It should be naturally assumed most RV'ers are armed. In my experience 90% have at least one gun but 100% have some kind of defensive weapon.

1st Rule of traveling: Don't go where your 2A rights are not allowed, or severe restrictions are put on them. When you do, you're just asking to become a statistic. Criminals, by definition, do not obey the law. You're at a disadvantage.

I will carry anywhere, discretely and you will never know it...I refuse to let my family become a victim of a violent crime..I would much rather myself and family be alive and get a firearm charge then being dead. I will take my chances.

being in law enforcement for about 25 years, this video is spot on. everyone needs training on use of firearms. When that time comes, you don't want to be fumbling for your gun. I unfortunately had to rely on my training due to a guy making a bad choice, but I survived and he didn't.

Sadly due to many States you don't have a choice. They require empty chamber, clip in a different part of the vehicle and both in separatelocked boxes no where near where you can reach. Stupidest laws for many spots. Always call the State prior to find out what their laws are.

Carry a Glock 30S, my .45,and 2 13rd mags since IL gov.thought my Glock 17 had too many rounds. I've got my conceal carry in 2014, train every month, have never had cause to draw my gun. I did find 15 rd. mags for my 17 but I have learned to love the .45. They even fit the same holster!

Thanks for another great video. I retired last September after 35 years in law enforcement. I have carried every day, and so should every law abiding American. Your advice is much needed in our RV community and the public at large. I hope the KZfaq generals leave this video monetized. As an RN, I’ve SEEN both sides, and I will appreciate a safe gun owner over an idiot who is careless with weapons, especially around children, and I grieve for those who could have had protection and chose not to, like the couple you just spoke of. That was a tragedy that didn’t have to happen. We don’t live in a safe world. Everyone should know how to protect themselves and their loved ones. Please continue doing more of these videos, Izzy!

I always appreciate your firearm videos . I have been around guns all my life and thats a long time. I am currently 82 years old . I am a concealed carry permit holder and always respected firearms. As far as Im concerned you can never have enough training and good info from people like yourself you never have to apologise to anyone for making these informative videos . I have watched EVERY video you have done on gun safety. I am full time traveler, most of my miles are in states that are firearm friendly. Yes, I had an incident waaay out in the Desert boondocking. Guy was scoping out campsite, I went out, he saw my Firearm slightly concealed and quickly left. I have moved a bit to less lethal discouragement, mostly in an urban setting, Pepper Spray. Your content is invaluable to everyone, not just Nomads. Truly what you two do is a service that keeps everyone safe, even the bad guys. I have training on my handgun but your reminders keep us from being lax about the dangers and local laws. Stay safe and thank you for sticking with a dangerous, thankless career. Many don't have the courage to give thanks. I do, we need you out there 🙏

Well done. I have 18+ years in California as an LEO. I retire in 7 years and will hit the road full time. With all the RV families with channels, it's good to see another officer posting videos AND discussing firearm safety. The right holster is key to carrying safely.

I am not in law enforcement but I am a NRA Certified Instructor and this information is spot on! I am a 63 yr old female and my firearm of choice to carry is a 380 with one in the chamber. Thank you for putting this video out...and I would definitely like to see more of its kind!

I enjoyed the video. Thank you for your service. I was a small town policeman a long time ago. I had a police commissioner that didn't think it was necessary for me to be armed.. Fortunately I prevailed, and I needed that firearm several times. Each time I was thankful that I could go home to my family at the end of my shift. I was fortunate that I did not have to end anyone's life. Stay safe!

@@mikesleigher932 as a physician , who practiced gastroenterology for 38 years, I had many law enforcement patients. Saved plenty of lives , restored their health. Most were decent, but my experience was that most wouldn’t hesitate to ask for a favor , but rarely returned it when one was requested. That’s just the way it was , and is.

Don't even go to those places! Like NY. Never go into Mexico. Never go to Canada without prior permission. In New York State you must have a New York State pistol permit. Possession of an unlicensed handgun is a mandatory 1 year sentence felony!

