@Ryan_DeWitt
@Ryan_DeWitt 3 жыл бұрын
He doesn't have as many subs as he should simply because people like to live in fantasy land and want someone telling them that their overeating isn't the reason why they are fat and there is some magical hormonal or method of eating fix. Sort of like when you hear a fat person say "I've tried everything to lose weight." Yea, except putting the fork down.

“What type of tissue BURNS a lot of calories - muscle tissue”. This statement is correct and you misunderstood what he meant. His argument is that muscle burns/requires a lot of calories to be sustained, thus, if you’re starving, your body will shed muscle tissue to reduce your caloric requirements. He didn’t say muscle is a good source of calories, he said muscle burns a lot of calories. I am NOT saying his overall arguments are correct - I agree with everything you said. But, thought it only fair to point this out, knowing you are a man of intellectual honesty. Keep up the great content 🤘

As always, really appreciate your passion for dispelling nonsense. It’s infuriating because, as you pointed out, people conflate different concepts as if they are the same. It’s amazing to see people on weight loss forums “anyone here not do calories in and out?” No, literally no one! It’s not a choice. Yet, many will respond affirmatively. Or the “calories in and out isn’t true, I didn’t count calories.” They still count! Loved the savings analogy. Your point about personal responsibility is so true. Responsibility is not blame it’s power. Why would people be so willing to want to abandon responsibility? Responsibility means you can fix it.

When i was young people got on shows like "Jerry Springer" the only thing that really changed was some people started to lift them from an idiot to idol status, they are still simply just loud idiots mostly. Come to think of it Doctor Phil is literally the Springer format. It's the age of information, where we have more information than we have time to break complicated things down and there for generally accept the popular 'wrong' information, doesn't help that how the "new" media is monetized so that this kind of behaviour is generally promoted and rewarded thus we get flooded with this kind of wrong information.

@BioLayne I think people who are actually eating in a deficit and see the scale go up and freak out after a week think they're getting fatter even if they look "fatter" when its just water retention. I bet a lot of those peoples sodium to potassium ratio is wayyyyy off as well. I'd be interested in you talking about calcium channels and sodium/potassium ratios in association with water retention, muscle contractions and processes like this. Love the super science-y vids!!

Dr. Fung also makes claims that our bodies simply adjust when we restrict calories. He said if we eat 500 fewer calories, we'll just adjust to it and weightloss won't necessarily occur. Thanks for calling out these "influencers" Layne!

That’s because neat goes down I starved myself by eating 800-600 cal and I never stopped losing weight from my morbidly obese weight the only thing that comes with you eating this low amount is that you feel the urge to binge. If the claims of Jonathan were true the human race would have been extinct long ago imagine you just turn in to a ball of fat because your body wanted to save ur fat stores and wanted you to be a horrible hunter by removing ur only tools of finding food in the wild.
@helloromie
@helloromie 3 жыл бұрын
Jaber al-fares you said your never stopped losing weight from just eating 600-800? I think I read that right. I'm eating 1371 per day round about, and want to just eat 1000. I feel like nothing is happening. I might do OMAD.
@TheCramer1991
@TheCramer1991 3 жыл бұрын
helloromie just give it time take ur daily weight see the weekly average. It may be 1-2 pounds a week or less since ur eating 1379 ur burn may be around ur bmr and ur neat is nonexistent. Weight loss takes a long time. If you don’t want ur neat to go down Plummet I would say do 3-4 day of eating around maintaince calories and 2-3 in a calorie deficit around 500 cal no cheat meals that way you won’t crack and binge and take it slow.
@helloromie
@helloromie 3 жыл бұрын
Jaber al-fares Thank you. Summertime figured out my macros and calories so that I'm in a deficit. I'm not fit, so 1371 may seem high, but it's low in comparison to my fat! What do you mean you're neat is non existent. My no exercise MR? Thank you🤗
@TheCramer1991
@TheCramer1991 3 жыл бұрын
helloromie neat is none exercise thermogenesis and normally some people when they eat more food then what their body burns at rest they just fidget or move more without realizing and sometimes influenced to move or clean or do a chore. it’s something you can’t control and it’s different from one person to another. That’s why you see these people who can eat a lot and not put on any weight because their body makes them do lot of unnecessary stuff they are not aware of and that adds up in a day of time.

