Oh boy am I glad I found your channel! I just love your video, You see Em I am not a patient person, having tried the boiling method and had multiple failures I almost gave up on eco printing until you came along, and Amen to that! I just fell in love as soon as you said Iron whoop whoop no more boiling water and soggy paper dilemas for me. I am so happy right now I could dance. I was wowed by your garden flowers they are stunning, I so wish I had a garden with that many flowers and colours growing. I live in an apartment so off to the park tomorrow to get me some leaves and wild flowers. It is so funny that I have never ever used my iron for clothes and have always used it in my crafts so here we go again with another use for it. Perfect, perfect perfect. I am so excited I don't want to go to bed! (it's 11.40 in UK as I am typing this) I can't wait to get to the park tomorrow and then come back to try this method. Thank you all the way around the world and back again. I hope mine work out as beautiful as yours did. x

Hello I just wanted to pop onto here and thank you for sharing with all of us your gifts and talents with Eco-printing. I am just starting out and am doing this with my kid's. We will try several different ways of doing this. Which as you know the original way of just pressing them takes weeks and my kid's are learning patients with that method for sure! However this is a great way to show them another way that is much quicker. Thanks again! Also~ Who cares what ppl say about killing a teeny tiny bug....Jeesh ppl! LOL Like they have NEVER smooshed an ant before? You are doing all of us a service by showing us these techniques..... and I truly appreciate you doing this.... Smooshed bugs and all!! LOL

The fact that you are using pre-alumed paper effects how well the dye or pigment attaches to the paper. Alum is used as a mordant which helps the dye adhere and intensifies the depth of color.

Em, I learned from another source that backs/bottoms of leaves have more tannin in them so supposedly that's the side that makes a stronger print. And the fronts/tops of leaves make a lighter print or the halo/outline effect you'll sometimes see. I haven't tested these theories yet but I can't wait to! Thanks for this fun video. I felt like I was hanging out with a nice, cool person for a while 😊

Oh, Im more than just inspired, Im down right anxious to do this! And I will be looking through your videos for more ideas, since you got lots of them. I know we just ”met”, but could you do a giant favor for me? List me a couple of flowers that are kinda idiotproof, so I dont get discouraged right out of the gates. I think I got everything else from this bit, only the names (or how they are written, so I can translate them) eludes me. I ordered some alum already, then its just the actual flowers to wait for, and THAT might be the hardest part for me =)

I love them. They are outstanding. It's quick and easy and turns out so pretty I think I'd probably wear a mask to protect my lungs from any possibility of breathing in any of the steam. I have asbestos fibers in my lungs from Libby MT. I just had an ephiny to dry the flowers in a press or book and glueing them between two sheets of rice, tracing or tissue paper. I know that this isn't eco printing, but it may be pretty too. I saved your video to my faviorites. I need to remember the flowers that you head and got such good results with.

It says copper but looks like the ones online. I ran and got the 2nd one for me. Not used on grill yet. I’m using it as a thermal mat. My laminator broke and it helps laminate with an iron until I get something else. Think ive decided on a tshirt press as I can do many things with it yet no plastic rollers!

Hi Nina, thank you for the comment. I think it was water or vinegar water. Since the paper already has alum, usually I will start with vinegar water and then later use water if needed. I like to use vinegar water at least once during the process. No set rule, experiment and see what you prefer:-)

How did it turn out with the frozen flowers? Did you thaw them or not? Thanks!
@SusieMathews
@SusieMathews 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie P., I did try this and I did try both ways (from frozen & from thawed). I got mixed results. Some of the flowers hold up well being frozen & some do not, in terms of definition (flowers & petals with defined edges in finished product). The freezing process changes the cells on a molecular level. With that said, I was not displeased with my results. I got spectacular color, both ways, & the process was far less taxing on me than the boiling method. Working with them still frozen was by far easier than thawed. The thawed flower petals became a bit mushy and hard to separate or spread out. All the leaves I used came out almost the same as they do during the boiling method. I froze very sturdy leaves to begin with & assume that if they were delicate, I would have had the same issues I had with the flowers. Bottom line, if you have no time then freezing will at least get you brilliant color. If you are after real definition, then you need to make the time or dry them and do the boiling option down the line. I have not tried this quicker steam method on dried flowers & leaves yet & that is why I suggested boiling. I have boiled dried flowers/leaves & was very successful.