Handguns may be a serious problem in many areas. NJ and NY are basically no go zones. You can only stop for gas while driving through NJ. You cannot stay overnight. In New York State. You must have a NY State pistol permit and the pistol must be registered in New York. It's a mandatory 1 year sentence Felony!! Long guns make more sense such as pump shotguns and lever action rifles. Semiautomatic Rifles and some shotguns are Forbidden in many States and cities

I learned to shoot ~ age 5 (my dad had his arms wrapped around me steadying the gun) with a Ruger Single Six chambered for .22LR. After a couple weeks, my dad let me ‘solo’ while watching until he felt I had become proficient enough to let me carry the revolver holstered. Then when we started exploring the countryside - ruins of old homes from late 1800-early 1900s- I walked point carrying my holstered .22 and he walked middle to rear with his .357 Mag - also Ruger Single Sixes. Oh, and he ingrained the gun safety rules into me as I learned and never had a misfire. That was 60+ years ago and I still have yet to have a misfire or “accidental” fire. I did have a dud (light primer strike) with a .45 ACP about 15 years ago and had to disassemble the gun in order to tap the dud bullet from the barrel. That was the first and only occurrence of any bad round performance in my lifetime. I did shoot on my Army ROTC high school rifle team and later on my collegiate rifle team; both rifle teams were with .22LR rifles and ammo - not the air rifles of today. And, when the Army is involved with teaching you to shoot - you learn to shoot . . . SAFELY! I used to depend on carrying autopistols chambered in .45 auto but dropped to 9mm due to weight issues. I now have reached the age when .38 SPCL +p suffices and carries my .357 Mag revolver with the .38s with speed loaders ready with .357 if it appears .38 won’t suffice - not likely in the real world. I do carry a Shockwave legal short barrel pump shotgun as my truck gun and a spare .45 autopistol in the truck as well. Again, all legal in my state and I still renew my state carry license even though it’s not necessary. I used to depend on it when we drove to our oldest son’s house several states over but now all the intervening states and HIS HOME STATE has passed Constitutional Carry making it a moot point.

No second skin tight yoga pants and spandex shirt to show your little bulge and how big your biceps are for your 4'10" frame. Yes there really is or was some "tactical windbag" on KZfaq who made sure his rear end showed his flexing butt muscles and lots of footage with arms showing his big Czechoslovakian arm bulges. It was so laughable I had to share my thoughts without a sugar coating. Haven't seen the little guy for several years.

A Retired LEO here from the free state of Alabama and also a FLETC trained firearms instructor. Every thing you said was spot on. Thank you for your service and for the video. I hope people watch and listen. Each person is responsible for their own firearm, but in today’s society, unfortunately , everyone is responsible for their own safety. I know you have 50 more tips you can give. The only thing I would add here is gross motor skills vs fine motor skills. In a reload, pull the slide by hand to release it. Don’t get in the habit of using the slide release on the side of the weapon. Without saying it, you demonstrated it perfectly. 13 months will be gone before you know it. Stay safe.

Thanks for your service. I did 34 years in law enforcement and retired in 2020. We just bought a 2020 Bay Star 3609. Long-time RVers (30+ years) and you have a great YT channel. My everyday gun is a Glock 43X 9mm and I need to get my wife trained on a .380 Glock 42 that I have been having for years.

2A-Keep up the good work, it is very appreciated, my wife doesn’t listen to me about firearms but she watched this video and asked if she can go to a beginner course. She doesn’t want to carry but wants to be more aware of my training to feel more comfortable as well as know appropriate actions to avoid, evade, respond to assist not hinder me…..4 grandchildren in 2 years has made us more aware and cautious.

Just have her think of it as anything else you own. If you go down, she would need to know how to move and set up the rig. If you had a car with a manual transmission, she would need to be comfortable using it to get you to the hospital. A firearm is no different. Training = confidence.

My uncle gave my mom and my aunt a pistol to carry with them in their RV while they traveled around. Both of them are in their 60’s and never gave a second thought whether they were following or breaking any laws

@@nf4833 Gun laws are a veritable minefield - - especially when crossing state lines. New Jersey put a young woman that had young children in prison because she strayed from PA (where she was legal) to NJ on the Interstate. The NJ State Police stopped her for DWB (…driving while black) and she conscientiously informed them that she was armed (…like she was trained to do in a stop). She got years in prison - - the courts gave her no leeway. The lesson is that you can get into more trouble for trying to use your 2nd Amendment rights than not having the protection of a firearm. …Know the local laws.

