▶Synopsis:
Gongsun Li, a beautiful commoner, has been studying Kung Fu from her grandfather alongside two senior apprentices ever since she was a little girl. During her youth, she saves a boy named Ying Zheng, who later becomes the King of Qin. Her world is turned upside down when war breaks out amongst the warring states and her grandfather is killed by the Qin army. As a result, Gongsun Li is forced to flee her hometown. Her longtime senior, Jing Kie, is then poisoned for attempting to protect her. In order to obtain the cure for Jing Ke, Gongsun Li chooses to marry the king, Ying Zheng, who is responsible for invading her nation and murdering her grandfather. Soon after, Gongsun Li discovers that she is pregnant with Jing Kie’s child. When Ying Zheng’s discovers Gongsun Li’s pregnancy, he comes to her aid by claiming that he is the father of the child, which deeply moves Gongsun Li. In order to ensure the safety of Gongsun Li and her child, Han Shen, Gongsun Li’s other senior, chooses to become an imperial bodyguard in the palace. Faced with the dangers and perils of life in the palace, Gongsun Li develops into a strong woman and eventually earns people’s respect through her wisdom and kindness.

I can't believe Im actually crying for the tyrant King. I mean, I don't like how he handles his anger management issues but I get his childhood emotional trauma and the fact that he's a King of a nation. But his love is real, just dont know how to handle it well as he's been back stabbed and used way too many times. He has so many insecurities and doubt. He only wanted to be loved yet no one really guided him well. He's all on his own while ruling a country.

Ying Zheng united the 7 fighting states into one country and ruled it as 1 country with 1 policy and administration system, 1 language, 1 written script and 1 monetary system. He had to subdue 7 royal kingdom to become the emperor.

@@preciousmadziya1297 Emperor Qin in history never conferred the empress title to any of his concubines. He didn't have an empress. I don't know if Li Er was a person in history but in this drama she didn't want to be in charge of the harem and all the backstabbing that goes on. That is an empress's duty.

This episodes shows, that to Zheng, his time with Li'er was the happiest as a child. hence why he treasured ti so, and wanted to find her since childhood. to keep that happy and trusting feeling around always.

If somebody made a drama about the love life of Stalin or Mao people would go "crazy". People get offended by China claiming Hong Kong and Taiwan belongs to them. The king of Qin killed thousands of people to unify China. If he wasn't a tyrant, Stalin and Mao wasn't despots either, they did it for the greater good...

I think you need to read up on the actual facts behind this drama. Don't know how the producers can twist history like this. Then Stalin and Mao weren't despots either, they did it for the greater good... It's like the drama "Scarlet heart" where the main person loves a tyrant who boils people alive.

Responsibility I think. Practically Madam Li was older than the king. She had the responsibility to protect him, to guide him, to sacrifice for him if needed to. Thus why, the ending described so. She was at the end road, only had that choice to guide him, to give him an unforgettable lesson to appreciate life.

As far as I know, it is a true story. You should watch Legend of Hao Lan. It’s a journey story of the Emperor parents… History says Qin dynasty is the first Dynasty in China, united 6 states & built China great wall…

@1155 the trouble with this woman is she thinks she can resolve the troubled world... well this guy is beyond help! he trusts no one n to even her and will end up killing everyone beside him. im sure even his own kids if he gets any!! I just found out this is a true historical drama based on true events.. so I have to read up on it now as I love history. but dont know that much on china but learning.

I'm sorry but the king can't justify ruthlessly killing all those innocent people just because he was bullied by a few. He knew what he was doing was wrong, that's why he wanted it kept from Li Er. The fact that she still supports him must have her grandfather rolling in his grave.

Por mucho q me desagradan los dramas donde el maltrato a la mujer y esta termina enamorándose de su agresor es el tema principal, está historia da un porque el rey es como es y la razón clara de su cruel proceder y la verdad me cuesta odiarlo aunque en más de un episodio hay razones de sobra para aborrecerlo. Li'er por otro lado es un personaje que ama uno de inicio a fin porque no es la damisela en problemas inútil incapaz de hacer algo, al contrario, es fuerte y fiera defensora de los que ama pero su amor/dependencia (hasta cierto punto) hacia el rey la convierte en víctima y verdugo de su propio destino. El final, aunque lo detesto es el único lógico y coherente. Después de todo era el único final que tanto el rey como su concubina podían tener. Al final, y aunque me duela reconocerlo, esa relación estaba marcada por la tragedia desde un inicio y ninguno de los protagonistas estaba destinado a tener un final felíz.

To be honest, i watch this drama because of Reba. Reba is the only one Chinses filming artist in China who leads me watch C-drama. I never miss one of Reba drama. However, this is the only drama that make me so painful and headache due to the killing. Too much killing for personal benefit, power, fame!!!! Most of the great general, good people's die for nothing!!!!! The King childhood is a trauma!!!!! I personally love Jing ke. He hates Qin cos they killed his master. He is dumb but he really did love. Unlike the king that would put his beloved woman in prison, Jing ke would punish himself instead. I hate the king. No matter how much bad happened to you it is not an excuse to be bad. If I was the writer he would have died a painful death at the end
