a more compact unit until the lathe parts can be found ...

That is a great find, Paul. The quality of the Emco Star is very good, and the versatility is amazing - great for shops with space limitations. You can use it to make patterns to cast the missing foot and tailstock 😁 Blessings from South Africa.

Hello Russel, Thank you, although I have a reasonable amount of space at the moment I will have to downsize in the next couple of years when my mate retires so I am trying to have machines that will fit in a smaller space. Very nice multi-purpose machine. I was thumbing through my copy of Antique Tools & Machinery by C.H. Wendell the other day and discovered the section on multi-purpose wood working machines from over 100 years ago. Quite fascinating reading. I have a similar machine to yours except mine is a combination belt/disc sander. I use it every day. Thanks for sharing Paul!

Hi Paul. What an amazing machine, I've never seen one of those before. IMHO a belt sander is an essential tool in any workshop and you should find that alone very useful. Not sure if you intend to use the bandsaw to cut metal but be aware that metal cutting bandsaws run much slower than wood cutting ones. Cheers, Alan.

Looks like quite a well built multi function machine . You might be able to find a saw blade to cut small section aluminium instead of wood . 👍

Nice Paul. Neat machine. Reminds me of a shop smith but much higher quality. Get you some green zirconia sanding discs, they work great on metal and last 4x longer. All the best! Eddie

Beautiful machine, Paul, and all the more so with its handsome gold livery. It's a bit like the Coronet Major in terms of its multifunctionality, though I suspect not as old as the Coronet. While it's always nice to find the complete item, there's also something great about working on and developing a partial machine - a real invitation to creativity! Best of luck with it. gary

Fascinating little machine, I haven't used any Emco machinery but it sounds like they tried to make a number of multipurpose machines. The scroll saw setup looks intriguing as a possible basis for doing die filing, depending on how fast it runs.

Hello Everett, The designers at Emco seem to be very good as many of their classic machines are very old... the build quality does appear to be good and a good endorsement of that is Stefan Gotteswinter using an Emco lathe. Hi Paul, its a mitre guide, should be easy enough to make the tailstock base and tailstocks do crop up on ebay ,its a Swiss army knife !

Hello Paul, that’s an interesting EMCO item. I had no idea these multi-purpose machines existed - perhaps they weren’t exported to the States. As others have commented, the band saw blade speed will have to be reduced; Mr. Pete has a number of videos on the subject. Enjoy the new helper!

Wow, what an amazingly versatile machine Paul. I never knew Emco made such a thing, but I expect these were mainly sold in Europe. What's with all the red buckets in the background ? Got a water leak ? I expect the Emco would have/is missing a right hand ways base mount, travelling tailstock and a tool rest. Be nice to get the originals, but should be do-able to make them. Hello Rob, The buckets are to collect the condensation that I get during the winter months... it is not a crazy amount but nevertheless quite annoying... Since making the video I have purchased a few of the missing bits and will continue looking for the others. I may make some temporary parts and replace them with original at a later date. Take care. That is a very cool tool Paul, I am a fan of Emco tools, but never knew this existed until now. When I first saw it at the start of the video I thought to myself "that looks very like a Unimat." I was right! Now I have some research to do. 👍I don't think these were ever imported to the USA?

Don't know anything about that particular machine though combination machines used to be quite common. I have a cousin with an American equivelent (A Shopsmith Mk V). Interesting machine.

Dad bought one of those about 40 years ago. A very cool looking machine and can do a lot of things. Sadly it does none of those things well. Sorry Paul but it was rubbish and only lasted a year before getting left in a corner where the roof leaked. 😂 I reckon with a few mods it could be improved tho. Still a good score just for the condition tho mate. 👍

What a great piece of kit! I assume you won't cut down the original ways (lathe bars) but merely swap them out?

Hello Matthew, It is rather cool, I have wanted one for some time... They are not the original ways (bars). I think I have a short and long set of ways... I can't see that I will do much wood turning so the short set will be used mostly. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
