The best part of his video is his attitude towards the horse when the horse anticipated and went to canter without being asked. His reaction and philosophy was so kind and sensible- if I were a horse I would hope to be with a kind person like him.

Exactly this, you have to be able to relax, break at your waist and let your body move with the horse instead of tensing up and consciously trying to stop the bounce. Great video - such a wonderful team of horse and rider.

He's so right. To try to sit on a horse with a 'hard' back is the worst thing for the rider especially the novice. Ideally all decent public centres should have several schooled horses with excellent paces and that can be used maybe to lunge riders so they can feel what it is like to sit correctly on a horse with a soft back and swinging comfortable feel . As Emile points out, Tom his pupil here is a advanced and makes it look easy. The horse too is working at a high level. You do need to be brave but a soft horse helps.

One day I will look like Tom in the Trot, but that seems a long way away. What a beautiful posture.

Nice advice to go shorter periods first and keep going back to rising trot. Thank you!

Do diagonals not matter in these exercises
@dominicweber
@dominicweber 7 жыл бұрын
Michelle Covey Of course not, they only serve to change hand (but there are far better exercises for that) or to make the horse ride straight without the help of a wall (but there too, far better exercises exist). Diagonals really are trivial.

this comment is so old haha but diagonals always matter, so yes

Sylla Atlas your comment is old so I’m not sure if you know this or not but the reason we post on the correct diagonal is because it makes it easier and more comfortable for the horse to move. It makes it easier for them to get their hind legs underneath them and it would be almost impossible to do extended posting trot if you were on the incorrect diagonal because the horse would be uncomfortable and they would not understand your aids as well

Always maintain the proper diagonal in the rising trot.
