From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.

Being a victim of harrassment from an ex lover who's not willing to let go. This movie resonates with me so much. The fear stays in your bones, it stains your mind, it scars your spirit. You watch and hear those news about those girls getting slaughtered like pigs by the men who claim to love them and you're wondering if you'll end up the same. You're living your days not knowing when he'll come back to terrorize you again and worse, you can't tell anybody because you fear it'll just make matters worse. I know how she felt. I was her in the movie and she was me in reality.

Here's the poem she wrote and where Tate finds the necklace: The Firefly Luring him was as easy As flashing valentines. But like a lady firefly They hid a secret call to die. A final touch, Unfinished; The last step, a trap. Down, down he falls, His eyes still holding mine Until they see another world. I saw them change. First a question, Then an answer, Finally an end. Jodie had to leave and couldn't come back due to being in the military. If he hadn't left, their dad would've killed him. But he *did* come back. In the movie, their mother leaves because she was beaten so brutally that she sustained brain damage. Jodie even says himself: "... when she remembered she had children..." which implies the beating she sustained from their father was so brutal and severe that not only did she have brain damage from it, but amnesia as well. He also says that she attempted to get them back, but died of Leukemia before she could.

Kya never waited for mother to take Kya with her...She simply waited for her to come back and be there. That's why she kept Ma's wood stove to remain the same even though she renovated the shack with the money she earned by publishing books. Then Jodie came over bringing bad news about her dying and brought some of her paintings which filled with her children and she hung them up on the walls. When Jumpin' passed away she did her own ritual to say goodbye to him, and finally pictured her mother go down the sandy road, turning back and waving back at her before hit the main road, that's where she let her mother go. Kya never left the Marsh, even after she died. She was buried in her own land under an oak tree, she would forever be a part of the marsh

I remember how earlier in the film Kya was explaining the animals in the marsh and they’re methods of surviving. Or as she put it, “creative ways to ensure”. Sums up her relationship with Chase. He’s a predator and she’s his prey. She was just trying to survive. Even if that meant killing him.

@@britishrajpakistan I've seen your comments in many threads here. Your perspective is very narrow minded and ignorant. As a female who has been a victim of crimes, stalked and caught by predators. I find this story to be VERY understandable. All Humans are imperfect and we all have "sins". At the end of the day, the fact is many people commit hideous crimes and NEVER punished for it. Just like 'young Chase', never punished for crimes committed onto others. The "justice system" throughout the World fails us Victims. Go search for the FACTS and figures of SA, DA and SV crimes committed and documented, reported or unreported. The percentage of criminals that are successfully prosecuted, and the pathetic sentences they serve. Go look at the global figures of cases that are never taken to court, or dropped due to whatever excuses and/or loopholes they decide is valid. Victims get treated worse than the most disgusting crimminals on earth. The truth is no human should have to go through that much pain, suffering and genuine unbearable fear. MANY can relate to this story because it hits to the truth of our World. Yes this story is Fictional, but a lot of the situations are rooted in the worlds truths. If you 'hate' the people who can relate to Kya's character in some way, and those who can empathize with her situation. Unfortunately you have a lot of people to hate. 😂

This story is a Masterpiece. Truly. A part of me LOVES the ending, and a part of me mourns for the guy she killed too. He too was trapped in his world, and his violence with Kya is not acceptable and had he stayed away he could have lived his life. Its unfortunate he chose to continue to stalk and harm Kya. It led to his demise. In her world, where she is an utter and complete naturalist, it was going to be him or her, and it was completely natural for her to protect herself, a right even, in her mind, though she knew she would be condemned for it, because he come from the world of entitlement and wealth, and she was, in their minds, just a marsh girl, inferior and despised. It’s rare I enjoy both a book I have read and then the film version too, usually one disappoints. For me I loved the film and book in equal measure. The ending was beautifully done in the film, I knew what was coming. Just lovely, which is why I wanted to listen to the words spoken again ☺️.

The marsh taugh her well about the ways of the wild and they way of the nature that there will always be a predator and a prey she observe different species fighting day to day for survival and morality is not a thing when one's must kill to survive in the wild it's all primal instinct.. that's the reason why she still looked innocent and don't care about the trial for her she it's just a natural order of things that the marsh and the judgemental society teached her.. in the end she never bothered when someone will question her if she did the right thing.. she knows in the eyes of the society she broke a law but in the law of the wild it's natural order to kill for one's survival.