Regarding his discussion of burning muscle for energy at about 6:00. Anyone who doubts the truth of what he’s saying should spend a couple months at the US Army’s Ranger School. I went in at 180 lbs, in shape, with relatively low body fat. I got down below 148-ish. After graduation I was 153, but that’s like four or five days after getting out of the field and drastically reducing my energy expenditure and increasing calories. I’m 6’3 so anything below 150 lbs is pretty emaciated. There’s nothing quite like being starving. You notice weird things like your B.O. starts to smell like urea or ammonia or something and small wounds on your hands or face take weeks to heal instead of days. Upper body muscle definition disappeared and your face looks hollow. It was bizarre. Of course, just like Dr. Layne is saying, the little fat I had disappeared first. Eventually the muscle started to go too. I think we ate about 2500 calories a day in the field (2 MREs) but man, we burned A LOT. Walking up and down mountains all day carrying 80-100 lbs. Doing missions and stuff. The effects on the body were wild.

@7:04 The average caloric intake in the Minnesota Experiment was ~1600 kcals, not 800. Should never be used for any arguments of reducing the obese as most subjects were close to IBW PRIOR to starting the study. ( was to simulate and scientifically observe what would happen to general population in war torn Europe during WWII ) Ironically, about HALF of the weight loss was at the expense of LEAN MASS. [The Biology of Human Starvation Vols 1 & 2] Their calorie deficit from food alone was on average ~2000kcal/day - but what most never touch on is they were also required to exert approx 3000kcal of physical activity daily. (total deficit approx 5000kcal/day initially)

Hey can you find some research on difference in 300 calorie's of highly processed food like Oreos vs 300 calories of a whole food like cabbage? They have the same amount of energy but inside our bodies we don't know how it works completely. We don't know how much of it butt flora eats so we can't even measure it from poop. I highly doubt eating lightly steamed cabbage and eating Oreos will result in the same result when it comes to absorption even excluding any thermic effect of macro nutrients. I even remember a study that shows the difference between whole peanuts and peanut butter but I can't remember where.

Greenfield’s certainly full of it, but at 6:00 I think you misread what he wrote. He’s not saying muscle is a great source of energy, he’s saying it’s a big consumer of energy. To use the financial analogy, if your income dropped you’d probably want to reduce any avoidable expenses.

Okay so Layne, NOT saying I agree with him at all, but I think you missed the point he was making in his article. Yes, obviously it’s bullshit, I just thought you didn’t really address his point

Some of the things people like Ben talk about are interesting and need further investigation, but for the rest...I'm not sure if they actually believe what they say or if they just lie or twist things to make even more money and confuse even more people. Obviously it keeps many people, because now they hold the "holy grail" of health, performance and fat loss that they can't find anywhere else, and obviously the supplements are 100x better (and more expensive) than anything else on the market. I fell for it too, but when your health is really bad you eventually have to drop the bullshit and can only spend money, time and energy doing what actually works. I personally think that those people can do whatever they think, but I'd love to have more mature and educated parents, better education that helps people think more critical and objective and such.

The only people that would believe Jonathan are short sedentary females because they wanna believe that they have a “ slow metabolism “ because they can’t eat the average calories for woman that has been stated online. But in all honestly it’s only because they are short which would make them hold less muscle mass and being female and sedentary on top of that. Being short and a female means ur just not meant to eat a lot of calorie dense foods. If you were meant to be able to eat these foods you wouldn’t be looking for solutions because you would be able to keep ur weight effortlessly.

I've listened to Jonathan Bailor before and in his defense, he doesn't talk about eating more calories to lose weight. He talks about eating more in terms of volume of food. Basically, eating food in the form of low calorie density foods to promote satiety. That's why he says to "eat more to lose weight." He's just trying to help people without focusing on calorie tracking. On the other hand, Ben is nut job.
