Manchester Airport has a great plane spotting location that over looks the start of RWY 23L. It gives great vantage points as they taxi over RWY 23R and as they spool up to take off. The noise is mightily impressive so remember to TURN UP THE VOLUME!
This video was filmed on Friday 15th January between 08:00 and 10:30

The only thing lacking there is the sound of an afterburner igniting... apart from that, it is quite similar to the sound of a military jet.

Fun fact... that spoolup has a similar sound to when the F15 JFS starts engine crank. The initial sound, when engine crank is engaged, and RPM drops for a moment but then overpowers friction and starts spooling the engine, and there is a moment at 07:31 where the JFS really kicks in and the fuel is injected...

And he should be. As a military pilot, me and my squardon always salute any spotters, because they take the friggin effot to be there and capture the takeoffs, which are arguably the best part of any flight.

Fantastic! Interesting to see how much of the runway the 737 pilots needed when compared with the much bigger and, presumably much more powerful, Singapore A350 at the end! Loved the way the Etihad 787 Captain waved at you whilst the 1st Officer throttled up the power...well I hope he did LOL! Do you think they view your videos...would be ace if they did eh? Great position as always...new one? Unless you've been out with the tree sheers?

yeah, its always nice when we get a wave, and yes we've had comments from pilots and crew saying they were on that aircraft. Its a spot we've been to for many years now, but someone has very kindly cut the trees down so we dont get any in the way now. As always Mark, thanks for watching

Thanks for another great film you lucky thing. I’m crazy about planes now how did that happen poor Ryanair always gets the moans Ill comment after my June flight to Brindisi. Keep the films coming. A little piece of rubbish from my past Ive been on a tiny plane going over The Costa Rican jungle. Was even weighed before I got. In this single engine thing My thoughts were oh if it goes down il land on top of the trees in jungle.haha see why I need therapy do you really want a nutcase like me following your blogs

well all the large GE engines designed after the GE90 all have the same philosophy so they sound very similar

if you park near the airport inn, walk up the path that goes along side the perimeter fence on that side of the main road, there's a few mounds you can walk up and watch them

Sounds so nice. But as a military pilot... one thing is really missing for me... when you spool up to 100% (military)... and then that little push to the notch (AB)... the rumble... is missing. I sincerely hope that there will be another generation of supersonic airliners where pilots can make that extra bit of push...
