I am an Engineer who likes to rebuild engines as a hobby. Before I got a degree I was reconditioning cylinder heads in and engineering workshop.
I wish I had a resource like KZfaq when I was building my first engine 25 years ago!
Hope this either encourages you to give it a go, or convinces you to get help from someone experienced to guide you through your first engine build.
There are many ways to skin a cat, but after building half a dozen Mitsubishi engines I thought I'd share some techniques and video of how I do it.
Enjoy!

Great video! This is really handy as there's nothing like this for the L300s 4g64 out there. Its clear you are very knowledgeable and take care in what you do. Thankyou for taking the time to make this video One tip/trick I'll add for anyone watching is the front middle sump bolt is about 2mm shorter than the others. Its very easy to miss and will make contact with the timing belt if it isn't placed in the right hole

Yes that shorter bolt is a killer thanks! I have stripped it before and had to re-tap with a 1/4" imperial thread.

Hey so I had the oil pickup breakoff my 4wd 4g64 engine but I found a 2wd engine out of a mighty max here in the states. How did that 2wd pan fit against the cross member/trans cooler lines? Was the drain plug accessible?

Hi @brodberry1428, in the L300 92 model there were no issues with either one, I even think the sump plug was in similar location. What I called the 2WD engine, I have recently discovered is called a "6-bolt" 4G64 (1991), versus the one in my 4WD that is a 7-bolt (1993). The 6-bolt pan is shallower that the 7 bolt, so if anything you have a little bit more room. No interference that I can remember.

I’m having a hard time sourcing parts for my 4G64 in a 1992 mighty max, any ideas who I can find parts from for an engine refresh? Thanks so much for the great video!

Sorry don't know in the US, but I use Amayama for hard to source Mitsubishi parts. Not sure about engine internals, it would probably be better to find someone local - maybe join a forum or Facebook group and ask?

I recently found some things on Australian websites that they say work, performance cams for na or turbo, stronger internals and valve train things

on the 2.6L G54B, does the mikuni carb need to come out before the fuel pump can come out ? ....i have 1" clearance between the two, wiggle, wiggle, fuel pump bumps against the carb, does not clear the engine block bolts...what am i missing ?

Hey, love your work! Just want to know if you replaced your lifters with new ones and if so did you need to prime them first?
@EngPlayground
@EngPlayground 8 ай бұрын
Yes, per the engine rebuld manual I primed them with diesel. Used a paper clip to push the internal plunger down, dunk them in diesel and pump plunger until no more air bubbles and lifter is firm, x8 times = job done
