Groundbreaking, Inspirational and Disruptive.
After attending a lifestyle medicine conference, Dr. Michelle McMacken changed her philosophy about patient care overnight. Now, she routinely prescribes plants over pills in her practice and, through compassionate consultations, opens wide the door to change.
At Bellevue Hospital in New York City, McMacken is the lead physician on a plant-based pilot program designed to provide people with education and support. During the launch in 2019, overwhelming interest forced McMacken to set up a “Broccoli Hotline” to field calls from hundreds of New Yorkers who wanted to participate.
Clearly, Dr. McMacken has the Heart of a Hero.
Not only is she saving lives through her work, but she is setting a trusted example for hospitals around the world to follow. How? She starts by asking her patients a single, revolutionary question: “What foods do you like to eat?”
Please enjoy today's conversation.

I loved this interview. So exciting to hear a doctor who is practicing and helping her patients by using plant based foods. Wished she was here in the Austin, TX area. I have not found a plant based doctor.

Jeremy Hunt so glad that at the same time, health food stores had the info available for decades. I started by reading Jack LaLanne, Paul Bragg, and later Ann Wigmore. Sadly many only chose to look at conventional bookstores for diet advice. At any rate my doctors have always supported this life style. I too am glad it is finally becoming mainstream.

This is amazing. I have been obsessed with plant based diet and have been vegan for 10 years. But just now discovering the real story behind it. I was always confused by so much information about carbs.. fats.. soy.. gluten.. but I finally made it home.. I really feel like it. Thank you. I want to learn it and make myself even healthier and want my family and friends and all the rest to learn it. Question is where should I start now?

So glad to hear this wonderful Dr. that is respectful of patients -meeting them where they are in food preferences and even in language. Reminds me of Dr. Ornish who also shows deep respect and love. Well done Doc!

Great to hear about how this plant based interest is moving into main stream medicine. Dr. McMacken is influencing the community in so many ways and helping to change the system. Still it surprises me she didn't know about this till 2013. Great interview.

It makes sense. Educate doctors about true healing principles. Remove incentives for doctors to treat disease instead of cure it. Watch doctors do what they got into medicine to do. Observe obesity and degenerative diseases within the population disappear.

My dog will eat shit off the street. She's an omnivore. And still I can't bring myself to feed her GMO-sourced products. I was tempted to buy the Wild Earth kibble but a number of the ingredients in Wild Earth dog food are genetically modified. The product manufacturer does not deny this, but offers experts who state it's okay to eat GMO foods. The kibbles I buy expressly state their ingredients are nonGMO. Also, Wild Earth has a remarkably high in protein content, not such a good thing. Aside from the dog food plug, this is a terrific interview. Very exciting for the Big Apple.

I too just started the plant based lifestyle. Thank you Dr for changing so many people's lives and sharing your knowledge with us. I am so very grateful for your work. Rip Esselstyn I have now bought 4 of you and your family's books. God bless both of you. I'm still trying to figure it all out though. Something caught my ear that Dr McMacken said. How does she have so many patients that don't speak english? This is just blowing my mind anymore how disrespectful it is to come to another country, refuse to speak their language and expect to recieve the best medical advice and treatment but make the Dr have to work that much harder because you won't learn this countries language. I really want to go to Brazil one day, but I have the mind set that I need to learn Portuguese to show my respect for their country and the people in it. It's the right thing to do. I know this has nothing to do with this video but GOD I'm so tired of my home being treated with such disrespect. I understand this is a melting pot of many cultures, but that shouldn't matter. Learn the freaking language so you can talk to your Dr in "her country" show her and others in this country you are grateful and respectful to be here in our loving, giving, kind, generous, country please. I have many friends from all over this world and every single one of them speak english. From Brazil, to Mexico, China, Haiti, they may get tripped up on a word but they try to show their gratitude for America. I too am on this journey that I want to share with all my family and friends. The more to make this country great the better. Just come with the right frame of mind. America and Americans owe you nothing but we sure do want to see you all succeed in this country as legal immigrants. From a country girl who loves her country and all it has to offer many who land here. Blessings!

@@StephenMarkTurner You are 100% right. I have an excuse for me not being as book smart as I should. I don't know you so you don't get to know my story. But what I didn't do from lack of education was suck off the tax payers, or make an excuse why I can't make my own way in a country that will gladly give to anyone willing to work their butt off. Does it bother me yes, it is one thing that causes shame for me. One day when I have the time I hope that will be changed. By the way...my phone has it's own mind and changes my words on it's own and at times I do not catch it. So if that was all I wrote wrong than I should be celebrating 😃. Hope your life will be a blessing.

For the life of me I will never understand how people can get so triggered by another language being spoken. Or in this case by mentioning that another language might be spoken at times. Triggered to the degree that several paragraphs of bigotery spill out. Please go to Brazil, pick up some sentences and enjoy yourself. Relax, and don't be so hard on yourself and others.
