Description: In 2008, ConnDOT purchased 8 Amtrak P40DC’s 833, 834, 836, 838, 840-843 for use on their commuter trains, mainly Shore Line East. Over the next 10 years, they will acquire four more P40’s from NJTransit, 4800-4803, and in the Summer of 2018, 6 P40’s: 834, 841, 4800-4803, are sent out to Amtrak’s Beech Grove Shops in Indiana for rebuilding and repaint into the new CTRail Scheme. Meanwhile back in Connecticut, 833 836 838 840 842 & 843 continue to serve their commuter train suites for the next four years. During this time, they have become very worn and tired both physically and mentally as they begin to suffer problems. In March 2021, the first rebuilt P40, CTDX 6711 (formerly 4803), arrived in CT, which marked the beginning of the end for the remaining 6 unrebuilt P40’s. Over time, one by one a locomotive was sent out and in May 2022, 838 was the last remaining P40 working the commuter lines of CT. Two months later, it too was sent out leaving behind the memories of the face of CT Rail in the before time.