Why is no one talking about the scene after kya and the lawyer are talking in the cell about her taking the stand. And it shows a flash back of the lawyer walking around the town the night kya was supposed to be in Greenville and looks over and sees her in the green dress sitting at a bench talking to someone !?! I feel like that is the biggest scene in the whole movie to put the pieces together
@abbeycollins6075
@abbeycollins6075 Жыл бұрын
For me the point of the scene was lawyer Tom wondering who would have a motive for killing Chase and lo and behold, who do we see? Tate. That was to lead the viewer to consider him the murderer. The last thing Kya wanted to do was draw attention to herself so she wouldn't have been comfortably talking to a man. Plus right across the street, in plain view, Tate was hugging his Dad upon his return from college. Kya would have been freaking out, not casually sitting there engaging in conversation. That was just a couple hanging out. What do you think?

I don't understand that scene either. But book also falsely lead the reader for a minute or two that Tate is the murderer but turns out police comes after Tate to announce his father's death. Scupper was a huge part of the story, but it was not scripted in the movie so I guess this scene was the way it was scripted.

Very beautiful movie!! My only thing is...i find this family very odd. First the mum walks out, leaving all the children with a man who beats anybody in sight. Then the siblings start running away ONE BY ONE and Jodie leaves last,leaving a defenceless Kya ALONE with a violent prick of a father, when he should have grabbed her hand and firmly said let's get out of here, i'm not leaving you alone with him. Then the father himself leaves😩 I mean the whole family except Kya, displayed supreme selfishness. Never once did the other siblings come back for their little sister. And Jodie just randomly shows up and tries to be her brother again. Like....wow.

It would be nice if you could read the book so you’d understand everything. This is one of the downsides of book adaptations as it could fail to include a lot of important details. Ma was heavily beaten in the book. And also became physically and mentally ill as told by her sister. She didn’t talk for years and when she finally woke up from her senses, she wrote to Pa that she wanted the kids to be with her. But Pa threatened her that he will beat them unrecognizable. She loved her kids. She just didn’t have a choice and she was ”frozen in some horrible place of believing that we’d be harmed if she returned and abandoned if she didn’t”. While she was sick, she painted the kids and Jodie gave it to Kya when he came back. Also, Jodie didn’t have a choice as well. He was also very young when he left. The rest of Kya’s siblings left while she was very young. She couldn’t even recognize their own faces. Also her father had this on and off phases. He’d always be triggered by his memories of the war which led him to drinking to erase those memories. Not justifying his deeds though. He was a very bad father. He was kind to Kya for a time but when Ma sent the letter, it became his last straw.

The Author and Kya herself wonders why didn't they take her with them. But I think because she was a part of the Marsh, she was not supposed to leave. All the other kids including Jodie were born in New Orleans before they moved to marsh. But Kya was born in the marsh, and she was way too young than her siblings, to be taken away by a child like Jodie or her other older siblings without knowing whether they gonna survive or not after leaving home.

I just finished it. And this scene wasn’t as shocking to me as it was exciting! Thus is life and in the real world, as much as people hate to hear it, it’s kill or be killed. You can’t ask to find someone like this on some dating app. Life lessons make you who you are. Only the toughest cubs make it to adulthood and they do it by learning how to survive aka by any means possible. Also, in my opinion, this is why I think women, since the beginning of time, have always been fighters. My mom is a fighter. Growing up, I saw first hand how a woman navigated the system against all odds, escaped her childhood and became financially independent. There are countless more stories like this movie to be told about the strength of women. Im so glad I clicked on this movie tonight.

Its pretty obvious she murdered him and its been hinted several times. We see at the beginning of the movie she knows how to hide her tracks perfectly. When her and Chase went to that tower she saw and was looking at him closing that in front of her and she walked over it knowing its dangerous (hinting her knowing its dangerous). At the meeting with the book publishers she states something about a mantis killing in order to survive showing no mercy or something (hint). The book she wrote, having that necklace. If you pause and read what she wrote: She said she lured him in (its a poem im just making it more simple) and led him to a trap, then with one push he fell to his death. She watched as life left his eyes. I believe she left with no footsteps as she knew exactly when the tide went up leaving no footprints to be seen. Kya is very smart and calculated. Chase deserved it
