I know this vid is a bit older... but lots of great info! I totally agree on the Arcteryx Atom jacket. In either LT or AR/Heavy it's the best fitting and all-around jacket I've had. Great fit and durability and surprisingly warm. Be sure and ask the rep f/Patagonia if they're still using Petroleum byproducts to create all their jackets ;)

Man, that was a lot of jackets. There are some nostalgic jacket names too. They used to make a nano-air light hybrid jacket, that I wore under my OR Deviator (back when it was a Polartec Alpha Direct jacket if memory served). It's a surprise the Arc'teryx Proton FL/LT didn't make the cut, it doesn't fit as well as the Atom LT, but a lot more breathable and durable for me. BD also made a jacket very similar to the nano-air light hybrid, the First Light hybrid, it is just a lot warmer. Great video bringing all of this to our attention, Shawn.

Hello! Thanks for the great note! We have the Proton LT as well and love it. However it is my wife's and she did not want to be in the video LOL. I have heard good things about the BD First Light Hybrid - I will have to check it out. Thanks and take care!

I got a Nano-Air Light Hybrid by the moment It was available in Europe's site and I had the chance to use it in some high intensity activities like touring or hiking and it's a true revolutionary product. I mean this is GOAT! I can't believe how efficient this piece is! Recommended!

I agree, the Nano-Air Light Hybrid is great for just about any activity. I have used it on MTB rides, hikes,and layering. Just wish it had an interior or chest pocket. I bought it the day it was available because of your review and so glad I did. I have so many jackets because of this damn channel 😂

Which one is more breathable Outdoor Vitals Vario or Mountain Hardwear Kor Airshell Warm? Thanks
@ivant432
@ivant432 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comparisons Sean. I recently purchased the Mountain Hardwear Kor Airshell Warm after watching one of your videos. While I love that "exposed insulation" is very comfortable and makes the jacket feel very lightweight, I can't get the right fit with this jacket. Large is very baggy in the torso but arms and length is great. The arm holes on the Medium are too tight for my arm pits. Which other jacket would you recommend? The Marmot Alt HB sounds similar, but I've read people experiencing pilling after light use with that jacket. Have you experienced the same?
@Engearment
@Engearment Жыл бұрын
Hello! I hear you, Mountain Hardwear is a tuff fit for me as well. The Marmot Alt HB is a great jacket. I have not had pilling after 2 months of use. The other one that I would highly recommend, is the KUHL The One. It has the exposed insulation, and fits me VERY well. Plus, it looks cool.

Even the jackets with the higher pockets are usually not that pack-friendly because the pockets aren't really high enough.

Hi Sean big fan of your review especially product from Patagonia. At the 13:30 mark in this video you mentioned a review for a new nano air with dual chest pockets would be out in a few weeks but i cant seem to locate it. Any update? I was going to pick up the Nano Air Hybrid but holding out for the new Nano Air . Thank you and jeep up the good work.

Thanks for this very informative video, really amazing work. I would like to know, what would be your pick between the Nano Air Light Hybrid and the Atom LT for hiking, biking to work with a backpack and casual by 7°C/45°F ? Did you ever tester the Proton FL ? Seems comparable in terms of breathability to the Atom LT. Thank you and please keep reviewing these kind of products 🙃

Thank you for the nice note! I live in the Nano Air Lght Hybrid for active use. For casual use that might become active, I go with the Atom LT as it looks better IMHO. I have not used the Proton FL yet, but we have a writer that reviewed it and swears by it. I appreciate the heck out of the nice comment and I find it inspiring to continue ore of these kind of comparison reviews!

The synthetic insulations in most of the these jackets degrades pretty quickly with use. The exception is Polartec Alpha and similar insulations, such as in the Kuhl The One. The tradeoff is that Polartec Alpha style insulations are not as weight-efficient. Have you explained your business model in any of your videos?
@Engearment
@Engearment Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your input! 🙌 Always a trade off - down vs synthetic. Or whatever material to another material. Agreed that the exposed fleece like insulation on the KUHL and others would probably be more resistant to compression over years of use. But I am still using the Nano air in this video. It’s many years old. Can you provide more data on the rate of degradation of the insulations? I know people on groups like BPL go into the weeds with very detailed insights in the materials. I simply use them and report back from my experience 😆😊. Yes. I have gone over the business several times. In podcasts and other videos.
@sheltermonkey6065
@sheltermonkey6065 Жыл бұрын
@@Engearment The insulation degradation feedback was from the BPL and reddit forums. You have so many jackets, that the average jacket can't see much use, even if you are out every day.
@Engearment
@Engearment Жыл бұрын
@@sheltermonkey6065 I knew it! BPL and forums. I used to live on that site and nerd out on the articles. Great stuff. I am a lifelong member. But the level of neurosis that one can get from living in online research is pretty daunting. So, I go with real-world testing. We do have a lot of jackets. And 50+ testers. So, the jackets get a lot of use. It is not just me here at Engearment.com testing the gear :)

Helpful information as always. Thanks. However, I was expecting, with the “vs” I the title, more of a comparison/evaluation than just an overview of what’s available. I’d love to see you comment about which stand out in some way and the best use cases for a couple that you think fit a particular niche better than most.

Were you saying that the Marmot Alt HB is simply constructed like the OV Ventus and Vario, or were you also saying the Marmot performs just like and just as well as the OV jackets?
@Engearment
@Engearment Жыл бұрын
Hey! Good question. The Marmot is light weight like the Vario. But it has somewhat exposed insulation, much like the Kuhl The One and the Mountain Hardwear Kor insulated jacket. So, to answer your question, the Marmot breathes very well and has simular properties to the OV Vario and is more lightweight than some of the other jackets in this review. Hope that helps!

@@Engearment the fleece lined pockets are important in my opinion. You’re trading off the bulk to be light weight plus for the amount of money we’re paying, the hands and head are where most of the heat escapes from. Those were the reasons our moms had us bundled when we were kids
