A bit of advice from an "older" woman: Don't worrying about "selling" a house you plan to live in a long, long time. For example, do what YOU want and don't worry about keeping things neutral if you would prefer color, or keeping things "generic" if you prefer personality/character. Make your "forever home" a house YOU love and don't worry about what other people might prefer IF you were to sell it. My husband and I plan to live in our house until we die, so whenever we catch ourselves thinking about "resell value" we stop and think about "living value".... what do WE like? What do WE want?

For sure. The couple that bought our home some years back repainted and ripped out the flooring altogether. My husband is in floor covering. We had the best carpet and tile in that house. They ripped it out entirely…. Recently our neighbor sold his house. He repainted and put new carpet. I went to the open house to see all that he had done. Personally I did not care for the carpet he selected. It didn’t go with any of our furniture. I think this is a tricky area- you want the house to look nice and be all fresh when it sells, but like you were saying, you risk them ripping everything out…The house We’re in now we bought as-is so we could paint and re-do the flooring to our liking. Also cost less because of it…

My husband has a list of home “fixes” on his phone that he adds to when he notices anything needing to be done. Then once a month (I think the last Fri of the month or something), he looks at that list, goes to the store & gets whatever he needs (if any), & fixes them that weekend. He’s been doing this for 4 yrs now & it keeps the “fix list” from getting overwhelming.

Great comment and reinforces the advice Becky gives about taking care of things as they happen. It's really good advice because the last thing you want is a list of little things to take care of when selling, and worse, you resolve whatever the issue is but won't be there to enjoy the finished/fixed issue. Been there, done that until we learned WE deserve to enjoy all our efforts.

I know some folks will wonder why you're putting $$ into old house, but I did same and got $20k over asking (budding war) on a house listed at just $120k (I'd paid $90k), so much much smaller than Becky's. It pays to let buyers see house as move in ready. In today's market where housing is so high anyway, buyers don't always have enough cash for down AND improvements.
@pamelaremme38
@pamelaremme38 2 жыл бұрын
Bidding wars are going on even when you don't do all that. Blackrock is buying up properties...outbidding homeowners and out pricing so the average homeowner can't get the loan for that much asking without having that amount for a down payment. The fix is in. It's called Agenda 21. Land grab. You will own nothing and be happy.

We toured a house years ago only to find that the owners had just covered all the floors with dark green carpet, and all the main walls with green/white striped wallpaper. I could not live with that, but couldn't face ripping out and disposing of all that brand new stuff, so we just walked away. It's tricky to decorate for someone else, and I've wondered if some couple ever walked into that house and thought....'it's perfect!'

My husband and I have been together for 6 years and have put in the hard work to overcome challenges that we have seen many couples breakup/divorce over. It’s imperative to ACTUALLY overcome the struggles and reach compromise rather than to sweep it under the rug and stay together in a parasitic marriage in order to “not give up so easily”. I never understood laying carpet for the next buyer who may not like what you pick. My husband and I have moved into 3 houses and didn't like the brand new carpet/flooring that the sellers laid. ....Or some rooms had new carpet and we were going to lay wood floors. What a shame to have wasted their money. Now if you gave the new buyers a flooring allowance and had it laid for them, that would be different. Each house we bought had new flooring in the gray/grey family. I absolutely hate gray...... Just hate it. We had it taken up and gave it away.

Just as you are changing a lot of things in your new home, chances are the new owner of your previous home will prefer things to be different... you're very hard working and have a lot of projects on your plate, I would've cleaned up the house and left it as is (providing credit at closing) so the new owners can choose their own floors, paint colors, etc. You could use that time on your home, planting, etc, etc. Hopefully your efforts are rewarded.

As an alternative to this idea, would be a great idea to create a Wishlist for a women's shelter to help people in need. There are so many people who lack even the basics and don't have the means to buy for themselves.

It’s awesome that you are doing a deep clean on the old house, I’m sure the new owners will appreciate that detail. I had to do that on NEW construction because it was “construction “ clean, lol. Your thoughtfulness is inspiring.

I completely agree re making your house comfortable. I do the silly, small jobs too. I absolutely love lists. I work through them. My favourite thing is to do a three day massive clean. At the end I just relax and ‘be’. It’s very cathartic.

I LOVE, LOVE your videos!! I have learned so much from you! Wow… I think the most important thing I have learned is the “Oh well, it doesn’t need to be perfect” WONDERFUL. I’m a perfectionist and that causes me so much anxiety. I started repeating that phrase over and over and it just gives me peace. At the same time you give me so much energy and wonderful ideas! Thank you for your videos. They are truly inspirational and amazing 👏👏👏

I know you’ve said that you do sleep and do nothing some days but if I had just half your energy I would be so content lol 😂 Can’t wait to see how you decorate and finish up your house. Also your cooking videos in a different kitchen!! Thank you for showing us a small part of your life with Josh. (I know it took him a while to be comfy with KZfaq) Hope he did enjoy his pto days and he did get a little bit of a break and got to enjoy staying home with you! - kat 😍😍

So great to see the transition. Take your time finding that bed. Often sales in November to save money. Might want to slow down a bit Becky. You are still in overdrive. Time is on your side leading up to your last trimester. Hope the little one is out of hospital and feeling better. It's never stress free when that happens. The carpet looks nice. Hopefully the buyer appreciates. I'd pay the $175 so a deep cleaning. It's already in good shape and you don't have to push to do it. During my first, I was the energizer bunny and it took its toll during delivery and recovery. I'm not suggesting to not stay busy. Just listen to your body. Take care and thanks for sharing.

Hi Becky and Josh. My goodness can I borrow some of your energy? 😄 For some reason watching your videos is making moving look fun. That Thai food looked so delish 😋 I'm not moving myself but my apartment needs a big make over. Looking at you guys inspires me. I never thought about white as warm. But never too old to learn that there are more whites than just plain white. I do have to look into colors too because I have one big wall that I want to do. Glad things are going as expected for you guys. Glad the little one is still holding strong in the hospital. Till the next video. 👋🏻❤️🇳🇱

A great commitment to make however life often gets in the way. When the baby comes it’s likely you won’t have time, in the early days, to do the little things. We ensure we make a list of items which require work and each year get someone in to take care of all the little jobs - it works well for us.

Enjoy living your life to the fullest because one day y’all will have to slow down. Until that day comes, just enjoy everything y’all do! Whoever buys your old house will be getting a house that’s like almost new with everything y’all are doing to it.