I am fairly certain that NJ SP has imminently more important and pressing things to do than stop every minority just because they are a minority or because they feel like it. Some people just can't admit when they made a driving error, while others are all to quick to claim victimhood

If I could add one thing to your great gun safety presentation. If you are carrying a weapon and approached by a police officer your first action should be to : A. Keep your hands away from your body , in plain sight while remaining still and B. Inform the officer " Officer I am legally carrying a loaded weapon" and then wait for their instruction before moving. This will significantly reduce the stress level for all involved.

Amen! From my training. . .Say those exact words! And never say "gun" to a police officer. "loaded weapon" or "loaded sidearm" will do. The word "gun" can get you killed.

I fail to understand why KZfaq would censor 2A information from credentialed content providers! Your info brings awareness and insight to the 2A community. Perhaps if other 2A content creators ratcheted the hyperbole, more value could be delivered to the masses.

Your generation didn't grow up with guns for the most part. I think mine was the last that largely did. We were trained by age 8 at the latest. I still shake my head when I meet people your age and younger who aren't trained on the use of firearms. Glad you are out there spreading the word.

There are plenty of people in every generation that 'grow up' with guns. The latest generation, from 8 or 9 years old and into the teens, there are plenty of kids that hunt, and competition shoot, etc. When I was growing up, we could bring our shotguns or .22 to school, and store in our locker, in a case and unloaded, then after school hunt in local tracts. It was a common thing then. In current times, no way.

Something I learned from extensive traveling in the U.S. is people are good and you can trust them. That revelation was a weight off my soul. There are forces that for various reasons want you to think otherwise. Your spidey sense will tell you to avoid somebody very rarely, but you won't have to shoot them... That said, at home I have guns of all descriptions, because I enjoy them.

Just found your channel. GREAT video! My wife and I aren't full-time RVers, we just use the motorhome for fun-jaunts and weekends away (when fuel prices aren't prohibitive!.😒) Happily, we're usually in New Hampshire (our home state), Vermont or Maine. While New Hampshire no longer "requires" a permit for concealed carry, we both maintain the permits (they're cheap). Vermont never required a permit, and New Hampshire and Maine have full reciprocity (we each treat each other's state permits as our own "resident" permits). The laws of the states are more of a problem than getting the training! We plan and practice for defending our home. We plan and practice for defending ourselves on the streets. So, we plan and practice for defending ourselves in our RV. Getting professional training is just one step shy of mandatory. Most of us old-timers (I'm 68, my wife's 60) have received formal training of various kinds, and, because of the circles we travel in, we're constantly picking each other's brains; learning and teaching each other. It's just how we grew up, and it's how we live! BUT!!!!! (there's that horrible word!) If you're getting a LOT of training, but only fire the gun during that "official" training, you're almost dooming yourself to failure! I don't even carry a gun until I've put more than 500 rounds through reliably, and we're constantly touching up our familiarity with dry-training in the house, and live-fire at the range! Retired LEO, you are spot on. I don’t carry often, but I still carry occasionally depending upon where I am going. I carry the same firearm as you do. Very reliable easy to shoot. I also go to a certified gun range 2X’s a tear and qualify with a range master. I’m not required to it just keeps me fresh.

You being a cop allows you to get away with many things that a civilian could never do. You mentioned going into a rest stop armed, that is forbidden in many states, even gun friendly ones. If I feel the need to be armed, unless there's a metal detector at the door, I am carrying. Great video.

Essential video for all RV folk. As a Navy senor enlisted I had the privilege of serving on the shipboard security force where we constantly trained with .45 and 12ga. We observed all the rules you point out here. We did get to do lots of live fire training over the side of the ship. Thankfully we never had an intruder on the ship, but we were ready at a moments notice. Now that I am retired and a full time Nomad in my converted van, I always carry a Glock 17. It is not a Colt, but the rounds are much easier to get and lots cheaper. Thankfully I have yet to have to draw down on a stupid, but a couple of times the conversation got heated before the potential perp got the idea that perhaps I may be armed. Great vid. Excellent advise. I don't drive through states that are not 2A aware or friendly. Keep these great videos coming! Thumbs up and a new subscriber.

