I've always dug the end of this album's Aquatarkus epic long track when, after playing only the best keyboard/synth solos ever played for what, 20 minutes straight, Keith instead of basking in it says "Carl Palmer, Greg Lake". One of a kind, once in a generation (or three).. cheers

@James Smith, I love your comments. Sadly, I never saw ELP as a band but got to see Carl & ELP legacy band in March 2018, and omgod! He definitely gave me a great idea of what it would have felt like to see the band back in their day! He was incredible!!!! His hands move so fast that they almost disappear! I don't get this crap when people say "Carl has timing issues" or whatever, because it sure as h**l was music to me -- and great music at that!!!! As much as I was looking forward to hearing him play Fanfare for the drum intro, it was Trilogy that hit me hardest! And...he had just turned 68 the week before! Sure, he may not be 100% as fast as he was in the days but he STILL kicks ass and then some!!!! I bet he can out play many, many drummers half his age! I was only 5 feet in front of him! It was a dream come true! He is the BEST!!!

It is so sad we've lost 2 of the 3. There will NEVER be a band like ELP again, especially because of Keith. Thank goodness, between Carl continuing with the ELP Legacy Band and 2 great guitarists, and Aaron Emerson (who does a pretty fine job of hitting the ivories, too!) as well as his own young son Ethan, maybe the Emerson name won't fade. Ethan, at only 11, played Dreamer like a seasoned pro at his grandfather's tribute concert last summer. I listen to a lot more music and have other favorites (ELP is 1st) but there is just something about ELP that is like an addiction! I cannot go 1 day without hearing them!!!! Loved your story, too!!! I love to watch some of his stuff with The Nice. Hang On To A Dream just knocks my socks off!!! He was so incredible, then and later. I also love lots of his stuff with Marc Bonilla (as the KE Band).

I just cannot believe he suicide! He didn't need to prove himself again and again he was just a legend, gutted!!!

We have grown up with Greg. Maybe he started progressive music with Epitaph , I Talk to the wind, etc. When he leaved King Crimson , we could see that the very their king was Lake. If You carefully listen "THE SAGE " there are the same toones of Epitaph. Keith knews Greg was very sick in 2016 ... Giovanni Paolo (che nome), sei italiano?

I read somewhere that Keith used "Hoedown" to tune up the Moogs. They were apparently really fussy machines and couldn't really be tuned except while you were playing them. I remember when I saw the BSS tour in December 1973, Keith was constantly adjusting the switch panel behind the synthesizers. Compare with the video here of their playing "Fanfare for the Common Man" in the snow in Montreal in 1977; the huge switch panel was still there, but Keith never touched it once. Maybe this was technical progress in the intervening years, or maybe "Fanfare" was just easier to play than "Karn Evil Nine." But I know Keith contributed a lot to the development of the Moog. I wish I had gone seen him at Moogfest when I lived in North Carolina.

This album as previously songs as "Lucky man" was a work against the war. In these years we were totally filled in that bad dream of VietNam war. That sound of moog was symolizing a machine gun. As the cover of Tarkus and "Tank" in the first Album. There were in that time many songs against Vietnam war and all the wars (for example in South America): "1983 ..." Hendrix; many songs of John Lennon; Doors: Rolling Stones, etc
