Wow! Great examples you’ve done with the eco printing! Love the ironing concept opposed to boiling. Thanks so much for sharing this process! Beautiful, watching from 🇨🇦 thru Covid-19. 💕

Hi Dorothy, that is one of the interesting things about the eco printing. You never know what you will get. It is hard to get a lot of the botanicals to come out true to the original color, which is part of the process and fun. Thanks for watching!

Hi. Thank you for answering so many of my questions with your stories and videos. But I am wondering, can we re-use some of the flowers that were pressed during the eco process for either another eco press or even dried again for framing?
@emsplace
@emsplace 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, appreciate the comment. Personally after I use botanicals for eco printing they wouldn't be good for anything else:-) I just put them in the recycle bin. I suppose it just depends upon the eco process used and how they come out once done eco printing. If you think it would work, give it a try. Playing is half the fun:-)

Terrific! Couple questions.....how long do these prints stay “vibrant”? What do you use them for? Do you have videos showing projects you’ve used them on? Comment about the popcorn....my dad used to always cook the popcorn in a pan on the stove.....to this day I’ve never tasted anything better! True they don’t make things like they used to! TYFS ❤️🦋💜

Hi, you want to display them out of the sunlight. Just like fine art, watercolor and so forth, they will fade over time. Like with pressed flowers, many will hold color for years... If using in journals where they are dark most of the time, they last much longer. I also give a couple light coats of this clear spray amzn.to/3fwuLdW as it says it has UV protection. I really like this spray because it works really well, and doesn't look like anything has been put on top, giving it more of a natural finish. Please note the link is from my Amazon affiliate link and that is for a six pack. You can find this at your local hardware store for a much better price for one can. Em

Did you use the vinegar water during the ironing? Interesting video! Thanks.
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 жыл бұрын
HI, yes I usually spary a little of the vinegar water on the botanicals just before starting the ironing, unless I soak the botanicals in vinegar water as I gather them before putting them on the paper - and sometime both. LOL, I don't really have a set rule except to try to get a little vinegar water on them somewhere in the process:-) Thank for watching, Em

What is the type of paper you lay on top of the folded over paper that the iron makes contact with? Is it to protect the paper you are eco dyeing from burning?
@emsplace
@emsplace 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, it is a teflon sheet. Sometimes the iron will stick to the paper when used without that on top. Maybe others have a different expeience, but I use the teflon both above and below the paper sandwich of flowers. Thanks for watching, Em

Love your work. Do you keep the flowers in water until you are ready to start ironing.
@emsplace
@emsplace 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Georgia, yes I do keep them in the water. I have a cardboard shallow box I take with me to snip the botanicals as I walk around the yard, and then put them in the vinegar water until use so they don't get too limp. Thank you watching, Em

Do you think you could coffee or tea stain the paper before using this method?
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes I don't see why not. I have on occasion put coffee (I use instant) in with the alum water when I want to impart that type of affect to the paper, and that has worked out alright and one less step in the process. Thank you for watching. Em

is there a simple product instead of alum?
@emsplace
@emsplace Жыл бұрын
Hi, While there may be other products, this is what my research shows as one of the more popular to use for asborbing/attracting the natural colorants to your substrate (for example paper or fabric). Do a search for "mordants" to get more detailed ideas and information. Thank you for watching. Em

Should people mask up?
@emsplace
@emsplace 8 ай бұрын
Hi, I stand back so I don't breath in the fumes or stoop below any rising fumes as best possible. Yes, a mask is good for those concerned. If I did this a lot, I would use the appropriate mask. But for occasional crafting, I am OK with my precautions. Each person needs to do what they are comfortable with - risk wise. Thank you for watching, Em

Hi, when I watch videos that are moving to slow for my taste I scrub along the timeline. Some like condensed, and some like real time. Also, there is a playback speed option in the settings at the bottom of the video that can be changed to play back at up to 2 times faster. Thanks for watching.