Great video! I have a CCW from NV and UT. I also have the CCW Safe legal plan. At 73 years old, I've switched to Outside the Waist (right side 3 O'Clock position), Kydex holster with a round chambered. Lots of violent attacks happen at Gas Stations. I prefer to be a survivor.

Excellent video which really shows what responsible concealed carry looks like. The repeated emphasis on showing the weapons were clear was fantastic. Anyone that’s been in a training class has probably gotten used to that, but for folks that have not it shows how safety must ALWAYS paramount. Especially like that you mentioned it is a perishable skill.

excellent video, as a gun carrier for 35 years I agree with 99% of your instructions and comments. The exception is your view point on the pocket carry, I carry in various spots, depending on different situations. I was a contractor for many years and I could not take the chance of my shirt riding up and a customer seeing it while I was reaching for something. I have carried a 380 in my pocket, and a 9mm or 45 on my ankle with no issues. and I never knew which position I might find my self throughout the day. The only person that noticed my 9mm on my ankle was a police officer while I was on my knees pointing something out to him. For the 380 I can casually have my hand on the 380 while talking to people and they have no ideal that I am ready to draw. But with that said, NEVER EVER put anything else in that pocket. I know many don't like ankle carry, but it is the very easy to draw while seated in a restaurant or driving with out drawing attention to yourself. Other times depending on my dress attire I carryon my waist. Just my view point that might help someone. Again great video, keep up the great work on gun safety and thank you for your service as an police officer.

Thanks for the video and helping educate RV'ers in self protection. One thing I differ with/ you on, I strongly advocate for when carrying appendix to always LOOK your pistol into the holster when re-holstering. Things like your shirt, jacket drawstring, etc. can easily get into the holster opening and can cause an accident. Statistics show that the majority of negligent discharges occur during re-holstering. When instructing new shooters, a slow, reluctant re-holstering is a key safety aspect to ingrain into them. After you have determined it is a safe environment and are ready to re-holster, slowly and deliberately look your gun into the holster.

Besides I own a 1949 Piper PA-Vagabond with a updated diesel; turbine engine that flies on electric once airborne. It serves as an air You are an example cowboys in the dangerous country in the world. I spent 32 years in the US Army, left as a Colonel O-6 and credited with `144 kills, 6 of them in unarmed combat. Knew a guy in Oregon who killed an escaped convicted murderer and spent the next 17 years in and put of court. in the process losing everything he had. Nice knowing no one is going to shoot you while driving or shopping, nor even in a war. Likely you are breaking many ;as as you go state to state.

Good stuff brother. When I retired I did background checks for CCW applicants and what they dont realize is carrying concealed is a pain in the butt. Its a pain to make sure your weapon is covered and doesnt print through your clothing. Ive had family members of previous applicants come through and asked how long their family member 'carried'. Usually it was a couple of months before the coolness factor wore off and they realized it was a pain. I carried on and off duty for 30 years and felt naked without it. Good points on the proper pocket or belt holster. Maybe you cant advertise but I like We the People holster out of Salt Lake. Veteran owned and operated.

Excellent video you guys! I have a fellow veteran friend of mine who taught classes (Safety and operation), who I'll ask to train me before I go full-time RVing. Somehow when I went through Navy Boot Camp many years ago, they ran out of funding, my company and several others did not get the chance to go through any sort of training like that. I also think in addition to having some sort of self defense 'tools' ;) ;) whatever they may be, it's just as important to keep your 'head on a swivel' and know your surroundings at all times. There are times when my dog Maggie drives me crazy because she's so loud and protective, but there have been times when I've also been very thankful of how protective she is! I sleep so soundly now that I have her. My beautiful, sweet English Setter before her, literally loved everybody and was not protective at all lol. Rest in peace, Peyton. Please keep the self defense 'tools' ;) ;) do's and don'ts coming!

I joined Armed Women of America 3 years ago and have learned a lot. Never stop training or learning. I just subscribed to your channel.

If you ever find yourself in a firefight, count your rounds as you expend them. Change your magazine when you have shot the number of rounds in that mag. At that time, if you started with a full mag and one in the chamber, you will still have one in the chamber and will not need to rack the slide. That split second can save a life.

He advised everyone to get a shotgun "...because you can't miss with it..."🤔 Among other things. He's trying to help, but has followed up with a couple more videos, based on things he's been corrected on in comments, I'm pretty sure.

