I loved the last message Chris/Alex wrote in his book... "Happiness is only real when shared." He was trying to flee from civilization and human relationships and he wanted to be ultimately free, yet at the end he realized that being all alone in the nature does not make him happy.... Love does matter.

this movie is so under rated, more people need to see this movie, Chris McCandless - you are my hero! The ending of this film is beautiful and the quotes all the way through as well. It takes so much courage to do what Chris did, I can only hope to know myself to that extent someday.

Into the Wild was such an amazing movie, and to know that it was a true story based on his own writings makes it one of the top 10 films of the past decade in my eyes. I show it to everyone that will sit still for it.

I know what you mean. This story touched me also. I'm not too sure even why it did so. Or even why it meant so much to me. I cried at the end. The family really bared their soles giving all of us their story. I wish to thank them and Sean. I keep the preview on my ipod.

Chris suffered from family pressure in his life, plus he was sensitive. Put them together. Hated the pressure, what he saw and was stuck. He went into the wild for two reasons. To get out of his ego that the society had built in him that he could not remove and to remove himself from paid. The first is noble, the second isnt. Dealing with pain is difficult. But there can be balance in society. people have done it. However yes, there are people who like wild living as a means for life.

Don't miss the documentary Summit on the Summit where Emile Hirsh, Jessica Biel, Alexandra Cousteau, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco and Shanti Gold climb the Kilimanjaro to raise awareness on the lack of clean water in Africa. Little did he know by the time he made Into the Wild that the true wildest thoughest journey of his life was to happen in 2010.

He wasn't pretending to be something he isn't. He was being what we all are in first place: animals. The social part comes after that. This young man had nothing to stop him from doing this. He had no connection with his parents and neither with school mates. He only had his sister. For him, relationships were bullshit. So, if humans are a social animal and he has no connections with society, he is just an animal. This guy, my friend, he had balls, thing that you probably don't have.

A lot of people who are very smart and sensitive will suffer. The same with artists. Thats known. I think he did the unthinkable which was amazing, but there's no doubt that his emotional side was immature and probably very complicated.

Its about querying what you want out of life i think. Chris's queries were a mixed bag. He wanted out; natural inspiration to break his ego structure and to be as close to enlightened as possible but also, he felt very let down in other ways. Some people escape pain through drugs, sex, alcohol, obsessions. He might have done that through societal abstinence. Its existential too. He was very philosophical, he loved intellectual books. He questioned structures and he applied them to himself as wel

@Sidoti8 We know now that he didn't die of poisoning. He died from starvation. He had been surviving on rabbits, and while that may sustain a healthy man for a short while, he was already half starving. It was an easy mistake to make- it'd be easy to think that eating rabbits and small game was enough.
