Join me in a reflective journey as I retrieve my stored belongings from my friend's farm, where two solo females over 50 think back on our transformative experiences in Portugal over the last three years.
While my friend ‪@CindyVine‬ has been building her off-grid homestead in the heart of Central Portugal, I've embarked on an unexpected nomadic adventure, house sitting my way through the landscapes of Portugal. You make me miss Portugal, especially when you drive around and show us you driving the road. I love that I’ll be glad when you get the dogs hip array. I loved my little drive to Cindy is the houses before you get Sindhis are quite nice, especially in the summer with all the flowers around the houses.

I remember when I went to visit Cindy cleaning out her shed for her after the pigs vandalised it. I left Cindy with some avocado seeds. I wonder if she ever planted them. It was such a shame that she lost her old avocado plants. She really did well growing them as well.

In 2020 I had 2 months off to travel to Ghana, Senegal and The Gambia. The virus made that too complicated. My 2018 plan was to move to Ghana when I retired. So, more research, Portugal kept popping up. Now, it’s Portugal and I’ve made 1 visit to Portugal. Eventually, I’ll visit the continent of Africa. New destinations keep popping up. Ghana is still on my very long short list of places to visit.

She goes off the beaten track on her motorbike, she's currently in Cameroon after starting in Morocco, so has passed through all the countries you mention. Its something that shocked me a little in Portugal. A lot of people treat their dogs so poorly by Brits standards. Our neighbour has this beautiful big dog, that is constantly locked up in his patio, rain hail shine and baking heat...A few times my wife and I will take her a walk on the beach and you can tell she absolutely loves it. This guy rarely walks her and the lat time I seen her her rib cage was visible like she was really malnutritioned . I mentioned it to him and he claimed it was because she just lies around all day....

It's so lovely watching the lives of both you and Cindy unfold. And you are right, it is an adventure. I too moved to Portugal 2.5 years ago...with our 3 dogs and a cat from Canada. We ended up in Obidos (love the location!) and as much as I LOVE Portugal.... I have fallen in love with the Malaga region of Spain. Of course for me it's the sunrise location! Portugal has incredible sunsets....only I am an early riser and one of my favourite things about life is walking in the golden hour of sunrise. So our new adventure is to find a place in Spain so we can enjoy winters there and summers in Portugal. So CHEERS to new adventures and thank you for sharing yours!

Maybe durinh this stint, you could build a tiny house then park it in the olive grove at Cindy's. Your friendship is just lovely, and if you have your own tiny house, then you can live ya own lives, have ya own space, but help each other out when needed ❤

Indeed, the only person who could possibly complete the story of your starts is Crazel Hazel, what a team of Wonder Women 🦸🏽‍♀️🦸🏼‍♀️🦸‍♀️ you are 🤩. Your friendship and company has made such an enormous difference with the many fellow immigrants you met who also chose Portugal as their home. Very nice recap of your 2.5 years. Why the owner of the dogs changed his mind? The dogs were probably kept in cages in order to be a sound alarm, as many portugise do. What if he put another dog/dogs in these cages? 😢
