Great video! How things have changed over the years! Remember learning to bend conduit, was told to write this down, then told get to work. Years ago it was a complete sink or swim attitude in the industry, even the apprenticeship was designed around weeding out the weak, started off with 140 student and ended up with less than 20.

Question, for the 3rd mark added on the conduit being 7 1/4” away from the first mark made; is that measurement the actual width of the obstruction? And if it is, is the 3/4” shrinkage factor applied to the width of the obstruction as well? Or is it not added? The first mark is distance to obstruction plus 3/4” so it’d make sense to add 3/4” to the width of the obstruction right or no?

Klein should make tape measures with the back side having essential conduit info, concentric bend formula, ohms law etc but skip the inch measurements on the back. Also tape measures need to be slightly compact not a big block. They need magnets on the ends that won't break off.

@Sparky Channel: Could you do a show on how properly air bend 3/4" conduit. It's pretty difficult and FAILED HARD on 3/4". I tried doing this several times with 3/4" conduit, and messed up each time. The last time, the conduit and bender slipped in the air and I got injured badly. Both my left little finger and my left big toe got seriously SMASHED when it cut loose. Enough so they both turned black and I'm losing my fingernail and my toenail now..

Only if you're trying to reach a set point. (Like a box) But, more likely the pipe will end and you'll be using a coupling. So it wont matter.
@Patrick-gm8ui
@Patrick-gm8ui 3 жыл бұрын
I have a question. You have your first marked 33’7/8” because of there is a 3/4” shrinking this one I understand. However why don’t we add another 3/4” on the other side? So that should make 1’1/2” shrinkage in total.
@LIVETOODRUM
@LIVETOODRUM 2 жыл бұрын
The other 3/4 of shrinkage wouldnt appear until after the second set of bends. If he only did the first offset there would only be a 3/4 difference from the original length of the pipe. The distance you have to cross over your obstruction won’t grow or shrink so the center point of the bends should be a constant. I’m not sure if that made complete sense. I’ll think about it and try to figure out a better way to word it

Hey i like the video!!! but isnt that arrow on the bender that you were using for offsets only meant for 90° bends? I thought you were supposed to use the notch for offsets
@davidzee3755
@davidzee3755 3 жыл бұрын
The notch is for your middle bend if a 3 point saddle bend and that’s all it’s used for outer bends on a 3 point saddle use the arrow as well

How did you come up with 7 1/4 third mark ? should it be as long as you desire the length of the saddle meaning what if was 3 pipes other then 2??
@SparkyChannel
@SparkyChannel 3 жыл бұрын
7 1/4" was the length of the obstruction. Yes, if the obstruction was longer than you would need more space between the middle marks.

Thank you for your quick response I'd say that clears things up but it was a rhetorical question. I do like your demo don't get me wrong or seem to be like I'm some kind of a master pipe bender lol I seen other ways how to get the measurements like taking the distance of the obstruction and starting from the middle. Keep them videos coming buddy!!

Does the multiplier or shrink change with different size of conduit? So if the multiplier for a 1/2 inch conduit is 6 will the multiplier for 3/4 inch also 6?

You used the 30 degree bend correct? So shouldn’t the shrinkage be 3/16” per 1” and not 1/4” per 1”?
@arhodehamel2615
@arhodehamel2615 2 жыл бұрын
for 3/4 conduit 3/16 per inch is 22.5 degree, 1/4 per inch is 30 degree. it goes up 1/16 per inch starting with 15 degrees at 1/8 per inch

I had an obstruction that was 2" high and 4.5" wide. A four point saddle wouldn't work right, the distance between bends would be too close right?
@JorgeMartinez-mp7yz
@JorgeMartinez-mp7yz 2 жыл бұрын
you could always just use smaller degree bends to put more space between the bends.