Good, solid training. Thank you. Did a 51/2 month RV trip across America (including the Alcan Hwy to Alaska) last summer and didn’t bring a firearm. Felt naked but we went through too many places where firearms are not allowed

Very good information. As an old timer (military police) I fell in love with the revolver. I’ve since’moved on’ but I believe it’s worth mentioning that a good first time weapon for a newbie could be the revolver. (It renders moot the whole’should I have one chambered or not’ discussion.)

To those that might poo-poo carrying an extra magazine, they should be aware that the vast majority of malfunctions can be resolved by either cycling the live round out or a magazine change.

FBI stats have shown that trained officers will dump their entire first magazine without realizing it. Having a second or third mag is common sense.

What a sad story and I feel for the wife with the loss of her husband. So many retired LEOs as I. I don’t know if this has been stressed enough in the comments since there are so many to read through. Please, I’ve found over the years that so many wives are even of LEOs are afraid or unfamiliar with firearms, make sure that if one is carried (my philosophy maybe even more then one) that both should be trained in the use.

The VP70 , Heckler & Koch , combined a number of design features that were innovative, or at least very unusual for its time: It was the first polymer-framed handgun, striker fired, predating the Glock 17 by 12 years. Everything else after that, including Glock was copy of the VP 70 . Your point of safety and other instruction are well taken…. Very well done 👍

I am 22 years in the British army and I protect my home like a fort in the U.K. guns rifles are not aloud but a good thick hard wood walking stick does the job that’s 2 1/2 inches thick so it works Good advice to people and RV ers stay safe and have fun

If that's what you can carry, it may be a good idea to take a martial arts class that includes weapons. Filipino MA or similar so that you can engage with machete wielding ruffians.

Thank you. I have always refused to carry on in the chamber. I practice and feel proficient with my firearm. I have an appropriate holster. But, I try to listen to God. You are the 2nd unprevoked person to tell me to always carry one in the chamber TODAY. I was talking to a gentleman at the campground this morning who made it a point to say the same thing. I feel that is a sign from God. I will listen from now on. Happy Independence Day, friends!!!

If you want to pocket carry, (which is a very common way to carry micro weapons) there’s way better options for holsters. You want a holster that has pocket hooks. That way you can draw your weapon appropriately and effectively and the hooks will cause the holster to stay in your pocket or it will cause the holster to separate from the weapon and go across the room when you draw. Which could be a good way to draw attention to another area besides where you are. These holsters are also made of kydex and many companies made them. The one I recommend is from vedder holsters. I’ve never had an issue with it.

Thank you so much for this video!! As relatively new gun owners who took the time to get properly educated and trained through the NRA, we love everything you covered here. We have friends and family that have guns but do not train with them, therefore, we are greatly concerned about their safety and the safety of others. In fact, I have two friends who were given guns that they've never shot, therefore, those firearms would be nothing but door stops if they were ever needed. We are still learning how to travel with our guns, and we have so much to learn. But thank you again for this video!!

The problem with RVs is that anything above .25 acp will go right through your walls. There is no safe zone unless you build one. That in turn forces you out of you RV to defend yourself. RVs suck for self defense.

You do not need a firearm to defend yourself; you need training. Please, do not feel forced to go outside of your home to defend yourself. There's only one door (usually,) and a confined space that you know well; it is to your advantage. Set your RV up in anticipation of intruders. Know what you can use for defense, where it is, and what things you need to grab and use in what order.

We were at the rest stop where those folks were attached just a week after it happened. We both have concealed carry and know how to use out firearms. Thanks again.

Great information. I'd only add that for pocket carry, use a Kydex holster like the ones made by Alabama Holster. The soft sided ones can let debris or other objects in which could lead to an unintentional discharge. Also, the way their Kydex holster is made, you will get a clean draw every time, no holster attached. It's pretty iffy with the softies. Thanks.

Keep teaching these type of subjects. Maybe teach to take more time to re-holster safely in a stressful situation. Proper grip and draw techniques. Some dry-fire drills. Ammo selection and changing point of impact due to ammo selection. Range etiquette. Risks of collateral damage in campgrounds, parks, rest areas, and fuel stations. Thanks for helping.
